A few weeks ago, I paid a visit to my local Bath & Body Works store. I was on the hunt for a tropical-smelling body wash that wouldn’t break the bank, and B&BW seemed like a good place to search. When I entered the store, I was greeted my a really nice saleswoman who asked me what I was looking for. I told her I was looking for something coconutty and she recommended their new Cool Coconut Surf Shower Gel. Typically, a bottle would set you back $12.50, but since it’s new, it was only $6. It smelled good and I almost bought it…that is, until I found a bottle of Coconut Water Chill Shower Gel in the clearance bin marked down to $2.75. I liked the scent a little better and the price couldn’t be beat. CONTINUE READING
Hello Spoiled Pretty readers. I am thrilled to be a contributing writer for SP! I’ve been looking for a hobby and thought “why don’t I funnel my interests to one place?” I hope that you enjoy my suggestions as we go through the journey of my new hobby together.
First and foremost – I absolutely LOVE Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics products. My first experience in one of their stores dates back 5ish years. My mother, sister and I were on our way home from a Yankees game (a tradition of ours), and we had some time to kill before getting to our train. We were on 14th Street walking away from Union Square when an adorable young man coaxed us into the shop promising us free facials and hand treatments. The scent that was pouring out of the door and into the New York City air was intoxicating. It was sweet and delicious – so we decided to indulge ourselves…
I remember thinking as I washed my hands with “Buffy” how happy I felt. And I thought, “Wow, this stuff really is awesome – this guy isn’t as full of it as I thought he could be!” Buffy is an exfoliating bar made with crushed brown rice, almonds and beans. And because it has Shea and cocoa butter – you don’t need to add moisturizer. The scent reminded me of the beach and the coziness of an over sized sweater.
I was also introduced to Olive Branch Shower Gel that day. I have never been to Italy (I hope to go one day) but the scent brings my mind to imagine it’s how an olive farm smells on a warm sunny day (who knows, I may go to an olive farm one day and smell nothing but dirt and manure – but until then…). With this shower gel it is important to note the directions to shake the bottle first, because of the natural oils used to make it, they will rise to the top of the bottle. The directions say “to shake (the gel, not your body)”, but what’s wrong with a little tush shake to get your day going?
Since that trip to NYC, both Buffy and the Olive Branch Shower Gel have been staples in my shower. And thankfully, my new husband is observant enough to stock me up just before I run out.

I lead a double life…hell, triple, to be honest. I have a full-time job, manage Spoiled Pretty in my spare time and I’m the mom of a very active baby boy, Westley. So I can really appreciate a beauty product that does double duty while, literally, shaving time off my beauty routine.
LAVANILA The Healthy Body Wash 2-In-1 Shower & Shave is an all-natural body wash that prevents irritation as you shave. The hydrating formula – enriched with coconut and rosehip oils, as well as aloe – gently cleanses without leaving my skin dry or tight afterwards. It’s sulfate free, so don’t expect lots and lots of lather…just enough to let you know it’s doing its job and where you’ve already shaved.
The smell is divine. The brand sent me the Vanilla Passion Fruit to test, which is a wonderful summertime fragrance. It’s not too strong, yet not so light that – mid shower – you’re thinking, “What scent is this supposed to be, again?” It also won’t compete with your lotion or perfume, if you choose something other than the corresponding LAVANILA body products.
LAVANILA is a family affair in my house. They have a wonderful collection of products for wee ones too, which Mr. Spoiled Pretty and I use to baby Westley’s skin. Check out my review of The Healthy Baby Butter here.

H&M, the international fashion retailer known for offering fashion-forward apparel and quality basics, just announced its first ever range of skincare with certified organic ingredients.
Debuting in stores at the beginning of March, the range of everyday essentials includes shower gel, body scrub, body lotion, hand cream and lip balm, all of which are based on natural and organic ingredients and are certified by Ecocert (Europe’s biggest certification body for organic and natural cosmetics). The products are available in the fragrance combinations of raspberry and melon or lavender and mint, and are accompanied by make-up and toiletry bags made from organic cotton.
“It felt like a natural step, since we’ve worked with organic cotton garments for a few seasons now. There’s also a strong demand from our customers for organics, and I hope they will be as excited as I am about the new products,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s head of design.
Shower gel contains the juice of organic apples, while organic apple juice and apricot seeds are key ingredients in the body scrub. Organic apple juice and oils from sunflower seeds make up an essential part of the body lotion, while the hand cream has organic apple juice and oils from organic almond seeds. The lip balm has the key organic ingredients of jojoba and beeswax, and all of the products are scented with natural perfumes derived from essential oils, sold in recyclable packaging.
Prices range from $4.95 to $7.95:
Hello, friends! Remember the fabulous giveaway I hosted a few weeks ago where one lucky reader got a chance to try Olay’s new Total Effects 7-in-1 Advanced Anti-Aging Body Wash (available in two formulas: Deep Penetrating Moisture and Exfoliate and Replenish)? Well, the winner wrote back about her prize, and I wanted to share her review with all of you. So without further ado…
Although initially unimpressed with the Olay Total Effects 7-in-1 Advanced Anti-Aging bottles (which look like they were left in the sun too long and yellowed) and the scent (which is heavily floral), once I squeezed some of the Deep Penetrating Moisture body wash into my hand, I was enthused. The body wash is thick, reminding me of conditioner rather than liquid soap, and applied smoothly with very little lather, like a silky lotion. My skin immediately felt softer and more elastic, changes that lasted through toweling dry and were still noticeable 12 hours later. I convinced one of my family members to product test with me, and she agreed that the scent, though not offensive, was not particularly pleasant and thought that the body wash had a remarkably creamy texture and left her skin well hydrated.
The Exfoliate and Replenish body wash was less heavily scented, a definite improvement, but I was dissatisfied with the micro-derm beads, considering them to be too smooth for proper exfoliation. Since they are suspended in a cream similar to the Deep Penetrating Moisture, my skin still received a boost of hydration, though not as much. However, my fellow product tester was much more impressed. She found the smell pleasant, thought the body wash had just the right amount of beads that delivered gentle exfoliation and reported that her skin felt soft after use.
Of the two, the Deep Penetrating Moisture variety was definitely my preference, though I wish Olay would tone down the scent a bit. My skin was noticeably softer and smoother for almost 24 hours, which is a great victory over dry winter skin. -Erin
