Beautiful Things My Mother Taught Me

Mom and me, circa 1979 Disclosure: This post is sponsored by CoverGirl. Mother’s Day is this Sunday and I’m so excited. Not just because Mr. Spoiled Pretty and my son, Westley, are treating me to a decadent brunch. But because it’s an opportunity to celebrate my hero, Andrea Stamps. I must admit that until two years ago, Mother’s Day was just another CONTINUE READING

Bath & Body Works 3-Wick Candles: 2 for $22

At Christmastime, I agonized over what to get my son's daycare teachers. There are 12 of them - and even though he has his two main teachers, they all have interaction with him and take excellent care of him. So I needed to buy 12 gifts to show my appreciation, without breaking the bank. $10 each seemed doable, except CONTINUE READING

IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Creme SPF 15

As a beauty expert, I’m embarrassed by how late I am to the BB Cream party. In the past year, so many friends and colleagues have asked me about BB Creams—what’s the buzz, which brands are the best, etc. —and they would look at me funny when I admitted to not having tried BB Creams yet. I mean, they CONTINUE READING

CoverGirl Outlast Brilliant Shine Nail Gloss in Vio-last

I’m very fickle about my fingernails. Before I paint my nails or get them professionally did, I spend a inordinate amount of time pondering my polish options. I consider the season, recent trends, my wardrobe that week and anywhere special I might go. But despite all of this planning, I’m usually over my polish choice before it even dries. My New Arm Candy: Rebecca Minkoff Swing Bag

After beauty products, handbags are my secondary addiction. But when it comes to arm candy, I have discriminating taste. For me, the perfect handbag seamlessly marries fashion with function, is handcrafted from high-quality materials, has really unique hardware and is classic but edgy - all at the same time. I don't like to carry the of-the-moment "it" bag. I CONTINUE READING

Versace Yellow Diamond Giveaway

versace yellow diamond 1024x665 Versace Yellow Diamond GiveawayI have a very discriminating nose, which is why a lot of fragrance reviews don’t see the light of day on the pages of Spoiled Pretty. I have a few favorites (Hanae Mori Butterfly, Prada Infusion d’Iris, Kai, Philosophy Amazing Grace, L’Instant de Guerlain, Carol’s Daughter Sugar-Dipped Vanilla) – but most perfumes don’t impress me enough to warrant a review.

So the fact that I’m posting about Yellow Diamond should tell you that I’m definitely impressed with Versace’s latest olfactory offering. CONTINUE READING

bethenny frankel Skinnygirl Face and Body Gift Set Giveaway!Bethenny Frankel is my CBFFIMH (Celebrity Best Friend Forever in My Head) – along with Kathy Griffin and Wendy Williams.

Bethenny and I were introduced back in March of 2008 when The Real Housewives of New York premiered. She quickly won me over with her unpretentious personality and quick wit, and we’ve been BFF’s (again, in my head) ever since. Bethenny and I even had our children around the same time (Bethenny gave birth to Bryn in May of 2010 and Westley arrived in August of that year). I remember even more of a kinship with Bethenny as I watched her juggle marriage and motherhood, on the first season of Bethenny Getting Married?

Now I learn that me and my gal pal have even more in common. The reality-star-turned-entrepreneur has ventured into beauty, launching her Skinnygirl Face and Body collection. CONTINUE READING

Carol’s Daughter Sugar-Dipped Vanilla Bath and Body Collection

Carols Daughter Sugar Dipped Vanilla Bath and Body Collection

They got me. And by they, I mean Lisa Price and those hustlers at the Home Shopping Network.

A few weeks ago while at home on maternity leave, I was channel surfing and landed on HSN. Lisa, founder of Carol’s Daughter, and the HSN host were raving about the ‘Today’s Special’ – the new Sugar-Dipped Vanilla Bath and Body Collection. They extolled the virtues of the products’ ultra-hydrating properties, and couldn’t stop gushing about the collection’s unique fragrance profile. And by the end of the presentation, I had reserved a set for myself.

I don’t think I’ve ever purchased bath and body products without smelling them before, so ordering the Sugar-Dipped Vanilla products online was a leap of faith. And I fully intended to give someone a piece of my mind if my order didn’t live up to the hype. Luckily, the products turned out to be just as amazing as they were described – which is why I’m taking this opportunity to start spreadin’ the news.

For all of you fellow vanilla addicts out there, I think you’re going to dig the Sugar-Dipped Vanilla fragrance. Why? Well, because notes like peach, pink peony, guava, water lily, sandalwood and cotton candy set it apart from your run-of-the-mill vanilla scent. It smells so soft and fresh, and the fragrance is so flattering that I think a lot of vanilla haters will actually love it too. Trust me, you won’t smell like baked goods.

You’ll also love how the Sugar-Dipped Vanilla Bath and Body Collection – which includes body wash, body cream, and an ‘All Over Sheen’ (plus a loofah) – deeply moisturizes skin while leaving it velvety soft…not greasy.

I’ve been using the collection every day since it arrived on my doorstep, and I adore it so much that I’m kicking myself for not also buying the Sugar-Dipped Vanilla Eau de Toilette Rollerball.

The Sugar-Dipped Vanilla Bath and Body Collection are an HSN exclusive, so if you take my advice and snag yourself a set, visit hsn.com.

HomeGoods, How Do I Love Thee?

HomeGoods HomeGoods, How Do I Love Thee?
HomeGoods, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…
Since being introduced by my mom a few years ago, HomeGoods and I have grown quite close. HomeGoods has become one of my favorite retail destinations – especially since moving into my new house (movin’ on up, Jeffersons style). Every room in my new abode has somehow been touched by HomeGoods – from the baskets I bought to organize my arsenal of beauty products to the artwork in my bathroom to the jungle-themed growth chart and bookends I bought for Westley’s nursery.
Besides furniture and decorative home accents, Home Goods has some wonderful bath and body products. My favorites are from CST (Commonwealth Soap & Toiletries), a Massachusetts-based company that develops products for HomeGoods and its sisters, Marshalls and TJ Maxx. I’ve been crushing on this company for years, thanks to their high quality/reasonably priced beauty products. I’ve blogged about them before, but I recently discovered something new that warrants another mention.

A few weeks ago, my mom threw me a fabulous baby shower. We played some fun games, and one of the prizes was this soap set my mom found at HomeGoods. The soaps smelled so divine, I felt greedy for coveting a set of my own…especially considering the generous gifts my guests had given me. After the party ended and everyone went home, I was chatting with my mom about the soaps, and she admitted she kept a set for herself. Now, I was super jeal.

But I must have good kharma because, last weekend, Mom and I went to a random HomeGoods in New Jersey and found a set of the soaps. AND they were marked down to $3.50!

So if you’re in a HomeGoods, TJ Maxx or Marshalls anytime soon, look for a round box of soaps that looks like the one pictured above. Though it’s difficult to accurately describe the scent (I’ve never been great at that), I would say that it has a subtle, floral/powdery, feminine fragrance. Go get you some. You’ll thank me later.
