Because Shaving is the Pits: DERMAdoctor Gorilla Warfare Antiperspirant Giveaway!

My hair grows like a weed. Unfortunately, the hair of which I speak is not on my head. My legs and underarms give my razor a workout. If I shave in the morning, by afternoon, I've got stubble. And forget about skipping days...unless I want to look like Sasquatch. Getting rid of the hair is not only expensive (I CONTINUE READING

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: BlowPro Perfect Shower Cap

The shower and my chemically-straightened hair are frenemies. Every seventh day when I wash my hair, they get along great in a shampoo Shangri-la. But the rest of the week, I employ a shower cap to keep the steam from undoing the silky straightness. I have been wearing shower caps since I was a child, and I’ve tried them CONTINUE READING

Get Catty With Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses

I've been searching for some cat eye sunnies for forever. On a whim, I bought these Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses from Shopbop - hoping that they wouldn't look too cartoonish. Even though I was afraid they'd be too large, I'm digging the oversized frames. They make a statement without overwhelming my face. And the cat eye shape is subtle, so it's not CONTINUE READING

I hardly have time to do anything, let alone a DIY - so I needed to find some lacquers that fit my new lifestyle. Yesterday, while going my grocery shopping, I picked up Revlon CONTINUE READING

Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. Guess what I found at TJ Maxx? If you read the title of the post, you already know. But I’m super excited – so let’s play a game. I’m going to ask you the question again…and this time, you’re going to pretend you don’t know the answer. M’kay?

Guess what I found at TJ Maxx today? Comptoir Sud Pacifique!!! Yay!!!

Before anyone could get wise to my serendipitous discovery, I hastily threw Aloha Tiare Exotically Rich Body Butter and Vanilla Abricot Transporting Bath and Shower Gel into my cart. As you can see from the price tag, I only paid $5.99 each!

If you live near the Jenkintown, PA location…go get you some. I left a few on the shelf for you. I also spied Frederic Fekkai shampoos and conditioners (for $14) and Tan For All Seasons Scrub + Color Self-Tanning Set (for the low, low price of $16!).

John Varvatos For Women

varvatos John Varvatos For Women
I don’t typically get excited about warm weather fragrances. Smelling like the beach, fruit cocktail or a bouquet of wildflowers just isn’t me. So when I took a whiff of John Varvatos’ long-anticipated fragrance for women, I was pleasantly surprised. And after a few spritzes, I was hooked.

Varvatos drew his inspiration from the kind of woman who intrigues him…

She’s an uptown sophisticate and a downtown bohemian, but she is far from being all things to all people – she is ever herself. She loves socializing in the comfort o home, going out with friends to understated gallery openings, films, concerts and reading. She mixes high and low effortlessly – shopping at flea markets, vintage stores, jewelry auctions, and the hippest boutiques to create her confident, individual and uniquely chic style. This style extends beyond her wardrobe and is ever present in her home and her surroundings. She is a natural beauty with a quiet intensity born of intelligence and accomplishment. Unmistakably sexy, she exudes a soft sensuality that is universally appealing.

Notes include: Aromatic Grappa, Georgian apricot, Damascus plum, and golden mandarin (top); rubrum lilies, Indian mango blossom, Egyptian jasmine, and Turkish rose attar (middle); oak moss, patchouli, tonka beans, and wild honey (base).

The feminine, sophisticated scent is available in several incarnations. The Parfum ($125) and Eau de Parfum ($70-92) are packaged in forms reminiscent of Italian grappa bottles. The Moisturizing Body Milk ($50) won’t hydrate parched skin, but will leave behind a delicate scent that’s wonderfully warm on its own, and perfect for layering.

varvatos+cleansing+oil John Varvatos For WomenMy favorite of the collection is the Cleansing Body Oil with Natural Exfoliating Grains ($58). The body cleanser is enriched with antioxidant vitamin E and jojoba oil to help nourish skin; and when you want to turn your shower into a spa, mix in some of the crushed granules to slough away dead skin.

John Varvatos is now available at Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom.

The Princess And The Peony

Peony is one of my favorite flowers (ranunculus and hydrangea are the others, if you must know) – so I suppose it’s fitting that my new beauty favorites are the peony-scented body products from Red Flower.

peonyWASH L The Princess And The PeonyThe Japanese Peony Cleansing Body Wash and Moisturizing Body Lotion soften and delicately fragrance skin with an essential oil blend of Bulgarian rose, lily-of-the-valley, lemon blossom, and Japanese peony.

And I love the fact that the brand’s cleansing body washes and moisturizing body lotions are created with pure flower extracts and nourishing botanicals – so the list of ingredients doesn’t leave me confused and tongue-tied.

Tea Time

A few weeks back, I attended the TotalBeauty.com launch event at Space NK in SoHo, NYC. My trip up from Philadelphia was, let’s put it this way, an adventure. So upon crossing the threshold into the store, I quickly downed two glasses of champagne and perused the inventory with my fellow beauty bloggers – shout out to Marina, Elke, Julia, and Antonia for putting me at ease and making me feel so welcome!

I was introduced to many new brands and products that night, but the one that I immediately regretted not buying was the Thai Tea Body Wash from Philip B. Seriously, I was on Amtrak riding back to Philly thinking, “Why didn’t I get that body wash? It smelled sooo yummy.” After a week of hemming and hawing, I broke down and decided I had to have it; and it’s been a fixture in my shower caddy ever since.

thaitea Tea TimeInspired by Philip B.’s journey through Asia, Thai Tea Body Wash is enriched with 20% pure botanical plant extracts indigenous to Thailand. Ingredients include Thai Tea (rich in antioxidants), honey (moisturizes), coconut oil (softens skin), milk proteins (gently exfoliates), peppermint (stimulates circulation), lemon grass (normalizes oil production), ginger root (soothes skin), and citronella (deodorizes and balances oil production).

The smell is sweet, yet invigorating (it reminds me of the spa) and is the perfect AM pick-me-up I need before starting my day. It foams well, and tingles a little on the skin – thanks to the peppermint oil.

At $40 (you can get it at Amazon.com for $35) it’s pricey; when I first saw the cost of the Thai Tea Body Wash, my eyes were as big as saucers…don’t ya just love my puns? But a little goes a long way, so don’t use a cup when a teaspoon will do (there I go again) and use a loofah to extend the life of the 12 oz. bottle.

This Line Takes The Cupcake!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve undoubtedly heard about Oprah’s Favorite Things of 2007 list. Though Oprah made some fine choices, I have one recommendation for the media mogul.

buttercream This Line Takes The Cupcake!
If I had a list, I’d call it ‘The D-List’ (original, I know) – and everything on it would be from Jaqua’s Buttercream Frosting line of products. I’ve been using the Buttercream Frosting Exfoliating Body Polish, Shower Crème, and Hand Crème for a couple of weeks, and my enthusiasm has not waned. In fact, my fondness grows stronger every day. Not only do the Buttercream Frosting products pamper my parched skin, they smell like heaven – a sweet tooth’s version of heaven, anyway.

jaqua This Line Takes The Cupcake!
Like vanilla frosting with a hint of fresh strawberries, Jaqua’s Buttercream Frosting products smell so much like the real thing, I have to remind myself that they’re not edibile. I can only hope that Jaqua is developing hair care, shaving cream, toothpaste, antiperspirant, and contact lens solution…so that every square inch of me can smell saccharinely sweet.

Spoiled Pretty tip: while you’re on the Jaqua website, sign up to become a Jaqua VIP (no purchase necessary, and it’s free). Be the first to find out about new Jaqua products, special discounts and best of all, freebie offers only available to Jaqua VIP members.
