Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Cover April Issue of Vogue

Welp, folks, it looks like Kanye finally wore Anna Wintour down and got his baby mama a coveted Vogue cover. So the rumors were true. There was buzz a few months back that Kim would cover the fashion bible, but then everyone assumed it would be a foreign Vogue - given Anna's alleged aversion to all things Kardashian. Recessionista’s Fabuless Pick of the Week: L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black

loreal+voluminous Recessionistas Fabuless Pick of the Week: LOreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon BlackLast month, while attending a New York Fashion Week event, I approached a total stranger because I was so bewitched by her lush, super-sized lashes. I asked her what mascara she was using – and I half expected her to say DiorShow, Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes or some pricey, unheard-of formula that you can only get in Europe or Japan (because that always seems to be my luck). So imagine my shock when she responded, “It’s L’Oreal Voluminous. I’ve been using it since I started wearing makeup, and I haven’t found anything else that I prefer more.”

Voluminous Mascara? Where have I been? I wore Voluminous in college, when drugstore was all I could afford. But once I got myself a jobby job, I traded in mass market for prestige (for the most part) and dropped Voluminous like a bad habit. This chance encounter with Voluminous’ new BFF made me feel salty and snobbish for forgetting my humble beginnings. So I recently picked up a tube of Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black and hoped the old spark would ignite. The verdict: lashes so hot, they could start an inferno!

L’Oreal Voluminous not only pumped up the volume of my sparse lashes, the mascara took my fringe to new heights…all without clumps. And unlike so many mascaras on the market nowadays, the Voluminous brush doesn’t grab too much product – which is great because I hate having to wipe off excess product and helplessly watch as half of the tube’s content goes in the trash, on a tissue. Another thing I appreciate about Voluminous is that – after it dries – my lashes don’t feel rock hard and brittle; they’re still soft and flexible, yet the color stays put and doesn’t migrate under my eyes after a long day.

Moral of the story: don’t forget your roots. Oldies can still be goodies…and this goodie is great, because it costs less than $8! Stranger in NYC, thanks for inspiring me to reconnect with an old friend.

Reunited and it looks so good
Reunited ’cause we understood
There’s one perfect fit
And, sugar, this one is it
We both are so excited
‘Cause we’re reunited – hey, hey

L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black is sold at drugstores and mass market retailers. And right now, drugstore.com is having a special promotion: buy any L’Oreal cosmetic item and get 50% off the second. So take my advice and take advantage of drugstore.com’s beneficence.

And just in case you were wondering, that yummy sparkle on my eyes comes courtesy of MAC’s new Sugarsweet collection. I traced the inner corners with the Lemon Chiffon Shade Stick to give my peepers some sparkle and make them pop!

wet+n+wild+dual+effecrs+eye+pencil Recessionista’s Fabuless Pick of the Week: Wet N Wild Dual Effects Eye PencilI haven’t used Wet n Wild products since the mid 90’s, when I bought one of their brown lip pencils to outline my mouth, a la Janet Jackson in her That’s The Way Love Goes video.

But once I started college and had some disposable income, I forgot about the bargain brand that satisfied my beauty addiction throughout high school. Now, I’m full circle and back in love with another Wet n Wild liner – the new Beauty Benefits Dual Effects Eye Pencil.

These pencils offer double the benefits: one side defines with smooth, smokey color, while the other brightens, lifts and opens the eye area. The Beauty Benefits Dual Effects Eye Pencil comes in six shades: Solar Eclipse, Bronzed Earth, Golden Espresso, Starry Night, Rich Eggplant and Sterling Graphite.

I have the Sterling Graphite; I use the gray liner to define my upper and lower lashes, then I apply the sparkly white shadow to the inner corners of my eyes to make them pop.

Beauty Benefits Dual Effects Eye Pencil retails for only $4.99! Click here to see where they are sold in your hood.

My sister’s BFF turned me onto Victoria’s Secret Flawless Glow Face Bronzer, from the Bare Bronze Collection. This velvety duo-bronzer has two finishes. Use the satin matte shade to contour, the pearly powder to highlight; and blend the two shades together for a shimmering bronze glow.

lindsay dirty face Recessionistas Fabuless Pick of the Week: Victorias Secret Flawless Glow Face BronzerThe shimmery half of the duo leaves you looking sunkissed, rather than muddy – a la Lindsay “Dirty Face” Lohan.

