This week, VS PINK launched a Design-A-Tee contest where users can create and submit their own tee design for a chance to have their tee sold in stores and online and receive a VS PINK $500 shopping spree! A portion of the proceeds from the winning tee will be donated to the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

PINK will select the top three designs and let users vote on their favorite. The contest ends February 15th and PINK already has over 5,000 entrees.

Lancome Spring Color Collection 2009: Pink Irreverence

Audacious and emotional, free spirited and pioneering, radioactively gorgeous and sexy, Pink Irreverence, the latest color collection from Aaron De Mey, Lancôme’s new artistic director for makeup, takes inspiration from irreverent French heroines Madame Bovary, Sylvie Fleurie, Marie Curie and Brigitte Bardot. Just like the colors in the collection, these women have marked their eras with panache and embody the essence of pure and daring femininity.

Twisting the traditional codes of elegance, Aaron has created an impertinent color statement that pairs Spring pinks against rebellious blacks and potent shine against pure matte textures. The pinks are reminiscent of Lancôme’s iconic rose, while the deep black shades are evocative of the Piha volcanic black beaches of Aaron’s native homeland of New Zealand. Products are meant to be layered to create an array of stunning looks.

La Laque Fever Full Color Lipshine
Passionate about painting, Aaron De Mey wanted to recreate the purity of lacquer color in a lip product. Densely pixilated pearls combine with polymers to give multi-dimensional shine that lasts for six hours. The ultra-modern, silver streamlined packaging conveys all the color and shine contained within. Available in four daring, non-fading shades: Electric Pink, Optical Rose, Lucent Nude and Iridescent.

Color Design Eyeshadow Quad
Two new eye shadow palettes express the color statement and the free, irreverent spirit of Aaron’s spring collection. Use the black sparkling shade in the Irreverent Madame palette to structure the eye. Layer and play with the remaining matte pink shades to bring the look up or down.

Laque Liner
This eyeliner’s precise brush makes lining and defining easy and fun. The Pure Black shade is perfect for creating a deep intense look, while Pure Sparkle’s clear, shimmery formula instantly enlightens eyes.

Color Design Illuminator for Eyes and Face
This creamy, cooling gel can be used alone or blended over another color to highlight and brighten the eye area. Apply the light texture over your eyelid and up to the brow bone or experiment by bringing it from the eye down to the cheekbone to create a beautiful aura that lights up the face. Available in two shades: High Expectations and Hard to Get.

Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black
Back by popular demand, Piha Black adds an irreverent twist to the spring collection with its deep black and sparkly, volcanic beach inspired color. Used as a topcoat, the gloss brings a subtle dark intensity and brightness to other lip shades. Use alone for an edgier look.

Le Vernis Nail Polish
Take your nails to the extreme. For a dark sultry look, accessorize your nails with Piha Black, the same gorgeous, sparkly black shade found in the Color Fever Gloss. Lighten things up with Sassiness, a pink shade that, according to Aaron, “is the ultimate color of spring.”

Availability: January 2009 at, specialty stores, the five Lancôme boutiques and counters nationwide.

Heart of Desire: Behind the Collection with Francois Nars

“I think makeup today is about having the possibility of doing a million different looks.” -Francois Nars

Q. What is your inspiration for the Spring 2009 Collection?
“My inspiration was a very sexy woman. I wanted a bit of a ‘70s feeling, somewhere between Guy Bourdin and Chris Von Wangenheim’s photographs—aggressive, but very sensual and fragile at the same time.”

Q. The collection features a striking matte dusty red eyeshadow. Why red? And, how do you apply it?
“Why not? It makes blue and green eyes become brighter and it brings out the hazel in brown eyes. Apply it by itself or in combination with a pearly white shadow or simple black line.”

Q. You have two new products in the collection, the Blush Duo and the Duo Concealer. Why did you decide to combine two shades into one compact? What will you achieve with each?
“I love two-in-one products, they are always easier to use. The Blush Duo has one highlighting and one sculpting shade. It’s great to have two shades of blush to combine together to achieve the look you desire. The Duo Concealer contains one light shade and one dark shade, and can be used individually or blended together. The lighter shade brings brightness to the eyes while the darker one can be used to blend directly with skin tone.”

Q. Why did you decide to add glitter to some of the products in this collection?
“Glitter is like jewelry on the eyes or face. It brightens the iris of the eye and brings a very glamorous finish to makeup.”

Q. Overall, what is your favorite color combination from the Spring collection?
“I love the Baby Girl Single Eyeshadow with the Hungry Heart Blush Duo.”

Now I Understand Why Cosmetic Surgery Is So Addictive

Ever wondered what you’d look like after having some work done? Well, now you can – in theory. Thanks to a tip from Allure’s Daily Beauty Reporter, I happened upon LiftMagic – a website that offers “the world’s most advanced facelift, anti-aging, weight-loss, and cosmetic surgery simulation application, offering fully automated one-click makeovers in just seconds!”

To use LiftMagic, all you have to do is just upload your own photo and play digital plastic surgeon.

I’m not a fan of cosmetic surgery, so I was pretty surprised by how much fun I had with this site. After I uploaded my headshot, the psycho-perfectionist in me took over and made a trillion tweaks before she was through. Yes…LiftMagic is fun and funny. You’ll want to email your before and afters to everyone you know. But at the same time, LiftMagic gives you a glimpse into the addictive nature of cosmetic procedures. Except with real surgery, mistakes aren’t so easily undone.

Bottom line: Don’t let LiftMagic feed your insecurities. The most serious thing this website should be used for is “enhancing” your Facebook profile photo.

Check out my before and after* pics…

*My before pic had the following work done: eyebrow lift, around eye enhancement, beside eye enhancement, inner cheek enhancement, cheek lift, slight nose reduction and eyelid fold. I shudder to think how much I’d have to pay for someone to cut me up and make all of these augmentations. I bet I could also achieve the results above with some light-reflective concealer/highlighter, volumizing mascara, and contour powder.
