WHY: The modern pinup represents hope, beauty, and sex appeal in a fresh, new way. She is an unapologetic, independent woman who is passionate about going after what she wants. While long, sultry lashes coupled with vibrant, red lips are the essence of pinup glamour, Touch of Blush specializes in unleashing the inner beauty of modern women of all styles and personalities. Arcadia Boutique offers unique, eco-chic clothing for the “everyday pinups” who seek comfort while still maintaining their sense of style and feminine sex appeal. Finally, the Good Vibrations exhibit captures the tensions between the old and the new by incorporating images of sultry, vintage pinups with elements of recent history.
This April, Burt’s Bees celebrates 40 years of Earth Day with a nod to none other than their namesake and co-founder, Burt Shavitz. Burt is no newcomer to the green arena: The beard and spirit behind the earth-friendly company participated in the first Earth Day celebration four decades agoand has been living lightly on the planet ever since. Burt has brought his love and respect for the natural world into the everyday practices of Burt’s Bees for 25 years, and now he’s encouraging New York locals to “Find Their Burt” by discovering the earth-friendly potential we all share.
On April 22nd, 2010, Burt look-alikes will take to the streets of New York, handing out samples and urging folks to be as eco-friendly as Burt in honor of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Passing out free “Burt” beards and hats, the Burt look-alikes will help transform the crowds into “Burts” themselves. Look for them near Rockefeller Center and in Central Park.
Burt’s Bees will also be offering people-powered natural smoothies at a “Bike Blender” station in Times Square, where visitors can stop by and enjoy a smoothie featuring natural ingredients like milk, honey, pomegranate, and cranberry (some of the same natural ingredients you’ll find in Burt’s Bees® products). The pedaling action actually powers the blender, creating a wholesome natural treat with clean energy. This event will be part of Earth Day NY.
Everyone is encouraged to continue the search for their inner Burt at home by visiting FindYourBurt.com. The website invites you into Burt’s worldand asks you to discover for yourself pieces of Burt’s simple, nature-loving persona when you “Burtify” your image using an augmented reality tool. The real-time tool modifies elements of Burt on your image based on your eco-motives. The Burt possibilities are endless and so are the ways to love the Earth. This April, visit FindYourBurt.com to learn more about how Burt’s Bees is living The Greater Good™ and discover your own inner (and outer) Burt.

Earlier this month, when I was in New York for Fashion Week, I got my hair did at Red Door Spas Blogger Lounge at the W Hotel in Times Square. My friend (and Fashion Week roomie, above), Lianne, partnered with Red Door Spas to create space where bloggers could stop – between shows, meetings and events – and relax, recharge (phones too) and get all gussied up.
Thanks to Zahir Zihani, Creative Director of the Red Door Spas, and his team (including the adorable and amazingly talented Billy Dee Williams, who did my hair), every gal left there with head-turning hair. Forget reporting from backstage…we looked like we were ready to sashay down the runway.

If you’re looking for the Chris Benz Chris & Tell lipstick, here’s one of your last chances to get it. Chris is doing a personal appearance at the Saks Fifth Avenue Lancôme counter in Manhattan tomorrow. He’ll be signing lipsticks and sharing the inspiration for his Spring 2010 collection. Saks is the official retailer for Chris & Tell and this is one of the only counters that has any lipsticks left.
Chris & Tell was created specifically for the Chris Benz Spring 2010 Fashion Week presentation held in September 2009. Since its debut earlier this month, it has become one of the fastest-selling lipsticks in the Lancôme Pout-à-Porter designer lipstick series. Six hundred of the lipsticks sold on lancome-usa.com in just 48 hours. Beauty aficionados have already snatched up most of the supply and some have already popped up on eBay.
Chris is also happy to sign previously purchased lipsticks…so if you already have a Chris & Tell, feel free to stop by. Joining Chris will be makeup artist extraordinaire Daniel Martin, co-creator of the gorgeous peachy coral lipstick, the Lancôme team and some of his favorite models, who will be wearing the clothing and the makeup look from the Spring show.
