Emmys 2009 Beauty: Ginnifer Goodwin

emmys+2009+ginnifer+goodwin+2 Emmys 2009 Beauty: Ginnifer GoodwinGinnifer Goodwin, star in the HBO series Big Love was pretty (and pixie) in purple at last night’s 2009 Emmy Awards.

mark celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh explains how she created Ginnifer’s gorgeous red carpet look.
“Ginnifer wore a beautiful, fuschia strapless dress, so we wanted to keep her look more neutral, but focused on her eyes. To get her look, I started by applying mark Face Xpert Flawless Touch Makeup in Buff with a foundation brush. I then applied mark Get Bright Hook Up Highlighter in Light above her cheekbones and mark Good Riddance Hook Up Highlighter in Fair/Light under her eyes. Once the foundation and creams were applied, I set everything by dusting mark Matte-Nificent in Buff/Natural with a powder brush. And finally, to give her a warm glow, I swept mark Good Glowing Mosaic Blush in Hush Baby on her cheeks using the blush/bronzer brush.”

“For her eyes, I started by applying mark Winkstick Hook Up Eyeshadow Stick in Glitzy to her entire eyelid. Next, I layered mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Tiki from her lash line to the crease using an eyeshadow brush. I then blended mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Espresso into the crease of her eyes using an angled contour eyeshadow brush and smudged Tiki along her bottom lash line using an eyeliner brush. I finished by applying two coats of mark Make it Big Lash Plumping Mascara in Raven.”

“I completed Ginnifer’s look by layering mark Dew Drenched Moisturlicous Lip Color in Skinny Dip and mark Pro Gloss Lip Plumping Lip Shine in Swell to her lips.”

Emmys 2009 Beauty: January Jones

emmys+2009+january+jones+2 Emmys 2009 Beauty: January JonesMark Townsend, Matrix’s celebrity stylist, helped Mad Men star January Jones get glam for the 2009 Emmy Awards. According to Townsend, “Working with January for any event is always going to be fun and inspiring.”

Mark was blown away with the detail and craftsmanship that went into making January’s stunning Versace gown. “While getting January ready, we had the dress hanging close by so I could see it while doing January’s hair, and that proved to be the inspiration for her overall look,” says Townsend, who loved all the lines and cut-outs of the dress, and wanted the hair to have the same feeling.

To get January’s hair from this glamorous event, Mark first sprayed Biolage Bodifying Spray Gel in her damp hair and blow dried it with a medium round brush. Then, he took sections of her hair pulled and pinned them back one at a time. January has shoulder length hair, so he needed to pull the hair back in sections because it is too short to pull it back all at the same time. Mark wanted the style to look like a textured chignon and by pinning sections at the back, he was able to achieve exactly that. He finished the chignon with Vavoom Shape Maker Hairspray to give the style some hold, and purposely let some hair fall loose around the front to catch the light and to give it more of a “fashion” look.

OK! Magazine Party Celebrates Kim Kardashian, New Contributing Beauty Editor

kim+kardashian+ok+launch+party OK! Magazine Party Celebrates Kim Kardashian, New Contributing Beauty EditorZipping between backstage at New York Fashion Week shows is always a treat, but the biggest thrill of my recent trip was OK! Magazine‘s star-studded fete (Perez Hilton and Kelly Rowland made cameos) to celebrate the addition of new Contributing Beauty Editor, Kim Kardashian.

I couldn’t believe my luck when the opportunity to attend presented itself, and I found myself shaking when Amber and I arrived at The Griffin at the exact moment Kim took her spot on the red carpet.

Kim looked resplendent in a Badgley Mischka gown. Her flawless face was the handiwork of her makeup artist, and my beauty buddy, Mario Dedivanovic.

Hairstylist Rolondo, who I interviewed the following day (stay tuned for that video), created a 40′s finger-waved do.

After Kim thanked the crowd, lady luck smiled on Amber and me, and we found a place to sit and Tweet our good fortune.

Amber and I (in my gorge Ann Taylor LBD) strike a pose

Midway through the party, as we noshed on mini pink cupcakes, the tragic news broke that the world had lost the incomparable Patrick Swayze. The DJ seamlessly transitioned from current jams into a Dirty Dancing medley. Though the shindig ended on a meloncholy note, I had the time of my life…and I owe it all to you oo oooo, Miss Kim.

Kim Kardashian Bids Bye Bye to Blonde & Unveils Darker Do

Tis the season for going back to your roots.

Yesterday, Tyra let her real hair down on the fifth season premiere of her daytime talk show. Not to be outdone, Kim Kardashian said bye bye to blonde and returned to her naturally dark do.

I have to admit that I saw this coming. The lighter locks were just okay, but she is ten times more stunning as a raven-haired beauty. Shake what Kris Jenner gave you, Kim!
