Get Catty With Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses

I've been searching for some cat eye sunnies for forever. On a whim, I bought these Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses from Shopbop - hoping that they wouldn't look too cartoonish. Even though I was afraid they'd be too large, I'm digging the oversized frames. They make a statement without overwhelming my face. And the cat eye shape is subtle, so it's not CONTINUE READING

Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING

Anew, I Think I Love You

Avon Anew Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion System Anew, I Think I Love YouIf you’ve been visiting Spoiled Pretty for any length of time, you know that I am an exfoliating fool. With all of the buffing and scrubbing I do, it’s a major miracle I don’t look like the Crypt Keeper by now. When it comes to exfoliation, I’m like an archeologist with ADD, relentlessly digging for buried treasure. And I’m not satisfied until my flaky façade is polished baby butt smooth.

I’ve tested an excessive amount of exfoliants, so it takes a serious scrub to even get my attention. But I recently tried a product so mind-blowing that it has my undivided attention. Avon’s Anew Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion is so rocking my world right now, I can’t even stand it.

Anew Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion is a skin system that delivers varied levels of exfoliation. The dual-barrel bottle is topped with a dial that allows you to increase the intensity of the micro-crystal formula, offering multiple strength polishing in one package.

To use, you simply apply to clean, wet skin. Starting with Level 1, use Anew Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion 2–3 times a week for 2 weeks before proceeding to the next level. After completing all 4 levels (8 weeks) stop using for 2 to 3 weeks and then start over at Level 1.

I noticed a dramatic improvement in my skin after just one use, and you know how much I enjoy immediate results. I used it before a date night dinner with Mr. Spoiled Pretty and let me tell you…my moisturizer and foundation melted onto my skin like buttah.

This is an ideal product for anyone with dry skin, rough skin texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone and dark age spots.

Avon Anew Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion gets two very enthusiastic thumbs up. If you’re like me and like to scrub a dub dub it up, you must purchase this product – no ifs, ands or baby butts about it.

The Body Electric: Clarisonic’s New Plus Skin Care System & Spot Therapy Kit

clarisonic+plus+skin+care+system+and+spot+therapy+kit The Body Electric: Clarisonics New Plus Skin Care System & Spot Therapy Kit
Your body may not be a wonderland yet…but wait until you get your mitts on the new Clarisonic Plus Skin Care System & Spot Therapy Kit.

This enhanced Clarisonic Plus system has a third speed, along with a new Spot Therapy Brush Head for the body. Sonic frequency moves Clarisonic’s soft, gentle brush back and forth at more than 300 times per second to clear pores – loosening dirt, makeup, and oil.

Clarisonic is proven to remove more dirt (sebum and makeup) than traditional, superficial cleansing, allowing your serums and moisturizers to absorb better. Skin is left soft and pampered without harsh abrasion or chemicals. Clarisonic reduces dry skin patches, oily areas, and blemishes and removes 6 times more makeup than traditional cleansing. Pore size, fine lines, and wrinkles appear smaller.

The Clarisonic Spot Therapy Brush Head takes sonic cleansing beyond the face to gently cleanse and exfoliate; smooth rough, dry patches; and prepare the skin to better absorb skincare products. It is ideal for use on the décolleté, hands, arms, elbows, and feet.

Enhance your results with the complementary Refining Skin Polish for the body; this intensive, 3-tier refining solution exfoliates, firms, and smoothes the skin, delivering radiant, silky-soft results.

Clarisonic Plus Skin Care System & Spot Therapy Kit contains:

* Clarisonic Plus three-speed brush
* International charging cradle for worldwide use
* Sensitive brush head
* 3x trial-size facial cleansers
* Spot therapy brush head (for the body)
* Trial-size refining skin polish (for the body)

This kit is available starting today, and is a Sephora exclusive.

Olay Body Wash Plus Stage Five Clingers

olay+body+wash+plus+spa+exfoliating+ribbons Olay Body Wash Plus Stage Five Clingers
A few months ago, Marie Claire named Olay Body Wash plus Spa Exfoliating Ribbons as one of the ’25 Beauty Products That Will Change Your Life.’ I really enjoy Marie Claire and typically trust their reviews, but this was straight up hyperbole.

