Tea Time

A few weeks back, I attended the TotalBeauty.com launch event at Space NK in SoHo, NYC. My trip up from Philadelphia was, let’s put it this way, an adventure. So upon crossing the threshold into the store, I quickly downed two glasses of champagne and perused the inventory with my fellow beauty bloggers – shout out to Marina, Elke, Julia, and Antonia for putting me at ease and making me feel so welcome!

I was introduced to many new brands and products that night, but the one that I immediately regretted not buying was the Thai Tea Body Wash from Philip B. Seriously, I was on Amtrak riding back to Philly thinking, “Why didn’t I get that body wash? It smelled sooo yummy.” After a week of hemming and hawing, I broke down and decided I had to have it; and it’s been a fixture in my shower caddy ever since.

thaitea Tea TimeInspired by Philip B.’s journey through Asia, Thai Tea Body Wash is enriched with 20% pure botanical plant extracts indigenous to Thailand. Ingredients include Thai Tea (rich in antioxidants), honey (moisturizes), coconut oil (softens skin), milk proteins (gently exfoliates), peppermint (stimulates circulation), lemon grass (normalizes oil production), ginger root (soothes skin), and citronella (deodorizes and balances oil production).

The smell is sweet, yet invigorating (it reminds me of the spa) and is the perfect AM pick-me-up I need before starting my day. It foams well, and tingles a little on the skin – thanks to the peppermint oil.

At $40 (you can get it at Amazon.com for $35) it’s pricey; when I first saw the cost of the Thai Tea Body Wash, my eyes were as big as saucers…don’t ya just love my puns? But a little goes a long way, so don’t use a cup when a teaspoon will do (there I go again) and use a loofah to extend the life of the 12 oz. bottle.

This Holiday, I Wish You Laughter

giftwrap2 This Holiday, I Wish You Laughter
Here’s one thing you probably don’t know about me. I am an expert gift wrapper. I take pleasure in the holidays, not just for obvious reasons, but because it gives me the opportunity to flaunt my knack for gift wrap.

But I recognize that not everyone is as gifted as yours truly…gifted, get it?

[Crickets]

spacenk laughter This Holiday, I Wish You LaughterSo if you’ve got any last-minute gifts to buy, here’s a suggestion. The bath and body products from Space NK are fantastically fragrant, and the gift sets come in the most charming packages – so there’s no wrapping required!

Space NK’s founder, Nicky Kinnaird’s travels inspired the indulgent products. Of the line’s many scent options, I prefer Laughter – which is fragranced with “an uplifting blend of lime, rosemary and juniper enlivened by an unexpected sweet, spicy bite of ginger.”

The Ultimate Experience in Laughter is a perfect introduction to the Space NK Bath & Body range; it includes Body Wash, Body Balm, Bath Oil, Soap, two Bath Tablets, Travel Candle, and Eau de Toilette.

Don’t Be Tempted

 Dont Be Tempted
At a company holiday party last week, the conversation turned to beauty products – as it usually does when I’m around. Two coworkers told me the same harrowing story – okay, maybe I’m being a bit melodramatic, but it wasn’t a good story.

Both women recently paid a visit to their local Bath & Body Works and were tempted into purchasing items from the Holiday Temptations line (not a surprise, given the yummy packaging). After taking the products home and using them, they were taken aback by the stains left on their tubs and towels.

We never got around to discussing how well the products work, but let’s be real – a shower gel had better get me squeaky clean (and wash away my cellulite) if it’s going to stain my shower.

This Giveaway Is Made To Order

Happy beginning of the workweek, everyone! Mondays are always hard – so to soften the blow, Spoiled Pretty is hosting one of our world-famous giveaways! This time, we are partnering with our friends over at bōbē – and we’re giving away a $25 gift certificate to bobebathessentials.com!!!

Bōbē (an acronym for “beyond ordinary bath essentials”) creates bath and body products that are made to order, so you can have it your way. Behind the brand is master mixologist, Marlese Sears, who combines exotic ingredients to create her unique body butters, lip balms, perfumes, lotions, scrubs and cleansers.

With 50 scents to choose from, it’s almost impossible to decide on which bath and body products to place in your virtual shopping cart. And lip balms are available in 71 flavors, made fresh in small batches, for the perfect kiss of sweetness.

bobe This Giveaway Is Made To OrderMy favorite product is the Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter; I have the Madagascar Vanille scent (I have a bit of a vanilla dependence). The consistency is light and airy, so you’d think it might come up short in the moisturizing category. But it’s surprisingly hydrating, in a non-greasy way. And the scents are spot-on. From Lemon Biscotti to Pumpkin Cheesecake, Sake to White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie – they smell exactly like you would imagine – or perhaps even better, if that’s even possible.

Products are made fresh at the time you place an order, and made in small batches using few, simple ingredients. And bōbē believes strongly in giving back and supporting the community, so each month, 5% of bōbē retail sales are given to a different charity.

To enter to win a $25 gift certificate to bōbē, leave a comment in the comments section below by 9 pm EST on Thursday, December 20th – be sure to include your name and email address (even if you have a Blogger profile). Or email me at spoiledpretty@gmail.com.

A winner will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Friday, December 21st, I’ll announce the winner’s name. Please, only one comment per person; duplicate comments will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents. Good luck!

Too Much Of A Good Thing?

Too Much Of A Good Thing?
Three years ago, Bath & Body Works abandoned its single brand, single price point strategy when it started carrying popular lines like C.O. Bigelow, Frederic Fekkai, and Wexler. Neil Fiske, then CEO, said of the change, “This represents another step in the transformation of Bath & Body Works from raspberry shower gel to a modern apothecary of beauty and well-being.”

Now, Bath & Body Works is reinventing itself, once again, by cutting its outside vendor list by 50%. Upscale brands that have left, or are slated to leave flagships by the end of the year include DDF, Peter Thomas Roth, Korres, Juvena, and The Savannah Bee Company. “We still feel very strongly about third-party brands and continue to carry them. We continue to look for not only new items within the brands we carry, but also additional brands,” current CEO Diane Neal said. “I personally think we over-assorted ourselves,” she added.

So if your favorite brand is getting the ax, visit your nearest Bath and Body Works store now and adopt a few soon-to-be homeless beauty products.
