If You Have Hair, The Wet Brush is a Must Have

For years, I have used an oversized wide-tooth comb to detangle my notoriously impossible to detangle post-shampoo hair. The amount of hair that would get caught in the teeth was somewhat alarming. But I chalked it up to the fact that I only wash my hair once a week - so maybe the hair loss really wasn't all that CONTINUE READING

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Cover April Issue of Vogue

Welp, folks, it looks like Kanye finally wore Anna Wintour down and got his baby mama a coveted Vogue cover. So the rumors were true. Shaving every day is a huge pain in the tuchus. And you’ve been way too busy to make an appointment for a wax. Honey, I hear you. I sympathize. But that’s no reason for you to be walking around looking like a Monchhichi.

Lucky for you hirsute ladies, there’s Veet Salon Line Ready to Use Wax Strips. They help to achieve smooth and silky desirable legs and bikini line in minutes – from the comfort of your home. Using the product is quick, easy and virtually mess-free. Just warm a wax strip between your hands, apply, and let ‘er rip. The strips not only effectively remove hair…they also feature a delicate aromatherapy scent that pampers your senses and suits your skin type.

veet+salon+line 80s Ladies Week: At Home Solution To A Hairy SituationThe normal to dry skin wax strips are specially designed to moisturize as they remove hair. The sensitive skin wax strips are dye-free and contain Vitamin E and Almond Oil. And here’s the bonus…the Salon Line wax strips are designed for hair as short as 2mm, so you never have to wait for your hair to get “long enough” to wax for salon-like results.

Veet products are conveniently sold at your local drugstore.

80s Ladies Week: Cool Beans Courtesy of Kenzo

dynasty+gals 80s Ladies Week: Cool Beans Courtesy of Kenzo
For the fourth installment of 80s Ladies Week, I am inspired by one of the most heinous fashion felonies – shoulder pads.

Sometime in the early 1980s, someone had the asinine idea to create these mini monstrosities. Their original purpose remains unclear…perhaps they were invented to facilitate naps on airplane rides…you know, like a predecessor to the travel pillow. But those suckers caught on, and for an entire decade, females everywhere were running around looking like cross-dressing football players. Even arch rivals Krystle Carrington and Alexis Colby shared a mutual love for the dy-NASTY shoulder pads. And as you can see, these ladies liked ‘em big.

But bigger isn’t always better…which is why, circa 1992, women came to their senses and downsized…and also why I love Kenzo’s new (shoulder pad-shaped) RYOKO fragrance pebbles.

This collection of five pocket-sized, leak-proof fragrance atomizers has become a summer staple in my handbag. If you’re a gal who likes her fragrance to go, you’ll love the creativity and convenience of the RYOKO. In your cavernous bag (I know you’ve got one), it’s a breeze to find thanks to the punchy colors. And its ergonomically-designed packaging just begs to be handled.

The RYOKO is available in five fabulous fragrances:

Flower by Kenzo
Kenzo Amour
L’eau Par Kenzo
L’eau Par Kenzo Pour Homme
Tokyo by Kenzo

My pick? Flower by Kenzo – without a doubt. I’m so obsessed, Kenzo might need to take out a restraining order.

The RYOKO fragrance pebbles are available for $29 at kenzousa.com.

mickey 80s Ladies Week: Oh, Cargo...Youre So Fine!
If you caught yesterday’s installment of 80s Ladies Week, you know that I’m pretty handy with the pom-poms. So it should come as no surprise that one of my childhood idols was singer/choreographer/fellow Philadelphian, Toni Basil.

For today’s 80s-inspired product review, I’m going to steal a line from Toni’s pop music classic…

Oh, Cargo you’re so fine,
You’re so fine you blow my mind.
Hey Cargo!
Hey Cargo!

On the 4th of July, I was invited to a late-evening barbecue not too far from my own apartment. I had to hoof it because there was no chance of finding parking anywhere in the vicinity of the art museum, which serves as backdrop for the city’s Independence Day festivities. The weather was pretty typical for July – hot and humid – with a light drizzle.

So before heading out the door, I finger painted with Cargo’s Melt-proof 3 in 1 Eye-Cheek-Lip Palette and swiped on some Better-than-waterproof Mascara. Eight city blocks later, I showed up at the party looking perfectly polished – and you know how shiny I can get. And when I returned home late that night, my makeup still looked freshly applied!!!

