If You Have Hair, The Wet Brush is a Must Have

For years, I have used an oversized wide-tooth comb to detangle my notoriously impossible to detangle post-shampoo hair. The amount of hair that would get caught in the teeth was somewhat alarming. But I chalked it up to the fact that I only wash my hair once a week - so maybe the hair loss really wasn't all that CONTINUE READING

Anne Hathaway looked regal in a sparkling jewel encrusted Armani Privé gown. Her makeup look was sophisticated and elegant. Anne’s perfect brows framed her face and her long, lush lashes really made her eyes pop. She donned a deep berry-toned lip to complete her look.

anne hathaway academy awards 2009 Oscars 2009 Beauty: Anne HathawayTo get Anne’s look, try Lancôme Le Crayon Poudre in Sable to fill in and shape the brows. Lightly dust Lancôme Color Design Eye Shadow in Ciel du Soir over the entire eyelid followed by Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony applied to the upper lash line. Lightly smudge so there are no harsh lines. Apply several coats of Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara for a faux-lash effect.

For just a hint of color, dust Lancôme Blush Subtil in Sheer Amourose on the apples of the cheeks. To create her berry stained pout, apply Lancôme Color Fever Lipstick in Brickhouse.

Angelina Jolie looked stunning in a black strapless Elie Saab gown paired with beautiful emerald-colored jewels which added a striking burst of color. Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton created Angelina’s flawless look.

angelina and brad oscars 2009 Oscars 2009 Beauty: Angelina JolieMary applied Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony to the upper and lower lash lines. She emphasized the shape of Angelina’s eyes by applying more liner to the outer corners of the eye. Several coats of Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara were applied to the upper lashes for added volume and length. Mary put a touch of pink to the cheeks using Shu Uemura Blush in M Pink 31 and applied it to her cheekbones near the temple. To create ultra-shiny and luminous lips, Mary used Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling.

To achieve Angelina’s romantic cascade of curls, celebrity hairstylist David Babaii “sprayed Angie’s entire head with David Babaii for WildAid Bohemian Beach Spray and scrunched it into the hair (this gives just the right texture and hold).”

“Next, I dried her hair by dividing her tresses into 3 sections: top, sides and back leaving the nape area free. Taking small sections starting at the nape, I used the David Babaii for WildAid Blow Dryer with the nozzle attachment and finish the drying process with a large round brush to smooth hair straight. At the crown area, I sprayed David Babaii for WildAid Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier to the root area and down the hair shaft. Then, I dried this section with a jumbo round brush to add lift and volume.”

angelina jolie oscars 2009 hair Oscars 2009 Beauty: Angelina Jolie“Once dry, I sectioned the hair again using the same sectioning process as I did for blow drying. Using the David Babaii for WildAid Styling Iron, I once again sectioned the hair into 3 sections: top, sides and back leaving the nape area free. To curl, use the Styling Iron to create “ribbon curls” by taking small “V” shaped sections. To achieve, I wrapped the hair around and inside the styling iron close to the scalp area and pull the iron down (similar to curling ribbon).”

“After curling the entire head, I smoothed some of the curls with a brush while leaving some intact. At the crown area, I back-brushed the hair at the scalp area only, sprayed some additional Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier and gently smoothed the surface not to remove too much of the back-brushing. Next, to create her half-up, half down look, I brushed the sides up and back and secured with pins. To complete the back, I ran my fingers up several curls to create volume and variations in texture. For a long but natural lasting hold, I used David Babaii for WildAid Mise en Plis Light Styling Spray.”

Styling Tip: Why so much sectioning? It is vital to have constant control of your hair at all times. You will never miss an area or a section.

kate winslet academy awards 2009 Oscars 2009 Beauty: Kate WinsletAcademy Award winner Kate Winslet looked beautiful in a multi-toned one shoulder YSL dress. Celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey wanted to create a classic, natural look.

First, she prepped Kate’s skin with Lancôme La Base Pro primer to create a smooth canvas for a polished complexion. She lightly brushed Lancôme Brow Expert in Naturel on the brows to play up their natural shape.

Jillian Dempsey for Avon Pro Eyeshadow Trio in Ice Shimmer was applied to the eyes and the lashes were coated with Jillian Dempsey for Avon Pro Mascara in Black. To create a sheer, neutral colored lip, Lancôme Color Fever Lipstick in Old Flame was applied for a soft, matte finish.

Frederic Fekkai’s Renato Campora tended to the tresses of Kate Winslet. The inspiration was a modern day Grace Kelly that compliments her total look and silhouette; a wavy texture with a dynamic shape.

For the 2009 Oscars, hairstylist Julie Baker used FHI Heat hair tools to help create a very elegant, modern chignon for her longtime client Queen Latifah.

queen latifah academy awards 2009 Oscars 2009 Beauty: Queen Latifah“Latifah’s dress is very elegant, modern and chic, and her hair needs to complement this, so we decided on a modern chignon which features very smooth hair, a side part, bangs that swoop down in front, a low bun in the back that is off to the side,” said Baker.

To achieve this glamorous modern look, Baker dried Latifah’s hair using the new FHI Heat Nano Salon Pro 2000 blow dryer, then applied FHI Heat Hot Sauce (a heat-activated conditioner that protects hair) to slightly damp hair. Last, she used her favorite FHI Heat Runway styling iron to smooth out Latifah’s tresses, before styling it into a chignon.

For the 81st annual Academy Awards, makeup artist Rachel Goodwin dressed Diane Lane’s beautiful face in products from Chanel.

diane lane academy awards 2009 Oscars 2009 Beauty: Diane LaneBeauty Inspiration:
“The first thing I noticed when I saw Diane was her va va voom black dress! I wanted her makeup to be super sexy and stong, like she is. Because it was the Oscars, I focused on bumping up the eyes with lots of mascara and lashes, and sent her down the carpet glowing and gorgeous.”

Beauty Tips:
Rachel opened up Diane’s eyes with browns and taupes from the Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow in Demure. She created a sultry look with soft browns in the crease and a soft ivory on the lids up to the brow bone. The eyes were lined with an Elizabeth Arden smoky eye pencil, and several coats of Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Noir-Black gave her a dramatic, seductive look. To
give Diane’s skin a dewy, glowing look, Rachel applied Chanel Teint Innocence Naturally Luminous Fluid Makeup mixed with a bit of Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer. On the contours of the cheeks, she applied a peach cream blush from Jouer. Finally, to complete the strong, sexy look, Rachel gave Diane a bold orangey red lip with Chanel Hydrabase Lipstick in Fuego.
