Fashion First Aid: Cynthia Rowley Band-Aids

Today at work, I got a pretty gnarly paper cut. This wasn’t some superficial slice either. This was like a third-degree paper cut and I was getting a little woozy from the loss of blood.

Normally, I would curse my clumsiness. But this time, I was actually kind of excited because I finally had an excuse to break into the unopened box of Cynthia Rowley Band-Aids I had at home. (more…)

How To Wear 4 Scarves 16 Different Ways

I love scarves and wear one almost every day. But I’m stuck in a rut because I only know two ways to wear them. Despite my best intentions, they end up looking haphazardly thrown on and I get a case of scarf envy every time I pass a girl on the street who obviously knows how style one. (more…)

Beauty (Book) Mark:

I love fashion and beauty magazines.Mr. Spoiled Pretty, not so much. Probably because I subscribe to a gazillionand my magazine library takes up a ridiculous amount of real estate in ourhouse. Every month when my new issues are delivered, I pour over the pages –reading about the latest products and innovations and gleaning genius styletips. But as much as I love my magazines, I’m often frustrated by the broad-spectrumadvice. Like most women, I want advice and recommendations that address myunique beauty and style concerns. Which is why I am so excited to have recentlydiscovered a new website that offers a truly customized, interactiveexperience.

StyleUnited is the first personalizedwebsite that provides women with a one-stop destination for head-to-toe fashionand beauty consultations, recommendations, and news. The site features articles, slideshows, blog posts and how-to videos from P&G and industry expertsincluding: influential stylists, fellow bloggers and online editors.

StyleUnited provides customized recommendationsbased on responses to Style360, a one-of-a-kind diagnostic tool that gives youa fresh perspective on your total style.

Four fun quizzes are designed to understandyour unique skincare, haircare, cosmetics and fashion needs:

Fashion Focus: Fashion goes beyond the season’s hottest trends.Whether you’re Boho Chic or Flirty Romantic, we help you find flatteringsilhouettes and the looks you love.

Mad For Makeup: Your makeup is as individual as you are. We evaluateyour features, coloring and goals to help you turn up your gorgeous.

Hair Affair: All hair is not created equal. From root to tip, weoffer you custom advice on making yours shine, and how to achieve the looks youwant.

Skin Deep: Every woman’s skin has unique characteristics andneeds. We help you create a custom regimen that gets yours glowing.

I had a ball playing around withStyle360 and was impressed by how spot-on the assessments were. For example, theFashion Focus quiz described my look as “edgy bold with a hint of casual cool.”It correctly guessed that I’m drawn to “sexy rock n’ roll pieces” (I am asucker for anything studded), but added that also like “a few soft cozy touches”(I have a closet full of open cardigans and I practically live in Uggs).

The product recommendations werealso dead-on. In fact, some of the items that Style360 suggested are already onheavy rotation in my beauty arsenal.

If you’re looking for an evenmore personalized experience, StyleUnited offers 1:1 eBeauty – a live webcamconsultation with professional beauty consultants. Don’t have a webcam? Noproblem. 1:1 can be done over the phone too. It’s like a department storebeauty counter experience (except you can do it in your pajamas and slipperswhich I’m pretty sure might get you kicked out of Nordstrom). And how much doesthis real time advice session cost? Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

So if your New Year’s resolutionis to get gorge in 2012, you’d be wise to add to your bookmarks. Besides being a great style resource, it’sdownright addictive. But you don’t have to take my word for it…try it for yourself and let me know what you think in the comments.

If The Shoe Fits: Audrey Brooke Paris Flat

For years, Tory Burch’s Reva flats (left) have been on my wardrobe wish-list. But every time I work up the nerve to exercise my Visa, something always rains on my fancy footwear parade.
In 2009, I was this close to adopting a pair of the iconic ballet flats – but then I got pregnant and decided to wait until after I gave birth and my feet stopped growing. Then after I had Westley, I put Reva back on my shopping list – only to find that the style runs too narrow for my fat, flat feet.
I was ready to give up the dream until this week, during a routine venture to my neighborhood DSW. I was actually shopping for my son, but after being informed that they don’t sell kids shoes in the stores (only online), I decided that it shouldn’t be a wasted trip so I took a quick survey of the womens’ section before heading on my way.

That’s when I saw it…the Audrey Brooke Paris Flat. I was immediately enamored with the Reva doppleganger and rendered positively giddy by the price tag – just $59.95! But would the shoe fit? As I hurriedly removed my Ugg boot and slipped my foot into the shoe, I said a little prayer and…it fit like a glove. Not to sound dramatic – okay, maybe just a little – it was a Cinderella moment.

Alas, I didn’t buy the shoe in the store because I figured I could save more if I purchased online. So as soon as I returned home, I got on the Internet and picked up a black pair for less than $30. As I explained in a recent review of the Audrey Brooke Leopard Satchel, the awesome thing about is that you can combine coupon codes. By combining some promo codes I researched online and cashing in some coupons I received as a DSW Rewards member (sign up…it’s free!), I saved $30 and got free shipping.

In addition to black leather, the Paris Flat is available in a metalic leather and a leopard print haircalf. They leopard ones aren’t available online, but I spotted them in the store – just, sadly, not in my size. So I called some other local DSW stores and tracked down a pair in my size – and they’re on hold until I can go adopt them on Friday. I can’t wait!!!

Update: I scooped up the shoes a few days ago and I am so proud of my purchase. Too cute, right?

Maybe it’s a godsend that my feet are so fat…because, for less than the price of Reva, I can pick up all three pairs of Paris.

Audrey Brooke Leopard Satchel from DSW

I am so excited about my new handbag, Audrey Brooke’s Leopard Satchel, that I couldn’t keep this fabulous find to myself. The photo doesn’t do this bag justice, so I shot a video to highlight its prettiness.

Besides being extremely cute (doesn’t it look designer?), well made and roomy, it was also crazy affordable. I would value this bag at about $200-250, but I snagged it for less than $100. It’s on sale at DSW for $129.95, but if you buy it online, you can use coupon codes to get a great deal. The awesome thing about is that you can combine codes. By combining some random codes I researched online and cashing in some coupons I received as a DSW Rewards member (sign up…it’s free!), I saved $30 and got free shipping. Here are some codes to get you started:

SHOPTIME: Spend $74 get $15 off, spend $149 get $30 off,spend $199 get $50 off [Expires 10/17]
SHIPR: Free standard shipping on purchases of $35+ [Exp.06/20/12 – Valid only for logged-in DSW Rewards members]
The Leopard Satchel is also available with camel leather. If this bag is a bit big for you, Audrey Brooke has a similar, smaller Leopard Cross Body Bag. And with all the cash you’re saving, you might want to snatch up a matching wallet.