Olay Body Wash plus Spa Exfoliating Ribbons isn’t the worst body wash that I’ve ever tried, but it by no means changed my life. The creamy lather foams up nicely and feels silky on skin. The ocean-y fragrance is pleasant, and subtly lingers. But, unfortunately, the scent isn’t the only thing that likes to stick around.

smurfette Olay Body Wash Plus Stage Five ClingersThe microbeads don’t dissolve, like you might expect them to. Rather, they cling to your skin…so when you’re rinsing clean, you need to check (and double-check) yourself to make sure the blue beads aren’t hiding anywhere. And be prepared for your shower/tub to look like Smurfette just got done exfoliating in there instead of you.

There are plenty of better body washes on the market, so I can’t recommend this one. Even though it costs less than $6, I still expect to be impressed. Yes, Olay Body Wash plus Spa Exfoliating Ribbons cleanses skin and gently buffs skin. But, then again, so does a bar of Dove soap and a washcloth…and this combo won’t leave stage five clingers littering your shower floor.

90s Ladies Week: What’s Up, Doc?

doc+martens 90s Ladies Week: Whats Up, Doc?
In the early to mid 1990s, Doc Martens were the nirvana of cool. And I, like many, fell under the spell of the chunky-soled boots with the distinctive yellow stitching. I begged my parents to buy me a pair of Doc Martens – or as my mother called them, “those ugly doctor shoes.” But they refused, wondering why I would want to appear as if I was moonlighting as a construction worker. Eventually, I forgave my parents for depriving me of Doc Martens – once I realized how truly ridiculous I would have looked tromping around in them. Then ironically, in the late 90s, my mom bought me a pair of Doc Marten sandals she found on sale at Daffy’s. So I did eventually become cool – just, like, four years too late.

It’s 2008 now, and I’ve got heart palpitations over another doctor. While rooting around on my mom’s vanity a few weeks ago, I discovered an unopened jar of Dr. Brandt’s Microdermabrasion For Face. When I asked where and when she bought it, she couldn’t remember. Who does that? Who randomly buys beauty products then forgets about them? Unbelievable. I mean, sometimes I wonder how this woman and I can possibly be related. Anyway, so I asked politely to sample and she obliged. What happened next was a thing of myth.

dr+brandt+microdermabrasion 90s Ladies Week: Whats Up, Doc?The pharmaceutical grade crystals polished away all of my dead skin cells, leaving behind the softest, most radiant skin I’ve seen in forever ever. And it literally took two minutes. I couldn’t believe it. I emerged from the bathroom with an enormous grin, feeling up my face – incredulous that it could be so smooth. I urged my mom to touch my cheek and she was beyond impressed too.

I asked to take it off her hands…but after seeing the results, there was no way she was letting me leave her house with Dr. Brandt in tow.

Can you believe it? The woman who is the main beneficiary of my beauty beneficence doesn’t want to share. But she did give me life, and a pair of Doc Marten sandals (albeit four years late), so I guess I’ll just have to go out and get my own.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion For Face is available at Sephora and drbrandtskincare.com.

Well, that concludes 90s Ladies Week. I hope you had as much fun reading as I did writing. And be sure to visit Amber at Beauty Blogging Junkie and check out her final installment.

Loofah…To The Next Level

dermalogica+ultimate+buffing+cloth Loofah...To The Next Level
If you enjoy exfoliating as much as I do, you absolutely must pick up Dermalogica’s Ultimate Buffing Cloth. This cloth emilinates the need for exfoliating body washes and scrubs that can coat your tub/shower with slippery and gritty grains.

Once you use it, you’ll tell your loofah to “hit the road, jack” and you’ll never look back. The Ultimate Buffing Cloth is gentle, yet effective – and can be used with any body cleanser to reveal smooth, glowing skin. It works wonders on elbows, knees and heels…and is especially handy dandy when used on legs pre-shave. Say sayonara to stubble and hello to silky stems!

Hello, QVC? Yes…It’s Spoiled Pretty Calling For Kate Somerville

kate+somerville+1 Hello, QVC? Yes…It’s Spoiled Pretty Calling For Kate SomervilleLast night, I did something I’ve never done before. I called QVC. Not to buy anything…just to tell Kate Somerville that she’s a rock star. The woman is so unpretentious and glowy, what beauty addict wouldn’t wanna chitchat and pick her brain a bit?