Here’s another tip passed along from Lauren’s friend: apply the shimmery shade, in a stripe, down the middle of the nose – then continue the line from the bottom of the nose to the cupid’s bow. And ta-da – instant hotness.

Flawless Glow Face Bronzer is available in three shades: light (glow 1), light/medium (glow 2), and medium (glow 3). I’ve got a Halle Berry-esque complexion and I wear the light/medium, just to give you an idea.

On the website, Flawless Glow Face Bronzer will set you back $17.50. But my sister and I snagged ours in the Victoria’s Secret store, where they’re selling these babies for $4.37! There’s also this adorable kabuki brush (super soft brown bristles with hot pink tips) that’s on sale for $4.87.

I finally cashed in the gift card I got last September at Fashion Week – and bought the Flawless Glow Face Bronzer and the Very Sexy Demi Push-Up Bra with Gel-Curve (very sexy, indeed).

Recessionista’s Fabuless Pick of the Week: Liplicious 2-in-1 Moisturizing Lip Color & Sugar Scrub

liplicious+lip+color+and+sugar+scrub Recessionistas Fabuless Pick of the Week: Liplicious 2 in 1 Moisturizing Lip Color & Sugar Scrub
I’m a beauty blogger, which means I test a plethora of products. So it’s not very often that I come across something so fun and ingenious that it makes me giddy. Bath & Body Works Liplicious 2-in-1 Moisturizing Lip Color & Sugar Scrub has me giddy and smacking my lips. And what’s more? Normally $12, B&BW has slashed prices – so now you can buy two 2-in-1 Moisturizing Lip Color & Sugar Scrubs for the price of one!

Peep the directions: Smooth dull, dry lips with this delicious brown sugar scrub once a day and lick off the remaining sugar. Then, apply luscious lip color to moisturize.

Don’t you just love it? You don’t wash or tissue off the sugar scrub. You lick it off. Sweetness! When I read the instructions, I totally flashed back to what Veronica Sawyer says to Heather Chandler outside the Remington party: “Lick it up, baby. Lick it up!”

Besides the fun of licking the sugar scrub off your lips, Liplicious 2-in-1 Moisturizing Lip Color & Sugar Scrub does a great job of buffing scaly, winter lips. And the Pomegranate/Brown Sugar Scrub combination has a gorgeous dusty-rose pink lip moisturizer that I’m loving right now. The lip color is actually quite long-lasting. The other night, I applied it before bed and I awoke looking much cuter than I typically do at 7:30 in the morn.

Liplicious 2-in-1 Moisturizing Lip Color & Sugar Scrub is available in Pomegranate, Candied Apple, and Coconut Truffle. Yum…makes me wanna lick my lips.

johnsons+oatmeal+vanilla Recessionistas Fabuless Picks of the Week
I’m eczema prone in the wintertime, so I can’t be sudsing up with just any old body cleanser this time of year. Last month, while shopping at CVS for wrapping paper, I came across Johnson’s Vanilla Oatmeal Body Wash, and quickly snatched it off the shelf. For centuries, oats have been used to soothe, protect and moisturize dry and irritated skin; so I figured if this body wash contains oatmeal and is gentle enough for infants, it couldn’t hurt. I’m glad that I took a chance because this bottle o’ bubbles is just what the dermatologist ordered. The creamy formula lathers up nice (sans sodium lauryl sulfate) thoroughly cleanses without stripping, the oatmeal relieves my itchy scratchies and the subtle vanilla scent is warm and comforting. And for less than $5, it’s this recessionista’s pick of the week. And it’s even more fabuless if you actually have a baby…you can share!

palmers+oil Recessionistas Fabuless Picks of the WeekAfter you emerge from the shower/bath, do yourself a favor and don’t dry yourself completely. Pat your skin with a towel so that there’s still some moisture on the skin – then apply Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil all over your body. This preservative-free, lightweight formula contains an exclusive blend of key ingredients for scars, stretch marks, dry, damaged skin, uneven skin tone, aging skin, lines and wrinkles. The oil locks in moisture; your skin will look and feel soft, with a radiant sheen. The product sinks in on contact and the formula is non-greasy and non-staining, so you needn’t wait to get dressed. The scent is to die for (like a frothy black and white milkshake) and it’s only $10.99 for a 5.1 oz bottle!
