Because Shaving is the Pits: DERMAdoctor Gorilla Warfare Antiperspirant Giveaway!

My hair grows like a weed. Unfortunately, the hair of which I speak is not on my head. My legs and underarms give my razor a workout. If I shave in the morning, by afternoon, I've got stubble. And forget about skipping days...unless I want to look like Sasquatch. Getting rid of the hair is not only expensive (I CONTINUE READING

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: BlowPro Perfect Shower Cap

The shower and my chemically-straightened hair are frenemies. Every seventh day when I wash my hair, they get along great in a shampoo Shangri-la. But the rest of the week, I employ a shower cap to keep the steam from undoing the silky straightness. I have been wearing shower caps since I was a child, and I’ve tried them CONTINUE READING

Get Catty With Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses

I've been searching for some cat eye sunnies for forever. On a whim, I bought these Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses from Shopbop - hoping that they wouldn't look too cartoonish. Even though I was afraid they'd be too large, I'm digging the oversized frames. They make a statement without overwhelming my face. And the cat eye shape is subtle, so it's not CONTINUE READING

Peep My Polish: Revlon Top Speed Nail Enamel in Superstitious

Now that I have two kids - and the youngest being 6 weeks old - I needed to get better acquainted with quick-dry nail polish options. I hardly have time to do anything, let alone a DIY - so I needed to find some lacquers that fit my new lifestyle. Yesterday, while going my grocery shopping, I picked up Revlon CONTINUE READING

Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING

The Great Debater And A Case of Unfortunate Base

A friend just forwarded me the following photos from The Great Debaters Premiere.

great+debaters The Great Debater And A Case of Unfortunate Base
In the first picture, Jurnee Smollett shows that while she may be young and a new face to some, she is wise beyond her years and plans on making an impression. Her makeup is, in a word, flawless. The smoky eye and coral blush are expertly balanced by her nude, glossy lip. There’s no debating the perfection of this look.

At the other end of the spectrum is Kimberly Elise, who is actually a very pretty woman – when she’s not wearing clown makeup. In this photo, she is the epitome of how awful it looks when you don’t take the time to properly match your base to your complexion (check out her hairline). Her bare face would have been a better choice than the chalky foundation she’s wearing. Let this be a lesson to us all.

Kim Vo: Smilin’ And Hairstylin’

kim vo Kim Vo: Smilin And Hairstylin
I so enjoy when Kim Vo makes an appearance on The Daily 10 on E! He’s forever smiling, and always has some easy-to-follow hair care tips to share. Last night, Vo said the unthinkable. He insisted that women with fine hair should only wash their hair every 2-3 days; and thick-tressed ladies should go a week between shampoos. Quel horror!

He explained that shampooing strips the hair of its natural oils – which leads to dryness, damage, and one bad hair day followed by another. For fine, straight hair, the oils take a shorter time to travel from the scalp to the ends – which is why he recommends shampooing more frequently than those with thick hair.

julia Kim Vo: Smilin And HairstylinThink infrequent shampooing is nasty and unhygienic? Think again, because it’s the secret behind some of Hollywood’s hottest hair. Julia Roberts was once quoted as saying, “My hair doesn’t get greasy very fast, so I can go a good ten days without washing it.”

In between shampoos, Vo recommends two ways to get rid of the greasies. First, fine-haired females can lightly mist their hair with an aerosol spray; because the alcohol is a little drying, it will sop up some of the excess oil.

Starlet Kabuki Kim Vo: Smilin And HairstylinAnd all ladies, regardless of hair type, can benefit from a light application of face powder. Match the powder to your scalp…just part hair and apply with a kabuki brush (I heart this one by Starlet Cosmetics).

And when you do get around to washing your hair, shampoo twice. The first time removes build-up, while the second go-round actually cleanses the hair and scalp. When it comes time to condition, take a cue from your hair type. For fine hair, apply conditioner just on the ends – and for thick hair, apply all over.

Back To Black?

amy winehouse Back To Black?
Amy Winehouse debuted a new blonde do earlier today. She’s pretty impulsive, so I don’t expect this look to last…she’ll be back to black in no time.

I am loving her Johnny Depp ‘Cry Baby’ tee, though.

No Golden Globes Means No Red Carpet

gg2 No Golden Globes Means No Red Carpet
Roll up the red carpet…the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced yesterday that the 65th Annual Golden Globes are cancelled. Instead, the winners will be revealed during a mind-numbingly boring, hour-long press conference – covered live by NBC News beginning at 6:00 pm PST on January 13.

gg No Golden Globes Means No Red CarpetFaced with the reality of nominees’ nonattendance and mobs of picketing writers outside of the The Beverly Hilton’s International Ballroom, the HFPA had no choice but to pull the proverbial plug on the awards show. So no red carpet, swag bags, obligatory ‘kiss the award’ photo ops, or swanky after-parties this year. Which also means no E! Fashion Police recaps re-played ten times a day for a month following the ceremony.

While I applaud the actors’ solidarity with the Writers Guild of America, I’m bummed that the pomp and circumstance has been stripped away, and replaced with a clinical reading of winners’ names. I wanted to see some purty dresses and Spring makeup trends…how about you?

And you know that there are some ticked off nominees, wondering why their year was the year of the strike. I wonder if they’ll just chill out at home, pop some Paul Newman, and celebrate with close friends and family. Or maybe George Clooney will send out an Evite or post a message on his Myspace page, and everyone will head over there.

rumer willis No Golden Globes Means No Red CarpetBut you know who’s probably the pissiest about this whole mess? Miss Golden Globes 2008, herself – Rumer Willis. That girl just can’t catch a break.

All I know is that they’d better settle this nonsense by the time the Oscars roll around. I’m not playin’.

Don’t lump Rihanna in with the all those celebs knocking off the ‘Pob’ (Victoria Beckham’s ubiquitous hairstyle).

af3 Rihanna Inspired By Charlize, Not PoshIn the January issue of Allure, the R&B star reveals that her edgy ‘do was actually inspired by Charlize Theron’s haircut in the action film Aeon Flux. Without getting permission from her record label, she “asked hairstylist Ursula Stephen to chop off her hair and dye it raven black in her L.A. hotel room.”
