Because Shaving is the Pits: DERMAdoctor Gorilla Warfare Antiperspirant Giveaway!

My hair grows like a weed. Unfortunately, the hair of which I speak is not on my head. My legs and underarms give my razor a workout. If I shave in the morning, by afternoon, I've got stubble. And forget about skipping days...unless I want to look like Sasquatch. Getting rid of the hair is not only expensive (I CONTINUE READING

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: BlowPro Perfect Shower Cap

The shower and my chemically-straightened hair are frenemies. Every seventh day when I wash my hair, they get along great in a shampoo Shangri-la. But the rest of the week, I employ a shower cap to keep the steam from undoing the silky straightness. I have been wearing shower caps since I was a child, and I’ve tried them CONTINUE READING

Get Catty With Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses

I've been searching for some cat eye sunnies for forever. On a whim, I bought these Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses from Shopbop - hoping that they wouldn't look too cartoonish. Even though I was afraid they'd be too large, I'm digging the oversized frames. They make a statement without overwhelming my face. And the cat eye shape is subtle, so it's not CONTINUE READING

Peep My Polish: Revlon Top Speed Nail Enamel in Superstitious

Now that I have two kids - and the youngest being 6 weeks old - I needed to get better acquainted with quick-dry nail polish options. I hardly have time to do anything, let alone a DIY - so I needed to find some lacquers that fit my new lifestyle. Yesterday, while going my grocery shopping, I picked up Revlon CONTINUE READING

Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING

The Cutest Skirt In America

Posted on by daneen in Fashion | Leave a comment

banana+republic+essential+skirt The Cutest Skirt In AmericaToday on my lunch break, I popped into Banana Republic for some “window shopping.” But my intentions of looking but not buying flew out of window when I spotted this Cotton Essential Skirt. The gathered, elastic waistband is so adorable, it pretty much dictates that you tuck in the top you pair it with; it’s such a fantastic detail, it almost serves as a belt. The inverted pleat in front is another nice touch. And the pockets…well, they pretty much sold me on this skirt. I love anything with pockets.

What I love most about this piece is its verastility. Wear it with a silk blouse, kitten heels and pearls for an office-appropriate ensemble. Or top it off with a simple tank and slip on some gladiator sandals for an urban chic look.

Though it pained me to pay full price for this skirt (I have a magnetic attraction to sale racks and keep coupons on my person at all times), I couldn’t bring myself to loosen my kung fu grip and return it to the display table. So now it’s hanging in my closet…at least until tomorrow. I can’t wait any longer to wear it. And after I get paid, I might return to the scene of the crime and pick up another one – in Mountain Blue.

This photo really doesn’t do it justice. Let’s just say that when I brought the skirt back to the office and showed off my new find, two of my co-workers were talking about making a beeline for Banana Republic.

Getting Dressed With Zahra Saeed

zahra+saeed+dress Getting Dressed With Zahra SaeedA few weeks ago when I was packing for a 4-day trip to New York for the Daily Makeover Beauty Bloggerati conference, I did the usual. I loaded a 30″ suitcase (which happens to be bigger than many NYC studio apartments) with 10-days worth of wardrobe options. But of all the clothes that I crammed into my luggage, the piece that I was most excited to wear was a dress by Philadelphia designer, Zahra Saeed.

Late last month, I stopped by Saeed’s Rittenhouse boutique – looking for something special to take on my trip. Upon entering the shop, I was immediately smitten with the romantic silhouettes, bold prints and intricate details of the designer’s spring/summer 2009 collection.

After perusing the racks, I took several dresses into the fitting room. Zahra Saeed’s line doesn’t offer petite sizes, so I kept my excitement in check until I tried everything on. But to my surprise, most of the dresses fit amazingly well. It was almost as if Zahra Saeed had crafted patterns based on my exact proportions.

amber+and+daneen Getting Dressed With Zahra SaeedThough all of the dresses that I tried on were beautiful, I didn’t have a difficult time choosing which one to take home; actually, it chose me. The second I slipped on this high collared, tea dyed dress – with its ruffled sleeves and delicate embroidery – I knew it was meant to be. I adored it so much that I wanted to wear it out of the store that day.

