Emmys 2009 Beauty: Mariska Hargitay

Emmy Awards 2009 Nominee Mariska Hargitay, star of Law & Order: SVU, accessorized her Carolina Herrera gown with OPI nail lacquers.

OPI celebrity manicurist Beth Fricke painted Mariska’s nails in St. Petersburgundy, a rich burgundy, topped with a splash of Can You Tapas This?, a yummy shade of raisin, to add a hint of darkness.

Beth also painted Mariska’s nails in Privacy Please, a sheer delicate pink, for her to wear to the Female Nominee Luncheon, as well as to the NBC Universal pre-Emmys party and the “Evening Before” event hosted by the Motion Picture & Television fund.

Emmys 2009 Beauty: Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Goodwin, star in the HBO series Big Love was pretty (and pixie) in purple at last night’s 2009 Emmy Awards.

mark celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh explains how she created Ginnifer’s gorgeous red carpet look.
“Ginnifer wore a beautiful, fuschia strapless dress, so we wanted to keep her look more neutral, but focused on her eyes. To get her look, I started by applying mark Face Xpert Flawless Touch Makeup in Buff with a foundation brush. I then applied mark Get Bright Hook Up Highlighter in Light above her cheekbones and mark Good Riddance Hook Up Highlighter in Fair/Light under her eyes. Once the foundation and creams were applied, I set everything by dusting mark Matte-Nificent in Buff/Natural with a powder brush. And finally, to give her a warm glow, I swept mark Good Glowing Mosaic Blush in Hush Baby on her cheeks using the blush/bronzer brush.”

“For her eyes, I started by applying mark Winkstick Hook Up Eyeshadow Stick in Glitzy to her entire eyelid. Next, I layered mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Tiki from her lash line to the crease using an eyeshadow brush. I then blended mark I-Mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Espresso into the crease of her eyes using an angled contour eyeshadow brush and smudged Tiki along her bottom lash line using an eyeliner brush. I finished by applying two coats of mark Make it Big Lash Plumping Mascara in Raven.”

“I completed Ginnifer’s look by layering mark Dew Drenched Moisturlicous Lip Color in Skinny Dip and mark Pro Gloss Lip Plumping Lip Shine in Swell to her lips.”

Emmys 2009 Beauty: January Jones

Mark Townsend, Matrix’s celebrity stylist, helped Mad Men star January Jones get glam for the 2009 Emmy Awards. According to Townsend, “Working with January for any event is always going to be fun and inspiring.”

Mark was blown away with the detail and craftsmanship that went into making January’s stunning Versace gown. “While getting January ready, we had the dress hanging close by so I could see it while doing January’s hair, and that proved to be the inspiration for her overall look,” says Townsend, who loved all the lines and cut-outs of the dress, and wanted the hair to have the same feeling.

To get January’s hair from this glamorous event, Mark first sprayed Biolage Bodifying Spray Gel in her damp hair and blow dried it with a medium round brush. Then, he took sections of her hair pulled and pinned them back one at a time. January has shoulder length hair, so he needed to pull the hair back in sections because it is too short to pull it back all at the same time. Mark wanted the style to look like a textured chignon and by pinning sections at the back, he was able to achieve exactly that. He finished the chignon with Vavoom Shape Maker Hairspray to give the style some hold, and purposely let some hair fall loose around the front to catch the light and to give it more of a “fashion” look.
