I’ll Never Apply Blush The Same Way Again

Posted on by daneen in Beauty Tips, Blush | 2 Comments

jillian+dempsey Ill Never Apply Blush The Same Way AgainJillian Dempsey is a smart cookie. She’s the lucky lass who took McDreamy off the market. So when Jillian, a makeup artist and Global Creative Color Director for Avon, shared her tips for choosing and applying blush…you best believe I’m taking copious notes.

“When I’m working on a client, I smile so she’ll smile, which accentuates the best part of the cheeks to apply blush. I put the the highest concentration of color just outside of the fattest part of the cheeks – not directly under the eyes. You don’t want that flush of color to be too close to the nose or the temples because that screams ‘too much blush.’”

Since reading Jillian’s advice in November’s issue of Allure, I have been applying my blush exactly as she recommends. And I have to say that I am amazed at the difference a few millimeters can make. For the first time in what I fear is too long, I actually look like I’m blushing.

Is There A Correct Order For Applying Hair Products?

Posted on by daneen in Beauty Tips, Hair | 1 Comment

You shampoo your hair. Then you apply a mis-mash of conditioner and styling products in an attempt to tame your mane. But is there a correct order for applying hair products post-shampoo? O, The Oprah Magazine’s beauty director, Valerie Monroe, sets the record straight.

valerie+monroe Is There A Correct Order For Applying Hair Products?Yes, that’s a good idea, says Eva Scrivo, owner of the eponymous salon in New York City, because each product has a different function.

After you shampoo, start with a conditioner or detangler to coat the hair so that the styling products you use next will be evenly absorbed. Follow that, if you like, with a mousse, styling gel, or styling lotion, which you should comb through your hair for even distribution, to increase the product’s effectiveness. (Combing through ensures that the stuff covers the whole strand instead of just lying on top of it, so you get more volume or moisture saturation or whatever it is you’re going for.) Finally, if your hair is frizzy or hard to control, work a silicone-based smoothing product through the ends before you blow-dry. After you’ve done your styling, you can use a spray for shine and hold, or, if you want a piecey look, try a texturizing wax.

Bottom Line: The magic formula is condition, style, then hold.

Kim+Kardashian Kim Kardashians Video Makeup Lesson: Part IV, Lashes and Lips!
I know that you Kim Kardashian fans have been anxiously waiting for the finale of her “Smokey Eye” video tutorial. Today, Kim and her makeup artist, Stephen Moleski, show us how to finish the look with lush lashes and kissable lips.

* Stephen recommends fake eyelashes with a clear base, because they’re more pliable.

* Cut fake lashes to desired length.

* Apply Duo Surgical Adhesive to fake lash strip and let dry until adhesive gets tacky.

* While looking down, slip on lash strip – then press false lashes into your own so they blend.

* Kim uses MAC Select/Sheer Loose Powder in NC45 as a bronzer.

* Sweep a highlighting powder under the eye.

* Remove mascara wand from tube (Kim is partial to MAC Zoom Lash) and wipe excess with a tissue to prevent clumping. Then apply to lashes.

* Line lips with a liner that closely matches your natural lip color (Kim uses MAC Lip Pencil in Stripdown), then blend.

* Fill in lips with a pale lipstick, like MAC Lipstick in Angel.

* Top off those lovely lips with a gorgeous gloss, like Kim’s fave, NARS Lip Gloss in Turkish Delight.

* Finally, sweep a little powder blush onto cheeks; Stephen uses MAC Pro Powder Blush in Shy and Cheek