So after two rings, a friendly customer service rep answered the phone and asked what item number I’d like to purchase. I explained that I didn’t want to purchase anything – I just wanted to talk to Kate. All the while, I was unconsciously disguising my voice. Why? I have absolutely no idea. It’s just one of those stupid things you do without rhyme or reason…as if the woman on the other end of the line is gonna say, “Daneen…is that you?”

Anyway, the representative told me that – at that time – they weren’t taking testimonials, but kindly thanked me for calling QVC before ending the call.

kate+somerville+oil+free+moisturizer Hello, QVC? Yes…It’s Spoiled Pretty Calling For Kate SomervilleI would have loved to converse with Kate. We could have bonded over our mutual fondness for exfoliation. I wanted to tell her that ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment is pure genius…that my mom thinks her Line Release Under Eye Repair is worth its weight in gold…and that I can’t wait to get my mitts on her new Oil-Free Moisturizer.

But who do they patch through to Ms. Somerville? Two crazy ladies who rambled on so long that they forgot what they were talking about. Typical. It’s just like the TV news – the on-the-scene reporter always interviews the eccentric woman with curlers in her hair or the man with the missing teeth who has nothing particularly relevant to say.

Gotta get me some of that moisturizer. I’ll report back when I do.

Amazing Grace Giveaway!

amazing+grace+buffing+wash Amazing Grace Giveaway!
I’m a fan of potent perfumes, and I’m a little heavy-handed in the application. Mr. Spoiled Pretty benignly suggests that I search for products with subtler notes. And every time I’m in a confined space with my mom and sister, they bluntly accuse me of wearing enough perfume to “choke a horse.” As much as I love my strong scents, I’ll admit that they can’t all be wrong.

So when I received an Amazing Grace gift set from Philosophy last week, I kept an open mind. Amazing Grace is Philosophy’s best selling scent, “created to enhance a woman’s well-being and draw people closer without overwhelming.” The products smelled good enough in the packaging, but how would it smell on me? Non-existent, I predicted…I hate fleeting fragrances that last for a hot second then fade away. But I was keeping an open mind and decided to put Amazing Grace to the test.

After a particularly challenging stint at the gym, I was sweaty, smelly and in serious need of a shower. Typically, I would use a deodorant soap or body wash, post-workout. But Amazing Grace Perfumed Buffing Wash helped me get squeaky clean again…in addition to exfoliating and hydrating my skin. Even hours later, the wonderfully feminine fragrance continued to linger on. When Graham returned from work that night and I welcomed him home, he said, “Honey, you smell great.” That’s when I knew I’d found a winner.

But the true test was my sister, who I usually have to bribe for a compliment. This past weekend, I met up with my mom and sister for a late brunch and an afternoon of shopping. When my mom called to say she was a couple of blocks away from my apartment, I quickly sprayed on Amazing Grace Perfumed Body Spritz and headed out the door to meet up with the peanut gallery.

After our meal, we headed to Rittenhouse for some retail therapy…and out of the blue, Lauren says, “What are you wearing? It smells good.” OMG. Stop. The. Presses. My sister just said something nice…to me. Needless to say, Amazing Grace has become a staple in my daily beauty ritual.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the scent,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see!

I’m so wild about these products that I want to share with one of you! This week, Spoiled Pretty is giving you an opportunity to win an Amazing Grace Gift Set courtesy of Philosophy. The set includes:

philosophy+amazing+grace Amazing Grace Giveaway!
Amazing Grace Perfumed Buffing Wash has a creamy, gel-like texture and contains gentle exfoliants that help smooth and soften skin without irritation. Use it daily over entire body in your shower or bath to maintain skin smoothness and hydration.

Amazing Grace Perfumed Shave Gel has a creamy, lotion-like texture, which allows your razor to glide over your skin for a gentle, yet close shave. It leave your legs and underarms super soft and silky smooth with an amazingly clean, beautifully feminine scent.

Amazing Grace Perfumed Body Spritz is a lightly scented spray which provides moisturizing and antioxidant benefits. It makes a great fragrance base, and can be enhanced by applying the infinitely clean, beautifully feminine scent of amazing grace eau de parfum to your pulse points as your ‘top coat’ or feel free to use with any of Philosophy’s state of grace fragrances, including Inner Grace, Pure Grace, or Baby Grace.

To enter, send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name. The subject line should read “Amazing Grace Giveaway.” The contest ends at midnight (EST) on Sunday, July 13th. One winner will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Monday, July 14th, I’ll announce the winner’s name. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents only.