And when I was in New York, I kept waiting for the right occassion to wear it. I didn’t want to waste such a gorgeous dress – the perfect summer dress, to be fair – on just any ole shindig. So I saved the best for last.

For my final night in NYC, I wore my Zahra Saeed dress to dinner at Kingswood (the see and be seen hotspot in the West Village), then drinks and dancing at bOb Bar (best hip hip on the Lower East Side).

Joining me were my blogging besties (Amber, Erika and Julia), Heather (from MAC) and Andrea (from Essence Magazine).

Pretty Dresses For Petites: Maggy London

Posted on by daneen in Fashion, Spoiled Pretty family | Leave a comment

maggy+london+dress Pretty Dresses For Petites: Maggy LondonIf you’re petite like me, you know the pain of returning from a day-long shopping excursion empty-handed because everything in your size is hideous. I can’t, for the life of me, understand why designers seem to think we shorties ought to dress like we’re six or sixty. Elastic-waisted jeans and tops fashioned out of doilies? No thank you.

Which is why I’m currently obsessed with Maggy London. I’m going through a phase where all I want to do is wear dresses, and Maggy London has some of the prettiest, petite-friendly styles around.

At Nordstrom two weeks ago, I tried on four Maggy London dresses and they all fit perfectly. I only had room in my budget for one, so I decided on this blue floral wrap dress because Mr. Spoiled Pretty said I looked “gorgeous” in it. Plus, it was on sale. Score!

So if any of my vertically challenged sisters are in the market for fashion-forward frocks made perfectly for your proportions, I highly suggest that you try Maggy London on for size.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Khloe Kardashian

Posted on by daneen in Celebrities, Fashion, Interview, Nails | Leave a comment

khloe kardashian maxim 100 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Khloe KardashianHave you seen my beauty Q&A with Khloe Kardashian? It’s must-see TV, though my opinion might be a bit biased. The exclusive interview with Khloe Kardashian and her makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, features their must-have products, makeup techniques and beauty secrets!

If you’ve already seen the interview and are fiending for more Dash dish, consider this a companion piece…

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Khloe Kardashian

1) She believes that being a prankster helps her hone her acting skills.

2) The Keeping Up With The Kardashians episode that makes her cringe is when she participated in an acting class.

3) Khloe’s fashion icons are Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn, Victoria Bekham and Rihanna. “I love that one day she’s a schoolgirl and the next day she’s a dominatrix,” Khloe says of Rihanna. “I can appreciate that because I have multiple personalities
too.”

4) If she could only wear one designer for the rest of her life, it would be Alexander Wang.

5) “When it comes to my nails, I just always do crazy. I recently went to Africa and all of the kids were totally fascinated by my nails, which were really long with silver glitter tips and rhinestones on my ring fingers in the shape of a K.”

6) Khloe hardly ever wears false lashes because her natural lashes are forever long. “She just doesn’t need them,” Mario told me. I was up close and personal, and I can attest to the fact that Khloe won the genetic lottery when it comes to her lashes. They are ridiculously lush.

7) After seeing Khloe in certain photographs, people swear that Khloe has had her lips done – which isn’t true. It’s just that her natural lip color is the same as her skin…so when her lips are all done up, it makes them really pop.

8) Khloe is contemplating having the inside of her wrist inked with the word “Bunny,” written in her mother’s handwriting. Since she was little, Bunny has been her mom’s pet name for her – and the new tattoo would be a compliment to this one she got last year.

9) Khloe says she would never get a name tattooed on her body, with the exception of her family. “Honey, even husbands come and go,” she joked.

10) Since watching the video, my inbox has been inundated with emails asking what lipstick/gloss Khloe was wearing in the video. Here’s the recipe: First, Mario lined her lips with MAC Lip Pencil in Spice. Then he mixed Josie Maran Finger Paints and MAC Lipstick in Myth, and filled in her lips. Finally, he topped it all off with NARS Lip Gloss in Turkish Delight.
