Beautiful Things My Mother Taught Me

Mom and me, circa 1979 Disclosure: This post is sponsored by CoverGirl. Mother’s Day is this Sunday and I’m so excited. Not just because Mr. Spoiled Pretty and my son, Westley, are treating me to a decadent brunch. But because it’s an opportunity to celebrate my hero, Andrea Stamps. I must admit that until two years ago, Mother’s Day was just another CONTINUE READING

Bath & Body Works 3-Wick Candles: 2 for $22

At Christmastime, I agonized over what to get my son's daycare teachers. There are 12 of them - and even though he has his two main teachers, they all have interaction with him and take excellent care of him. So I needed to buy 12 gifts to show my appreciation, without breaking the bank. $10 each seemed doable, except CONTINUE READING

IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Creme SPF 15

As a beauty expert, I’m embarrassed by how late I am to the BB Cream party. In the past year, so many friends and colleagues have asked me about BB Creams—what’s the buzz, which brands are the best, etc. —and they would look at me funny when I admitted to not having tried BB Creams yet. I mean, they CONTINUE READING

CoverGirl Outlast Brilliant Shine Nail Gloss in Vio-last

I’m very fickle about my fingernails. Before I paint my nails or get them professionally did, I spend a inordinate amount of time pondering my polish options. I consider the season, recent trends, my wardrobe that week and anywhere special I might go. But despite all of this planning, I’m usually over my polish choice before it even dries. My New Arm Candy: Rebecca Minkoff Swing Bag

After beauty products, handbags are my secondary addiction. But when it comes to arm candy, I have discriminating taste. For me, the perfect handbag seamlessly marries fashion with function, is handcrafted from high-quality materials, has really unique hardware and is classic but edgy - all at the same time. I don't like to carry the of-the-moment "it" bag. I CONTINUE READING

MAC and Hello Kitty In The Big City

hello+kitty+collection MAC and Hello Kitty In The Big City

As you’ve probably heard, MAC Cosmetics has teamed up with the international pop culture phenomenon Hello Kitty, to create a color story that takes its cue from both the fantastical world of Hello Kitty and the glamorous fashion scene.

Somewhere between a coy girl and sexy siren, MAC Hello Kitty represents the desire in all of us to be both innocent and mischievous. More Angelina Jolie than Shirley Temple, the feisty new color collection takes its inspiration from the complex, yet elegantly feminine sensibility.

In celebration of the partnership, MAC has taken it to the stylish next level and tapped into its fashion reservoir of friends and assembled a team of 30 internationally renowned designers, to create one-of-a-kind pieces that are inspired by the Hello Kitty collection.

MAC and Hello Kitty In The Big CityMAC asked designers to work within the color palette of the Hello Kitty collection of black, grey, white and pink and posed the question, “What would MAC Hello Kitty wear if she were a fashionista?” Designers were given creative freedom to create pieces in their own aesthetic and on February 5th in New York, MAC unveiled the exclusive designs to the world with a global Hello Kitty cocktail party and fashion exhibit showcasing the ensembles.

It was MAC Hello Kitty Commotion! My bestie, Amber, was in attendance. Click here to get the inside scoop (and see a pic of her encounter with a certain celeb from MTV’s The City).

The MAC Hello Kitty fashion designer team includes the very talented; Blugirl, Catherine Malandrino, Charlotte Ronson, Dress33, Elie Saab, Emanuel Ungaro, General Idea – Bum Suk Choi, Giles, Hervé Léger by Max Azria, Kai Kühne, Kate Sylvester, Katy England, Manish Arora, Marchesa, Miro, Opening Ceremony, Qiu Hao, Rosa Cha, Ruffian, Sang Beg Ha, Shu-Chi Huang, Sinha Stanic, Tadashi Shoji, The Blonds, threeasFOUR, Vicente Villarin, Yigal Azrouel, Zac Posen, and Zimmermann.

MAC and Hello Kitty In The Big City

The MAC Hello Kitty designs will be auctioned off on eBay, with all proceeds benefiting The Museum at The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York. On Monday February 9, 2009 at 10:00pm EST, the MAC Hello Kitty charity auction will go live on eBay. To bid on these exclusive designer creations, please visit ebay.com/machellokitty. Bidding will be open internationally and will remain live for ten days. Payment will be accepted through major credit cards only, via PayPal. The auction will close on February 19, 2009 at the same time it began.

The MAC Hello Kitty color and accessory collection will launch on February 12, 2009.

Superbowl Spa Day at Bliss

On Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers will meet in Tampa Bay for Superbowl XLIII.

If you’re a fan of either team, you could wear your team pride on your fingernails – with fun nail decals like these. Or you could take a page from this uber-fan’s playbook – and take the “tramp stamp” to a whole nuther level.

Classy.

If you’re bitter – like me – because your team won’t play on Sunday (my Philadelphia Eagles choked in the NFC Championship Game*) or don’t give a kitty about football at all, Bliss has some great alternative activities planned

*Though I’m upset that my Eagles won’t represent in Sunday’s game, I still have much love for: Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook and Brian Dawkins. I ain’t mad at ya, boys!