The Cargo Melt-proof Make-up Collection, which also includes a Melt-proof Bronzer, is limited-edition and costs $39 (retail value is $90). Pick this up immediately, you’ll thank me later. You will be absolutely amazed at the staying power – it’ll blow your mind!

Cargo products are available at Sephora, Amazon.com, and cargocosmetics.com.

80s Ladies Week: You Need Lise Watier Havana Dry Oil Today…Not Tomorrow!

annie1 80s Ladies Week: You Need Lise Watier Havana Dry Oil Today...Not Tomorrow!
Back in the mid-eighties, I wanted to be an orphan. But not just any orphan…little orphan Annie. As a musically-inclined rugrat, I couldn’t imagine anything better than singing and dancing around all day, not going to school, and getting into shenanigans with my best girlfriends.

I would watch my VHS tape recording of Annie incessantly. I watched that movie like it was my J-O-B. And when the tape wasn’t in the VCR, I was playing the soundtrack on my Fisher Price record player. My mom probably cursed the day that she bought that record, because from then on, I was running around the house acting out every scene and practicing the songs like I was Broadway-bound. With a red cheerleading pom-pom perfectly perched on my head, I belted out “Tomorrow” like there was no tomorrow.

Okay, enough of my trip down memory lane. It’s 80s Ladies Week here at Spoiled Pretty and, today, my product review is inspired by my favorite childhood movie. You know how the orphans sang “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile?” Well, while that may be true, this beauty junkie insists you’re never fully dressed without Lise Watier’s new Havana Dry Oil Body Glow.

lisewaiter 80s Ladies Week: You Need Lise Watier Havana Dry Oil Today...Not Tomorrow!Picture it…it’s Friday or Saturday night. You’re getting ready to go out with your man or meet up with your friends. You’re wearing a pair of kitten heels that would make Carrie Bradshaw blush and you’ve got your freakum dress on. But you’re not ready until you dress your arms, legs, and décolletage in Havana Dry Oil. The luxurious texture of this dry oil melts on the skin, and its golden shimmering pearls reflect the light to leave the skin with a luminous tan.

Formulated with a light sunscreen and enriched with emollients and antioxidant Vitamin E, Havana Dry Oil penetrates quickly, leaving skin silky smooth, without any greasy or oily residue…so you don’t “shine like the top of the Chrystler Building.” And the baby oil scent smells heavenly!

80s Ladies Week: Laura Mercier 24 Karat Nail Lacquer is a Scene Stealer!

justthetenofus0 80s Ladies Week: Laura Mercier 24 Karat Nail Lacquer is a Scene Stealer!
If you’re a child of the 80s, you probably remember a delightful gem of a spinoff called Just The Ten Of Us. Coach Graham Lubbock, introduced on Growing Pains, moves his super-sized family to California and takes a job at St Augustine’s Academy. The sitcomy twist? It’s an all-boys school, and he has five daughters to enroll.

justthetenofus1 80s Ladies Week: Laura Mercier 24 Karat Nail Lacquer is a Scene Stealer! Why can’t the daughters attend a nearby coed or all-girls school? Shhhhh…don’t ask questions.

Anway, most of the laughs come courtesy of the eldest girls: nun-wannabe Marie, sweet but slow Cindy, Wendy the blond flirt, and snarky intellectual Connie (my fave). Despite their diverse personalities, I think they would have all loved Laura Mercier’s new Nail Lacquer in 24 Karat.

24+karat+005 80s Ladies Week: Laura Mercier 24 Karat Nail Lacquer is a Scene Stealer!
This long-lasting, quick-dry, formaldehyde-free formula looks amazing…not just on the ten of your fingers – but also on toes! And as you can see, it’s the perfect color to set off your summer sun- (or spray-) tan.

Picture it…it’s Friday night and Cindy and Wendy don’t have much time to get ready for their respective dates. They wrestle and pillow fight over who gets to wear 24 Karat, while Connie jealously schemes to pilfer the polish for herself. All the while, Marie’s praying for her sinful sisters’ salvation. Hilarity ensues.

[Insert laugh track here.]

End scene.
