Because Shaving is the Pits: DERMAdoctor Gorilla Warfare Antiperspirant Giveaway!

My hair grows like a weed. Unfortunately, the hair of which I speak is not on my head. My legs and underarms give my razor a workout. If I shave in the morning, by afternoon, I've got stubble. And forget about skipping days...unless I want to look like Sasquatch. Getting rid of the hair is not only expensive (I CONTINUE READING

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: BlowPro Perfect Shower Cap

The shower and my chemically-straightened hair are frenemies. Every seventh day when I wash my hair, they get along great in a shampoo Shangri-la. But the rest of the week, I employ a shower cap to keep the steam from undoing the silky straightness. I have been wearing shower caps since I was a child, and I’ve tried them CONTINUE READING

Get Catty With Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses

I've been searching for some cat eye sunnies for forever. On a whim, I bought these Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses from Shopbop - hoping that they wouldn't look too cartoonish. Even though I was afraid they'd be too large, I'm digging the oversized frames. They make a statement without overwhelming my face. And the cat eye shape is subtle, so it's not CONTINUE READING

Peep My Polish: Revlon Top Speed Nail Enamel in Superstitious

Now that I have two kids - and the youngest being 6 weeks old - I needed to get better acquainted with quick-dry nail polish options. I hardly have time to do anything, let alone a DIY - so I needed to find some lacquers that fit my new lifestyle. Yesterday, while going my grocery shopping, I picked up Revlon CONTINUE READING

Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING

New York Fashion Week: Spotted – Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth!

New York Fashion Week: Spotted Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth!

After I got my hair (Warren Tricomi) and makeup (Smashbox) done at the Fashion Week Daily Suite, I headed over to Bryant Park to drink coffee and people watch. Imagine my surprise when I spotted Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth emerging from the Promenade within minutes of each other.

Nicole’s hair really is to die for…the cameras don’t lie. And Kate graciously posed for pictures as a thousand and one photogs shouted her name and blinded her with flashes.

Unfortunately, while I had my head on a swivel, I didn’t have my camera at the ready. Hopefully, these won’t be the last star sightings at New York Fashion Week, Fall 2009.

New York Fashion Week: Star Spotting at the MAC Lounge

Happy Tuesday, Spoiled Pretty readers. I’m one day away from the end of my New York Fashion Week tour, and it’s been a whirlwind. Today, while chilling in the MAC Lounge backstage at Bryant Park, Erika and I met Joy Bryant, Santogold and Monet Mazur. After attending the Matthew Williamson show, the three friends yucked it up while filming a video for MAC.

Before they departed for their next fabulous destination, we snapped some pics and asked them about their favorite MAC products.

Joy, who wore no makeup (and was ridiculously gorgeous despite the fact) dished that she can’t live without MAC’s Ruby Woo Lipstick. She says that it’s the only lipstick she ever wears…and she’s running low. Do you hear that, MAC?

Santogold, who is so contagiously vivacious and funky fun, said that she wears MAC Glitter in Reflects Antique Gold. In fact, she puts it on before every show.

New York Fashion Week: I’m A Barbie Girl, In The Barbie World

barbie runway show New York Fashion Week: I’m A Barbie Girl, In The Barbie World

I’m a blond little girl, in the fantasy world
Dress me up, make it tight, I’m your dolly
You’re my doll, rock’n’roll, feel the glamour and pain,
Kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky…
You can touch, you can play, if you say: “I’m always yours”

I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world
Life is plastic, it’s fantastic!
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation

To commemorate her 50th birthday, Barbie partied like it’s 1959, 2009 and 2059. Yesterday, Barbie took Manhattan and staged the most anticipated fashion week show in forev. 50 celebrated designers showcased one-of-a-kind, adult-size creations inspired by the renowned fashion doll. The epic fashion event celebrated the past, present and future of fashion, with Barbie as the muse; she’s once, twice, three times a lady.

New York Fashion Week: I’m A Barbie Girl, In The Barbie World

Backstage at Barbie, I spoke to Charlotte Tilbury, lead makeup artist for Stila. She told me that the looks were divided into three sections: Past Barbie, Present Barbie and Futuristic Barbie.

New York Fashion Week: I’m A Barbie Girl, In The Barbie World

Barbie Present New York Fashion Week: I’m A Barbie Girl, In The Barbie World“Past is a 50’s dominatrix with pure red lips and really high-gloss pink-red gloss. A late 50’s black cat liquid eye with a little bit of contouring and shimmering white highlights. And a little bit of a filled in eyebrow,” she said.

