Beautiful Things My Mother Taught Me

Mom and me, circa 1979 Disclosure: This post is sponsored by CoverGirl. Mother’s Day is this Sunday and I’m so excited. Not just because Mr. Spoiled Pretty and my son, Westley, are treating me to a decadent brunch. But because it’s an opportunity to celebrate my hero, Andrea Stamps. I must admit that until two years ago, Mother’s Day was just another CONTINUE READING

Bath & Body Works 3-Wick Candles: 2 for $22

At Christmastime, I agonized over what to get my son's daycare teachers. There are 12 of them - and even though he has his two main teachers, they all have interaction with him and take excellent care of him. So I needed to buy 12 gifts to show my appreciation, without breaking the bank. $10 each seemed doable, except CONTINUE READING

IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Creme SPF 15

As a beauty expert, I’m embarrassed by how late I am to the BB Cream party. In the past year, so many friends and colleagues have asked me about BB Creams—what’s the buzz, which brands are the best, etc. —and they would look at me funny when I admitted to not having tried BB Creams yet. I mean, they CONTINUE READING

CoverGirl Outlast Brilliant Shine Nail Gloss in Vio-last

I’m very fickle about my fingernails. Before I paint my nails or get them professionally did, I spend a inordinate amount of time pondering my polish options. I consider the season, recent trends, my wardrobe that week and anywhere special I might go. But despite all of this planning, I’m usually over my polish choice before it even dries. My New Arm Candy: Rebecca Minkoff Swing Bag

After beauty products, handbags are my secondary addiction. But when it comes to arm candy, I have discriminating taste. For me, the perfect handbag seamlessly marries fashion with function, is handcrafted from high-quality materials, has really unique hardware and is classic but edgy - all at the same time. I don't like to carry the of-the-moment "it" bag. I CONTINUE READING

spoiled pretty covergirl cat eye Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Cat Eyes

I’m no pro makeup artist. But there’s one beauty technique that I’ve got down pat – the elusive cat eye. It requires patience and a steady paw…but once you put in a little practice, a ferosh fe-lined eye isn’t far off.

Besides practice, high-quality/easy-to-use products are the key to this look. I used three CoverGirl products to achieve this purr-fect cat eye.  It was easy, breezy and beautiful – if I do say so myself. Here’s how I did it:

1)      Apply the silver end of CoverGirl Smokey ShadowBlast – Onyx Smoke all over your lid – from the lash line and up past the crease. Also use it to trace the inner corner of your eye to make your peepers pop.

2)      Line the top lid using CoverGirl LiquilineBlast Eyeliner – Black Fire. At the outer corner of the eye, curve the line up slightly. Figuring out the angle of the “flick” can be kind of tricky, so here’s a tip: aim for the point where your brow ends.

3)      Apply CoverGirl LiquilineBlast Eyeliner – Black Fire to the waterline of the lower lid.

4)      Create fierce fringe with CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara. This mascara is amazing, y’all. It features an innovative curved brush that lets you load up the volume without the clumps, even after 30 strokes!

See how simple it is? With these three CoverGirl products, you can go from “I don’t know how” to MEOW!

Wanna re-create my look? Shop the P&G eStore and get $3 off two CoverGirl products OR get a FREE Cat Eye Look (which includes LiquilineBlast Eyeliner – Black Fire, Smokey ShadowBlast – Onyx Smoke, and LashBlast Volume Mascara – Very Black), when you spend $69.

MarilynMonroe LineUp 72 MAC Cosmetics Marilyn Monroe Collection“Pure platinum Hollywood glamour. Channel the legend’s luster & sex appeal in a colour collection distinctively Marilyn. It’s everything you need to capture the MM look. Specially designed packaging features imagery from The Black Sitting.” -MAC Cosmetics

As a girl who is a huge fan of big lashes and red lipstick, I was really looking forward to the Marilyn Monroe collection that MAC Cosmetics put together. Apparently, me and every other girl who considers herself a fan of makeup! A few days after the release of the collection, everything was sold out in the two stores by me. Luckily, Daneen received some products for me to test out.

First, there was eyeshadow in How To Marry. This is a great, shimmery base shadow – I love to use it when I’m going for big lashes and heavy black eyeliner. I also had a lip liner in Beet, which was a nice creamy shade of reddish pink. I did not have any lipsticks from this collection, so I paired the Beet lip liner with the quintessential matte Russian Red lipstick.

Next, there was an eye kohl in Fascinating (bright white), and  Dazzleglass in Little Rock (sheer white with pearl). For effect, I lined my inner lids with the kohl in Fascinating, added mascara to both top and bottom lashes, and added a thick line of MAC eyeshadow in Marvel. I then used the dazzleglass in Little Rock, for a very 60′s fresh face with full lashes look. This one was hard to capture on film, as the shimmer is subtle (thank goodness, none of us need to go back to the middle school roll on glitter look) but it looks really fun in person.

Overall, this is a great collection. The pieces I got are great additions to my arsenal, and all of the shades are classic and chic. Keep up the good work, MAC!

MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Cream in Gold1 1024x1024 MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua CreamThis morning, I wanted to do something interesting with my makeup for work. My first thought was to wear some fun lipstick, but then I remembered that it was going to be a hot and humid day, and that I would probably melt.

Enter MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Cream in 11 Gold, advertised as an ultra-pigmented, long-lasting waterproof cream.. These pots of color are amazing – great color, easy to apply, and don’t go anywhere until you use makeup remover. I opted for a quick swipe of this color as liner, extended a bit into a cat eye. I also put a little bit underneath my eyes, to mirror the top lid. CONTINUE READING

LOreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Laquer Liner 24HR 1024x1024 LOreal Paris Never Fail Lacquer Liner and Colour Caresse Luminous Lipcolor

A few weeks ago, I received a massive package from the kind folks at L’Oreal Paris. Inside was mountain of makeup, skincare and hair products. There’s entirely too many products to get through in this one little post, so this will be the first in a series of L’Oreal Paris product reviews.

First up is my favorite: L’Oreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lacquer Liner.
