Pantene Truly Natural Hair Care Collection

Pantene Pro V Truly Natural Relaxed Pantene Truly Natural Hair Care Collection

Because my hair is over-processed, dry and damaged, I only wash it about once a week. Which means that when I “do” it, I better do it right – or else my hair will look jacked for the next seven days. Forget a bad hair day; it’s more like a bad hair week for me. So when I’m offered the chance to review new hair product samples to review, I’m usually reluctant. But not this time, because it was Pantene doing the offering—and I’m a big fan of the brand.

A few weeks ago, Pantene reached out with an offer to send me one of their new-ish lines to review: Truly Relaxed or Truly Natural. I have chemically straightened hair and have used the Truly Relaxed products off-and-on for almost a year (they’re pretty fabulous), so I opted to try the Truly Natural line. Even though my hair hasn’t been in its “natural” state for almost three decades, the product descriptions contained important buzz words like “moisture,” “shine,” and “frizz control”—so I decided to give them a try.

Here’s what Pantene sent me:

Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Clarifying Shampoo is “designed to gently cleanse your hair’s unique structure and remove buildup—leaving it shiny, clean, and refreshed.” Overall, I really liked this shampoo. It effectively cleansed my hair, but was gentle while doing so. It smells fresh and I love that the formula is silicone, Paraben and dye-free.

Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Deep Conditioner is an “oil-enriched conditioner that moisturizes and detangles natural hair. This conditioner can provide up to 72 hours of moisture, leaving hair so healthy it shines.”  Again, this product did exactly what it promised: it imparted moisture while really aiding in the detangling process (which is often a literal pain for me). The formula is lightweight enough that you could use it daily, if that’s your routine.

Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Defining Curls Custard “works with your hair’s unique structure to define curls and control frizz up to 24 hours, even in humid weather. This styling custard leaves curls manageable and feeling soft.” Like I mentioned earlier, I don’t have curls. So I can’t really attest to how well this product will prevent ringlets from going rogue. But I will say that I applied this product sort of like I do other leave-ins (on towel dried hair before blow drying) and I think it gave me some extra moisture and styling hold. But note that the consistence is very light—not really like what you would expect from something called a custard.

Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Shine Serum with Argan Oil is “a daily serum that provides intense moisture and a long-lasting brilliant shine. It leaves your hair soft, smooth, and protected and ready for any natural ’do!” My hair is the black hole of shine, so I absolutely love this product. I used it after blow drying to give me that healthy shine that my hair lacks. And, every other day, I added a pump of the serum to my regular styling cream to re-up my shine.

The Truly Natural Line also includes a Co-Wash Cleansing Conditioner that “instantly cleanses, conditions, and detangles hair in one easy step without stripping the hair’s natural moisture. This low-lathering formula refreshes unmanageable curls and helps control frizz, leaving hair soft and shiny after use.” I really, really, REALLY wanted to try this product but it wasn’t sent to me for review. But I plan to pick up a bottle this week.

So the moral of the story is that, even if you don’t have natural hair, you can certainly use these products. I’ve personally used the products on my dry, chemically-straightened hair and found them to be gentle and very hydrating. My usually Sahara thirsty strands were hydrated, soft and silky. And at $5-8, the price point is nice too.
