Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING

When I entered the store, I was greeted my a really nice saleswoman who asked me what I was CONTINUE READING

runway Pretty Fashtastic Giveaway!!!
For the past week, I’ve been talking your ear off (well, writing your eyes off) about my recent trip to New York Fashion Week…tales of interviewing Bobbi Brown, watching Oscar Blandi work his magic, hanging with hipster muse, Cory Kennedy, and generally living the glamorous life.

How rude of me! I know you want to hear the deets. But, damn…do I have to be so boastful about it?

Well, before you put me on blast for being such a braggart – check it. In between shows and hobnobbing with the movers and shakers, I’ve been working on something pretty fashtastic. So in honor of my little trip to the Big Apple, I’m hosting a giveaway inspired by the marriage of fashion and beauty!!!

One lucky broad will win a sampling of Urban Decay’s fabulous fall 2008 collection. She will receive:

Urban+Decay+Lipstick Pretty Fashtastic Giveaway!!!
Three Lipsticks (winner’s choice)
From crimson red and exotic fuchsias, to cotton candy pink and shimmering nudes, these wearable, but unusual shades will enrapture beauty junkies everywhere. The creamy formula nourishes and protects lips with vitamins A, C, and E and is infused with a crème-caramel scent and flavor. And the lipstick tubes, made from weighty, purple metal, are pierced with a mini gunmetal dagger. The clear cap is decorated inside and out with two-toned purple flourishes. The effect is multidimensional, and incredibly luxe.

 Pretty Fashtastic Giveaway!!!
Two 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencils (winner’s choice)
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils are best-sellers year after year. And now, their long-wearing, cult-status formula is available in Lip Pencils! The waterproof pencils contain jojoba oil, vitamin E, and cottonseed oil to nourish the skin and provide a smooth application. making them the perfect complement to Urban Decay lipsticks, stains, and glosses.

Urban+Decay+Concealer Pretty Fashtastic Giveaway!!!
One 24/7 Concealer Pencil (winner’s choice)
Hide dark circles and blemishes with this creamy formula that dries matte and stays put. Full of vitamin E, 24/7 Concealer also contains a new ingredient called Microsponge—its empty spheres absorb excess oil preventing further breakouts and clogged pores.

Urban+Decay+Grind+House Pretty Fashtastic Giveaway!!!
One Grind House Pencil Sharpener
This premium quality, dual-chambered sharpener is the ultimate accoutrement to your beauty arsenal. Grind House is designed to work with the entire 24/7 family: the slim-line hole fits Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye and Lip Pencils, and the large hole fits thick-barreled 24/7 Concealer.

Electric Pretty Fashtastic Giveaway!!!
Two Matte Eyeshadows (winner’s choice)
This fall, Urban Decay adds three new additions to their collection of Matte Eyeshadows—Electric (electric blue), Shakedown (medium brown), and Heist (neutral taupe). Pigment-rich with an ultra-soft, velvety texture, these shadows have intense color payoff and blend beautifully.

Two runners-up win one Lipstick, one 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil and one 24/7 Concealer Pencil.

Thread Beauty Bar Giveaway!

thread+beauty+bar Thread Beauty Bar Giveaway!
A few months ago, my mom told me that she and my sister had gone to get their eyebrows threaded at this kiosk in the King of Prussia Mall. I had been dying to jump on the threading bandwagon, but didn’t really imagine my first foray into this ancient art of hair removal going down in the middle of a congested shopping center. I mean, no one needs to know about my moustache maintenance. I exaggerate, but you get my point. So at the end of my mother’s threading kiosk narrative, she tells me that, while standing in line, she met a woman with the most amazing eyebrows. “Did she get them done at the kiosk?” I breathlessly asked. My mom said no, that she had just opened her own day spa downtown. As is usually the case with Mama Spoiled Pretty, she couldn’t recall the pertinent details, like the name of the spa or the location. But she remembered the woman’s name…Dara. So I started sleuthing and soon solved the mystery.

For forever, if you were a phillie from Philly who wanted her arches threaded, it used to entail a trip to New York. And for years, Dara King made the 100 mile trip to maintain her enviable eyebrows. Weary of making the trek, this former Temple University business student hatched a plan for Philadelphia to catch up to her trend-setting big sis, NYC. Not only would she open a threading salon, she would become proficient in this art – and teach every one of the technicians who worked there. She would add manis/pedis, facials, and makeup application to the menu of services – using a range of botanically-based products. And as the icing on the proverbial cake, forget about scheduling a treatment in advance…because appointments aren’t necessary.