“Barbie from the present is very Sharon Tate doll-looking; lots of lilacs and soft pinks, whites and dove grays – and beigy, pale pink glossy lips.”

“Futuristic Barbie looks like she’s wearing a Venetian mask or going to a Venetian ball. She’s got a butterfly be-dazzled eye with feathers, sequins, and electric blue glitter. Like a peacock butterfly with a beige Bardot gloss.”

Charlotte added, “Barbie was always my favorite game when I was younger. And being in fashion and making up models feels like you’re still playing Barbie. But today is so much fun. I get to live a little bit more of my fantasy.”

I asked Charlotte how these runway looks can be translated for real life, to which she replied:

New York Fashion Week: I’m A Barbie Girl, In The Barbie World“The present and the past are really great looks for real women. For the futuristic look, if you wanted to take the fabulous electric shimmery blue shadow with black eyeliner and did that with a beigy gloss lip, it would be a fantastic look also for real women.”

When asked why she thinks Barbie continues to be an icon, Charlotte answered, “She leggy, she’s got a waist, she’s got fabulous perky boobs, she’s got big blonde hair, huge big doe eyes, glossy lips and she never really speaks.”

For Past Barbie, Orlanda Pita (for T3) styled exaggerated ponytails and blunt bangs, reminiscent of vintage Barbie with the chevron striped swimsuit. He teased the models’ hair, a la Valley of the Dolls, for Present Barbie – using Plump and Control sprays. Futuristic Barbies sported larger-than-life buns, embellished with braided extensions.

CND was responsible for the dollicious manicures. As you can see in the photo below, all of the artifical nails have an elongated almond shape. CND lead nail technician, Amanda Fontanarrosa, gave me the skinny on the show’s nail looks…and shared some pro secrets.

Past Barbie: Wildfire #111
Present Barbie – Hot Pop Pink #348
Futuristic Barbie: French manicure, evolving into a lucite tip

“If a model smudges a nail at the last minute backstage, I simply glide a tiny bit of acetone over the nail with the pad of my finger to smooth out the enamel,” Amanda shared. “Wafting your hands or blowing on wet enamelk does NOT speed up drying time, instead it slows it down. That’s why we use Solar Speed Spray to control the flow of oxygen over enamel, helping it to dry faster.”

Blowout at Ted Gibson Salon Blows My Mind!

ted+gibson+salon Blowout at Ted Gibson Salon Blows My Mind!

Yesterday morning after arriving in NYC for Fashion Week and dropping my bags off at the hotel, I high-tailed it to the Ted Gibson Salon on 5th Avenue.

Blowout at Ted Gibson Salon Blows My Mind!Jason Backe, who recently dyed my hair to the most gorge hot chocolate hue, arranged for Amber and me to get our tresses blown out. Vincenza, before shampooing me with Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo (which smells DIVINE, by the by), was shocked by the softness of my hair. She was even more astounded when I told her it was thanks to Nice ‘N Easy ColorSeal Conditioning Gloss.

Laisam rubbed a Ted Gibson Hair Sheet on my towel-dried hair to rejuvinate my locks and protect against UV rays and environmental damage, then she blowed out my hair to perfection. While Laisam skillfully styled my hair, she entertained me with funny stories about her mom – whose crazy antics remind me a lot of Mama Spoiled Pretty.

Before Laisam sent me on my way, to grace New York with my bomb blowout, she rubbed a little shine serum on my hair to make it shine like the top of the Chrystler building. This product isn’t yet on shelves, as Ted is still testing it…but Laisam has a great pet name for it; she calls it “crack juice” because once you use it, it becomes an addiction.

Once you turn crack, you never turn back.

I Just Met Christian Siriano at New York Fashion Week!

Posted on by daneen in Fashion Week, Project Runway | 1 Comment

christian+siriano I Just Met Christian Siriano at New York Fashion Week!Fifteen minutes ago, after picking up my press pass at Bryant Park, I decided to kill some time back at the hotel before covering backstage at the Barbie show. Just as I’m leaving, I spot a familiar face…and before I my mind could even process what was happening, I blurt out, “OMG, it’s Christian Siriano!”

He turned around, obviously a little scared that some stranger is screaming his name on the street. I quickly collected myself and told him what a huge fan I am. I had to check myself, so I didn’t say anything really lame – like using the word “fierce” ten times during our 45 second encounter. Although I may have let it slip that I stalk him on Twitter.

Long story short, even all bundled up and in a rush to get to wherever he was going, he still looked fierce, fabulous and flawless!
