“Wear sunscreen! I promise, you’ll thank me when you’re old!”
My mother, forever subtle, has been pushing sunscreen on me for as long as I can remember. Once I could drive, any time not spent working over the summer was spent at the beach, getting seriously bronze. Like most people, I prefer how I look with a little bit of a tan, and my sun protection usually had single-digit numbers. Fast-forward to my city life, where the majority of my time is spent indoors, and all of my foundations tend to have names like ivory and buff. I wear SPF 15 every single day to prevent skin damage – on my face, neck, and the back of my hands. I’ve been a faithful customer of Olay for years. They make a great all around moisturizer for sensitive skin, and I practically buy it in bulk.
I was very interested to see their new Fresh Effects line, which is clearly aimed at a slightly younger crowd than the majority of their products. Fresh Effects is “the skincare line that can really keep up with you. Deep clean, hydrate and refresh your skin so you stay sparkling all day and all night.” And they have a BB cream! I had to try it. BB creams (which stands for blemish balm or beauty balm, depending on your market) have been around for a long time. They are an all-in-one product, that one can use instead of serum, moisturizer, primer, and sunblock. BB creams started out huge in East and Southeast Asia, where a porcelain complexion (no bronzer or spray tans here!) is the beauty ideal. Now, they have made their way to the states, and were seriously popular in the past few years.
The Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream falls somewhere between BB cream and tinted moisturizer – it has SPF 15, moisturizing qualities, and a light wash of tint (choices are fair to light, and light to medium). I used it like a tinted moisturizer, just to see how it held up. My skin looked dewy, but I the coverage was lighter than I expected. I would suggest this product for someone with very clear skin who is just looking for some polish, or for us regular girls on a beach day – SPF 15 and a little color to boot!
