After I got my hair (Warren Tricomi) and makeup (Smashbox) done at the Fashion Week Daily Suite, I headed over to Bryant Park to drink coffee and people watch. Imagine my surprise when I spotted Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth emerging from the Promenade within minutes of each other.
Nicole’s hair really is to die for…the cameras don’t lie. And Kate graciously posed for pictures as a thousand and one photogs shouted her name and blinded her with flashes.
Unfortunately, while I had my head on a swivel, I didn’t have my camera at the ready. Hopefully, these won’t be the last star sightings at New York Fashion Week, Fall 2009.
Before they departed for their next fabulous destination, we snapped some pics and asked them about their favorite MAC products.
Joy, who wore no makeup (and was ridiculously gorgeous despite the fact) dished that she can’t live without MAC’s Ruby Woo Lipstick. She says that it’s the only lipstick she ever wears…and she’s running low. Do you hear that, MAC?
Santogold, who is so contagiously vivacious and funky fun, said that she wears MAC Glitter in Reflects Antique Gold. In fact, she puts it on before every show.
“Often clients make requests,” says makeup artist Sam Fine. “Last night, Queen had one request: she wanted to look natural with wonderful skin, sparse lashes and a great brow. Most of the time was spent perfecting the canvas.”
Want to get Queen Latifah’s natural look? Here’s how…
Use a cream foundation to give skin a supple, flawless complexion. Next, apply a bit of powder to the t-zone only. This allows the outer perimeter of the skin to glow naturally. Layer on bronzer to add a glow, then follow with a bit of blush on the apples of the cheek. “Since Queen was wearing a strapless dress, I applied a thin layer of moisturizer to her shoulders and collar bone. Then I dusted on some bronzer to make draw a bit of attention and make them shimmer,” says Sam.

Apply a small amount of highlighter to underneath the brow bone. Then use the same bronzer as a shadow and sweep it lightly across the eyelids. Use a smokey black pencil liner to line the upper lid and then smudge it with a deep ebony shadow. Apply a few coats of mascara. “I used barely any eyeshadow when creating this look. Very less is more,” advises Sam. ” An alternative to the deep ebony shadow could be a dark navy. As always when creating an eye for an awards show or event, don’t forget your false lashes.”
Line the lips with a liner that is one shade darker than your natural color. Then apply a matching shimmering lip gloss on top. Voila! “The lips were extremely nude to compliment the rest of the classic look,” says Sam.
How many makeup bags are so gorge that you could carry them as an evening clutch and be the chicest gal in the room? Not many…and I would wager that most of them come courtesy of Felix Rey, a sophisticated and ultra-feminine luxury brand of accessories founded by Lily Rafii Band and Sulaika Zarrouk.
Seriously, I wouldn’t hesitate to pair Felix Rey’s Emma Zip-Top Cosmetics Case with a sexy LBD. And if it accompanied me to a partay, it wouldn’t leave my clutches for a minute – because it’s so stylish that some sticky-fingered fashionista would snatch it up in a hot second.
I’ve been in a torrid love affair with Felix Rey for some time now. They always keep the relationship exciting and fresh, thanks to their assortment of posh purses, totes, makeup bags, wallets, umbrellas and accessories. And I’m not the only one who’s in love. Felix Rey is oft on the arm of celebs – including Leighton Meester, Hayden Panetierre, and Fergie. Penelope Cruz is equally enamored; at the SAG Awards, she accessorized her Azzedine Alaia gown with their Lola Clutch.
In celebration of Valentine’s Day, I’m going to share my love of Felix Rey with you. Two readers will win the Emma Zip Top Cosmetic Case (in Medium). What’s Kim Kardashain’s favorite styling cream? She loves Ojon Animated Styling Cream.
“It increases hair volume, adds separation and texture, boosts moisture and shine, and it’s non-greasy. I use it when my hair is down and I’m wearing a sleeker look. It’s also the perfect cream to use in a pony tail when you want it slicked back but not that oily-greasy look. You guys should try it!”
