Beautiful Things My Mother Taught Me

Mom and me, circa 1979 Disclosure: This post is sponsored by CoverGirl. Mother’s Day is this Sunday and I’m so excited. Not just because Mr. Spoiled Pretty and my son, Westley, are treating me to a decadent brunch. But because it’s an opportunity to celebrate my hero, Andrea Stamps. I must admit that until two years ago, Mother’s Day was just another CONTINUE READING

Bath & Body Works 3-Wick Candles: 2 for $22

At Christmastime, I agonized over what to get my son's daycare teachers. There are 12 of them - and even though he has his two main teachers, they all have interaction with him and take excellent care of him. So I needed to buy 12 gifts to show my appreciation, without breaking the bank. $10 each seemed doable, except CONTINUE READING

IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Creme SPF 15

As a beauty expert, I’m embarrassed by how late I am to the BB Cream party. In the past year, so many friends and colleagues have asked me about BB Creams—what’s the buzz, which brands are the best, etc. —and they would look at me funny when I admitted to not having tried BB Creams yet. I mean, they CONTINUE READING

CoverGirl Outlast Brilliant Shine Nail Gloss in Vio-last

I’m very fickle about my fingernails. Before I paint my nails or get them professionally did, I spend a inordinate amount of time pondering my polish options. I consider the season, recent trends, my wardrobe that week and anywhere special I might go. But despite all of this planning, I’m usually over my polish choice before it even dries. My New Arm Candy: Rebecca Minkoff Swing Bag

After beauty products, handbags are my secondary addiction. But when it comes to arm candy, I have discriminating taste. For me, the perfect handbag seamlessly marries fashion with function, is handcrafted from high-quality materials, has really unique hardware and is classic but edgy - all at the same time. I don't like to carry the of-the-moment "it" bag. I CONTINUE READING

spoiled+pretty+cat+eye+3 Birthday Cat EyeI have been told my many a professional that my eyes were made for makeup. Not to sound cocky or anything, but I’m pretty sure that when God formed me in the womb, s/he said to her/himself, “Wow…when this girl grows up, she’s gonna rock a fierce cat eye.”

So to celebrate my third annual 29th birthday, Mr. Spoiled Pretty and I dined at Tinto, one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia – and I sported this ferosh feline eye.

Here’s the recipe to replicate the look:

Apply Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion to entire eye, lashline up to brow bone.

Using MAC 242 Shader Brush, apply Stila Kitten Smudge Pot on the lid – from lashline to crease.

Using MAC 217 Blending Brush, lightly apply Stila Kitten Eye Shadow to the lid – from lashline to brow bone.

Using MAC 266 Small Angle Brush, line the eye with Stila Black Smudge Pot, flicking at the edge.

Prime lashes with Lancome Oscillation Powerbooster. Before it dries, layer Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara on top.

Finally, dip MAC 210 Precise Eye Liner Brush into Stila Kitten Eye Shadow and apply to inner corner of the eye, in a sideways V.

And here’s a bonus – thanks to the products’ staying power, your eye makeup will have nine lives. Meow!

brooke+shields+latisse FDA Lashes Out at Latisse

The Food and Drug Administration recently issued a warning to Allergan Inc., stating that the website for Latisse (a prescription eyelash lengthener) is misleading because it omits and minimizes risks associated with the product.

In a letter dated September 10, the FDA warns that latisse.com misbrands Latisse – in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act – because it does not clearly convey the consequences that may result from use of the drug, which include:

Iris pigmentation
Lid pigmentation
Hair growth outside the treatment area
Intraocular inflammation
Potential for contamination and infections
Absorption by soft contact lenses

Sometimes Not Reading Labels Actually Pays Off

mineral+water Sometimes Not Reading Labels Actually Pays Off
For the past few weeks, I have been applying Too Faced Mineral Water Eye Brightener to the inner v of my eyes to make my peepers pop. The nudish beige shade has a slight sheen that is the perfect marriage of matte and shimmer. I’ve been searching for such an eye pencil for forever…but the irony of it all is that this is not the product’s intended use.

In doing research for this review, I learned that the Mineral Water Eye Brightener was actually created to banish dark circles and allow the wearer to fake a restful 8 hours of sleep. I have since tried it under my eyes and have, consequently, fallen a little deeper in love with Too Faced.

As an added bonus (like you need any more reason to pull out your wallet), the pencil contains more than 35% mineral water – which makes it cool to the touch, while de-puffing and improving skin’s firmness elasticity and circulation.

Mineral Water Eye Brightener is available at Beauty.com, Nordstrom, Ulta, Sephora and toofaced.com.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Greetings from Philly! It’s a beautiful day in my neighborhood. In fact, we Philadelphians have enjoyed a string of gorgeous days this holiday weekend. Today, Mr. Spoiled Pretty and I took advantage of the magnificent weather and walked down to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and took in some culture. We were hoping to check out the Frida Kahlo exhibit; unfortunately, we were a week too late.

After meandering around the museum for a few hours, we stopped by Whole Foods for some groceries – Mr. Spoiled Pretty is cooking one of his specialties, steak fajitas. Yum! Now that we’re back home, I just had to take a pic of the chic shades that have been protecting my peepers all day long.

daneen+in+oakley+sunglasses+008 It’s Always Sunny In PhiladelphiaOakley Betray sunglasses are a perfect marriage of sport and style. Frames are available in five different colors (Black-Red, Cork, Lavender Tortoise, Sable, Tortoise Cream), and lenses come in six tints (Black Grey Gradient, Bronze, Black Gradient, Warm Grey, Dark Bronze, Bronze Polarized) that are simulated on the website…pretty darn cool.

The lenses filter out 100% of nasty UVA, UVB, and UVC rays. And the lens curvature protects delicate skin around the eyes from the damaging ultraviolet rays. So these shades aren’t just a stylish accessory, they’re also a beauty necessity.

My fajitas are calling so I have to run. Enjoy the rest of your day and we’ll chat again soon.

You’re friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