So thanks to Dara and her entrepreneurial vision, we Philly girls can save ourselves a trip on NJ Transit, Amtrak, or the Chinatown bus – because Thread Beauty Bar is right in our backyard!

Thread Beauty Bar, located at 1903 Chestnut Street, opened to rave reviews this spring…so on my lunch break one day, I walked on over to see what all the hype was about. The spa isn’t the easiest to find; the entrance to the 2nd floor walk-up is a little obscure. But once you ascend the stairs to this modern and spacious beauty oasis – you’ll fall in love with this hidden gem.

Even without an appointment, I waited less than ten minutes. My eyebrow shaping and upper lip threading took less than five. And, here’s the kicker – it only cost $20!

If you’ve never been threaded or haven’t seen how it’s done – here’s a crash course:

threading Thread Beauty Bar Giveaway!The process involves a piece of thread, and the ends are knotted together to make a circle. The thread is then twisted to form the shape of a bow tie and glided along the skin. As the unwanted hair comes in to the twist of the thread, it is lifted straight from the roots. Threading is an all natural method of hair removal and far superior to waxing because it doesn’t necessitate the use of nasty chemicals, which can burn and irritate skin. It’s also more precise than waxing, and you’d be amazed at how a simple piece of thread can result in such expertly shaped brows.

The sensation is beyond words…I can’t even begin to articulate. Oddly fascinating is the only way I can describe it. I’ve been waxed a ka-trillion times, so that process (and the pain that accompanies it) is old hat for me. And in the discomfort category, threading beats waxing every time. It’s a TKO. I wouldn’t even describe the feeling as pain…and it’s over so quickly that even big babies will be able to bite the bullet.

Thread Beauty Bar is open late (check the website for days and hours of operation) – so even after the hour strikes 7pm and Rittenhouse boutiques kick your shopaholic ass out, you can walk down the street and get prettified. And for parties of six or more, Thread offers birthday, bachelorette, bridal, girls night out, and corporate parties.

Because I can’t keep a good thing to myself, Spoiled Pretty is partnering with Thread Beauty Bar for a giveaway! If you live in the Greater Philadelphia area, enter to win a $50 gift card to Thread Beauty Bar.

To enter, send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name. The subject line should read “Thread Giveaway.” The contest ends at midnight (EST) on Friday, September 12th. One winner will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Saturday, September 13th, I’ll announce the winner’s name. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning.

Good luck!

gossip+girl Gossip Girl Giveaway!!!
Bonjour, my pretties. Long time, no blog. Miss me?

After spending the holiday weekend in Seattle, I made it back to Philly just in time for the highly anticipated season premiere of Gossip Girl. The newest eppy “Summer, Kind of Wonderful” delivered the drama, picking right up where season one left off.

If you’re a fan of Gossip Girl, you understand that it’s more than just a television show. It’s a study in style…an Elle editorial personified. The series has some serious fashion cred, as evidenced by its guest appearances. Tonight’s episode featured Tinsley Mortimer (who made a cameo at the white party) and Michael Kors, who will guest in a fashion week-themed episode.

Last week’s giveaway fell through at the last minute…and I feel so awful about it that I pulled out all the stops, this time around. So this week, I’m spoiling you, Gossip Girl style…

Spotted: D hosting a giveaway at SP, in honor of the GG season two premiere!!!

Colette+Malouf+Edie+HB Gossip Girl Giveaway!!!Two lucky readers will each win two haute headbands, courtesy of Colette Malouf, dubbed the “undisputed queen of hair accessories” by New York Magazine.

Her name might not ring a bell, but there’s a good chance you’ve seen her work on Sex and The City, on the runways of Michael Kors and Derek Lam, and on the likes of Oprah, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway.

Colette+Malouf+Linen+HB Gossip Girl Giveaway!!!The winners will channel their inner queen bees with Colette’s artistic accessories. The Grosgrain Edie Headband (top left) suits Blair, the preppy Park Avenue princess. Steal Serena’s Upper East Side style with the Linen Open Work Headband (bottom left).

Relive the wit, romance, drama, mystery and scandal of season one with this 5-disc, 18-episode set of DVDs that also features:

* Gossip Girl 411 Featurette
* GG Couture Featurette
* A Gossip Girl Wedding Featurette
* Music Videos
* Gag Reel
* FREE downloadable audiobook of Cecily von Ziegesar’s bestselling novel, narrated by Christina Ricci!

To enter, send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name. The subject line should read “Gossip Girl Giveaway.” The contest ends at midnight (EST) on Sunday, September 7th. Two winners will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Monday, September 8th, I’ll announce the winners’ names. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning.
