MAC Ungaro

Live from backstage at the Fall 2008 Collections, It-Boy designer, Esteban Cortazar, and MAC have come together to create a special colour collection as dreamy, refined, and, well, Parisienne as anything this side of the Avenue Georges V, exclusively ours! A limited edition for lips, cheeks, eyes…chez Ungaro, only for MAC.

“Our association with Ungaro is really exciting as we’ve supported Esteban for many years. He’s reflective of an attitude and movement for venerable fashion houses to reinvent their brands by employing new emerging talent, something that’s a core value of MAC,” explains Creative Director, James Gager.

The collaboration also represents the many personalities and aesthetics to which MAC makeup appeals. “MAC’s a high/low fashion brand,” continues Gager. “We follow equally couture and street culture, a sense of yin and yang is inherent to the brand and our customers – heavy-duty dramatic makeup alongside that which is girly, fresh and light. Following from our dramatic and outrageous collaboration with McQueen last year, we felt that Ungaro represented another side of MAC’s personality.”

Carrie Underwood Is Just Like Us: She’s a Makeup Junkie!

Carrie Underwood is Allure‘s cover girl for their September 2008 issue.

Makeup artist Brigitte Reiss-Andersen was inspired by glamorous Bond girl Ursula Andress. “The idea with Carrie’s makeup was to showcase her eyes and give them that ‘pop,'” says Reiss-Andersen.

First, she sponged on a light wash of foundation and dabbed the apples of Underwood’s cheeks with a peach cream blush. Then she rimmed Underwood’s eyes in charcoal liner and blended cranberry and nude eye shadow from the lash line to the crease. She added “tons of fake lashes” as well as mascara. Finally, Reiss-Andersen applied a sheer and pearly lip gloss so it “didn’t compete with her eyes.”

To re-create the look, try:

* Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadows in Cinnamon and Beige
* Chanel Powder Blush in Horizon
* Chanel Aqualumiere Gloss in Bonbon

Reiss-Andersen offered to tone down Underwood’s makeup before she headed out the door, but the singer loved it so much that she kept it. She signed a few autographs for the crew before heading off to shop for cosmetics at a local mall with her mom and sister – fake eyelashes and all!

Prediction: MAC’s Cult of Cherry Will Spawn Cult Following This Fall

I don’t know where you live, but it was straight-up fall in Philly today. And while I’m an autumn baby (holla at my Libras), I’m sad to see summer slip away. But whether we like it or not, the change of seasons is imminent and inevitable. So to properly prepare you for the coming months, this week, Spoiled Pretty will be bringing you the skinny on the hottest fall makeup collections.

First up is MAC’s Cult of Cherry.

The GLAMORAMA beauty trend took center stage during the Fall/Winter 2008 Fashion Shows. Glam goes rock with punk-tuated eyes and heady lips. Hedonistic, transformative makeup stole the spotlight. Seen on the runways of such shows at Giles, The Blonds, Vivienne Westwood and Zac Posen (left), MAC Cult of Cherry is the perfect way to get the look. Turn up the volume on your makeup or tone it down for everyday wear, the collection can be worn in a multitude of ways to suit your needs.

Thanks to my friends at MAC, I got sneak peek at the collection. And if the samples I received are any indication, we’re all in for a delicious treat.

Tempting Eye Shadow Quad
Next to Nothing: Sheer yellow beige with pink pearl (frost)
Tempting: Rich coco (lustre)
Sharp: Frosty bright yellow gold (satin)
Dark Edge: Dirty chocolate brown (satin)

So Scarlet Lipstick: Clean grape burgundy (amplified)
Creme Cerise: Sheer yellow taupe (lustre)
Kirsch: Blackened cranberry (matte)
Jampacked: Sheer grape with multi-dimensional pearl (frost)

Though many of these colors are bit dark and saturated to rock right away, I couldn’t resist getting a jump start on my fall makeup wardrobe. Creme Cerise is my new go-to nude. After sundown, I break out Jampacked. Plum de Bois Powder Blush (not pictured) didn’t wow me in the pot, but is absolutely stunning on the skin. And Kirsch has been claimed by Mama Spoiled Pretty (aka Sticky Fingers).

Cult of Cherry will be available in stores and at from August 21 through October 2008. But you know how quickly these limited-edition MAC collections fly off the shelves. So I don’t need to tell you to mark your calendars.

80s Ladies Week: Oh, Cargo…You're So Fine!

If you caught yesterday’s installment of 80s Ladies Week, you know that I’m pretty handy with the pom-poms. So it should come as no surprise that one of my childhood idols was singer/choreographer/fellow Philadelphian, Toni Basil.

For today’s 80s-inspired product review, I’m going to steal a line from Toni’s pop music classic…

Oh, Cargo you’re so fine,
You’re so fine you blow my mind.
Hey Cargo!
Hey Cargo!

On the 4th of July, I was invited to a late-evening barbecue not too far from my own apartment. I had to hoof it because there was no chance of finding parking anywhere in the vicinity of the art museum, which serves as backdrop for the city’s Independence Day festivities. The weather was pretty typical for July – hot and humid – with a light drizzle.

So before heading out the door, I finger painted with Cargo’s Melt-proof 3 in 1 Eye-Cheek-Lip Palette and swiped on some . Eight city blocks later, I showed up at the party looking perfectly polished – and you know how shiny I can get. And when I returned home late that night, my makeup still looked freshly applied!!!

The Cargo Melt-proof Make-up Collection, which also includes a Melt-proof Bronzer, is limited-edition and costs $39 (retail value is $90). Pick this up immediately, you’ll thank me later. You will be absolutely amazed at the staying power – it’ll blow your mind!

Cargo products are available at Sephora,, and
