I love gift giving. Even more than I enjoy gift receiving. It’s a fun game for me. I get a thrill out of finding the perfect present. My secret/trick is pretty simple – whenever possible, I purchase personalized gifts. People love seeing their name on things. I know I do. A thoughtful touch can turn a generic item into something the recipient will treasure for years.
Here are some of my favorite personalized gift picks for 2014:
Brevity’s Signature Necklace ($195) is the ultimate thoughtful gift. This takes nameplate necklaces to the next level – because it’s not a font or a script. It’s a signature. And creating the necklace is as simple as uploading an image file. The necklace could be in the recipient’s handwriting, your own or someone else’s. And it doesn’t have to be a name. It could be a word, place or phrase that has special meaning. The possibilities are endless. Okay, I take back what I said at the beginning of this post. I would love to give this as a gift, but what I really, really, really want is to receive one of my own on Christmas morning.
This time of year, there are always people who you want to thank without breaking the bank. It’s tough because most gifts that cost around $10 are absolute crap. Not the Anthropologie Limited Edition Golden Monogram Mug ($10), though. It’s well made, looks like you spent a lot more, and is a gift that your recipient will actually use…a lot. It’s perfect for your kids’ teachers, a co-worker, the person who delivers your mail…the list goes on and on.
The Icing Gold Monogram Initial Key Ring ($7.50) is another great stocking stuffer that looks more expensive than it is. Icing is that kind of cheap-y store in the mall where 12-year-olds shop…so I didn’t have high hopes when I purchased a few of these online as gifts. I figured if the quality was poor, I’d simply return them. But when they arrived on my porch a few days later, I was very impressed with the quality…and I know the people receiving them will be too.
Okay…so this next gift isn’t a name or monogram. But it’s perfect for that woman in your life who reads her horoscope daily and is always blaming stuff on Mercury being in retrograde. This Kate Spade Saturday iPhone Case ($25) is a thoughtful gift, but all it really requires you know about the recipient is her birthday and iPhone model.
I don’t know about you, but I always kick myself when I go to the grocery store and they ask me if I brought a reusable bag. I’m all for going green, but I always forget! If I had Pottery Barn’s Personalized Alphabet Grocery Tote Bag ($19), I betcha I’d remember more often.
Kate Spade’s One In a Million Business Card Holder ($22.50) is on sale now at Nordstrom, Plus there’s always free shipping!
