Beautiful Things My Mother Taught Me

Mom and me, circa 1979 Disclosure: This post is sponsored by CoverGirl. Mother’s Day is this Sunday and I’m so excited. Not just because Mr. Spoiled Pretty and my son, Westley, are treating me to a decadent brunch. But because it’s an opportunity to celebrate my hero, Andrea Stamps. I must admit that until two years ago, Mother’s Day was just another CONTINUE READING

Bath & Body Works 3-Wick Candles: 2 for $22

At Christmastime, I agonized over what to get my son's daycare teachers. There are 12 of them - and even though he has his two main teachers, they all have interaction with him and take excellent care of him. So I needed to buy 12 gifts to show my appreciation, without breaking the bank. $10 each seemed doable, except CONTINUE READING

IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Creme SPF 15

As a beauty expert, I’m embarrassed by how late I am to the BB Cream party. In the past year, so many friends and colleagues have asked me about BB Creams—what’s the buzz, which brands are the best, etc. —and they would look at me funny when I admitted to not having tried BB Creams yet. I mean, they CONTINUE READING

CoverGirl Outlast Brilliant Shine Nail Gloss in Vio-last

I’m very fickle about my fingernails. Before I paint my nails or get them professionally did, I spend a inordinate amount of time pondering my polish options. I consider the season, recent trends, my wardrobe that week and anywhere special I might go. But despite all of this planning, I’m usually over my polish choice before it even dries. My New Arm Candy: Rebecca Minkoff Swing Bag

After beauty products, handbags are my secondary addiction. But when it comes to arm candy, I have discriminating taste. For me, the perfect handbag seamlessly marries fashion with function, is handcrafted from high-quality materials, has really unique hardware and is classic but edgy - all at the same time. I don't like to carry the of-the-moment "it" bag. I CONTINUE READING

Hosting any Sex And The City festivities this weekend? Serving cosmos? Oh, no! Cosmopolitans are so last season. There’s a new pink drink in town.

After the film’s NYC premiere, the cast and crew celebrated at the Carlyle hotel’s Bemelmans Bar, where they sipped a signature cocktail in honor of Sarah Jessica Parker’s character. Here’s how to make one:

satc+movie+group+pic New York State Of Mind: Sex And The City Beauty Secrets Revealed!
In case you didn’t know or haven’t heard, there’s this little movie called Sex And The City coming out on Friday. The story revolves around these four dowdy prudes living in a sleepy town called New York. I predict it will be a total snooze fest. It probably won’t even break even.

I kid. If you’re anything like me, you’re counting down the hours until Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda come to a screen near you. Some of you die-hards have tickets to tonight’s midnight showings. Good luck at work tomorrow.

Today, Spoiled Pretty will be revealing the beauty secrets behind this summer’s most anticipated film. Stay tuned…it’s gonna be BIG!

Who Are You? Who, Who, Who, Who?

exam Who Are You? Who, Who, Who, Who?
This past weekend, I attended a Memorial Day party. While chatting with my friend, Claire, she asked me how the blog was going – so I proceeded to tell her what I’ve been up to and about some surprises I have up my sleeves. At one point in the convo, she inquired about Spoiled Pretty’s demographics. I was pretty embarrassed that nine months have passed and I don’t know the first thing about the people I chat with every day.

So since I open up and share my life on a daily basis, it’s only fair that you help return the favor. I’ve created a survey to capture some visitor demographics. It is my hope that in learning more about all of you, I can better my blog and help spoil you prettier. Sounds good, right?

The poll is multiple-choice and only has six questions. So help a sista out and take the quiz. Merci beaucoup!

Update: The poll has reached its respondent limit (boo)…I tried to upgrade my account so that I could capture more data, but I’ve been having some technical difficulties. If I get it working again, I’ll let you know. Thanks to all who participated!

Amber, me, and Marina.

This past weekend, I traveled to Los Angeles to attend the first ever Total Beauty Blog Community Summit, in partnership with Intelligent Beauty. Over 60 of the top beauty bloggers participated in workshops on editing beauty content, public relations, innovative online marketing strategies, cutting-edge technology tools and techniques, as well as beauty trend forecasting and new product launches.

Now that I’m back in Philly, I’m ready to dish. You’re nosey and I’m chatty, so here’s a recap of things seen and heard at the summit:

dr+hirsch Everywhere in L.A. Takes Twenty Minutes
Dr. Alan Hirsch has created Sensa, a revolutionary weight-loss system that uses the science of taste and smell to turn off your hunger. Just sprinkle Sensa’s “tastants” on all of your meals and snacks to feel full faster, eat less and lose more weight. The beauty bloggers in attendance are the first to receive Sensa (besides those involved in the clinical trials), and you best believe we were sprinklin’ it on everything, child!

tb+summit+004 Everywhere in L.A. Takes Twenty Minutes
Kirsten Lambertson from Beauty Riot, Nadine Haobsh from Jolie Nadine, Anne Fritz from Jet Set Girls, Tia Williams from Shake Your Beauty and Annie Tomlin from BellaSugar presented a discussion on blogging as a career. I took copious notes, asked questions, and hardly breathed during the hour-long session. These ladies are blogging rock stars, people – and I was so in awe of their talent.

Everywhere in L.A. Takes Twenty Minutes
Over lunch, they announced the Total Beauty Awards. From the more than 120+ blogs in the blog community, Spoiled Pretty won for “Best Content.” If greasiest face was a category, I probably would have taken that too.

Dusty+Simington Everywhere in L.A. Takes Twenty Minutes
Dusty Simington, award-winning hairstylist from Salon Gregorie’s in Newport Beach, had this to say about being in a hair rut: “If you look at your Christmas pictures and your hair looks the same from year to year, you’re uninformed and your hairdresser is lazy and tired.” Dusty also bemoaned Katie Holmes’ ubiquitous bob, remarking, “If you see it, kill it.” I was rolling!

redpoint+blush+duo Everywhere in L.A. Takes Twenty Minutes
I received a makeover and got some professional headshots done. The makeup artist used products from RAW Natural Beauty and Redpoint Cosmetics – and ever since, I have been infatuated with RAW Minerals Foundation, Redpoint Rejuvenating Blush Duo in Barely Rose, and Redpoint Volumizing Lip Gloss in Cuddle.

tb+summit+009 Everywhere in L.A. Takes Twenty Minutes
On Saturday night, we attended a Venice Beach VIP Party at Air-Conditioned Lounge. But by 11:45pm, Amber, Marina, and I were all partied out and went outside in search of our ride.

amber+daneen+and+marina+in+sun+valley Everywhere in L.A. Takes Twenty MinutesFortunately, the limo-bus was parked in the adjacent lot. Unfortunately, the driver was nowhere to be found. So we sat down on the curb and anxiously awaited his return.

Ten minutes before another bus finally showed up, a hoopdie full of teenagers drives by and one of the occupants asks us, “Are you guys coming from the prom?” Not knowing whether to be flattered or insulted, we simply said no. Then the girl adds, before driving off, “Well, you guys look good!” Ridic, right?

I brought home a ton of products that I can’t wait to review and knowledge that I can’t wait to implement. Many thanks to Total Beauty for affording me this amazing opportunity to better my blog and connect with the members of this incredible community!
