Hyperpigmentation is the beauty bane of my existence. Every time I get a pimple, it leaves a dark mark in its wake – whether or not I pick at it. Luckily, I don’t get too many blemishes or else Cruella de Ville might want to make a coat out of me. But even one dark mark is a cause for concern and embarrassment – not to mention they can take months to lighten up.
One mark has taken up residence on my jawline for the past six months. It’s been there for so long, sometimes I just forget about it. That is until I see a photo of myself and cringe at how dark and mole-like it appears. So when a bottle of Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution showed up on my doorstep to review, I was very hopeful. Kiehl’s is one of my favorite skincare brands and their products have yet to disappoint, so I was very hopeful about this new innovation.
Kiehl’s promises that Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution is a “is a fast-acting serum that evens skin tone and diminishes dark spots to impart overall radiance and luminosity to the skin.” But does it truly deliver? Here’s my take:
It’s really easy to integrate Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution into your skincare regimen. Simply apply all over your cleansed face – both day and night – under your favorite moisturizer. So it only adds about 30 seconds to your routine.
One of the product’s claims is that it penetrates deep and quickly into the skin. I didn’t really have that experience; the first few days that I applied the serum, it kinda felt like it was sitting on top of my skin, rather than sinking in. But since you apply moisturizer immediately after, it kinda all got in there eventually. After those initial days, I started using much less product (a little goes a very long way) and my experience was much better.
I appreciate that I can use it all over my face instead of just on the dark marks. It doesn’t over-lighten – just targets your pigmentation problems.
With all lightening products, you’re advised to wear an SPF product in conjunction – to keep marks from darkening up again. So I swapped my usual moisturizer for L’Oreal Paris Youth Code Dark Spot SPF 30 Day Cream. And after using them, in tandem, for two weeks, I noticed that my dark mark was finally seeing the light. After a month, the mark is only slightly noticeable and I’m so thankful. And, overall, my complexion has a radiant glow about it.
Even when the mark vanishes completely, I plan to continue using the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution because it addresses pigmentation you can already see, as well as break-down and prevent anything from under the surface.
