Nivea Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss Lip Butter

nivea vanilla macadamia kiss lip butter Nivea Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss Lip Butter

I need another lip balm like I need a hole in the head. But when I saw Nivea’s Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss Lip Butter while picking up some essentials at CVS, I couldn’t resist tossing a little non-essential treat into my basket. The name is perfectly apt – it goes on like butta and smells like (you guessed it) a vanilla-macadamia mashup. Imparts good moisture and gives the lips a healthy sheen. It’s packaged into a slim tin that conveniently stows in your pocket or the smallest of handbags (I keep mine in the car console)…although I kind of wish it came in stick form. I’m no germaphobe, but sticks just seem more sanitary.

Nivea Lip Butter is also available in Smooth Kiss, Raspberry Rose Kiss, Caramel Cream Kiss and retails for around $4.

DDF Discoloration Reversal Moisturizer

DDF Discoloration Reversal Moisturizer DDF Discoloration Reversal MoisturizerLate last year, my friends started to remark about how fabulous my skin looked. I quickly dismissed the first few compliments, thinking my pals were just being kind. But the flattery just kept coming and I started to wonder what all the fuss was about. Then one morning, I looked in the mirror and finally saw what everyone else was seeing. The dark marks around my jawline that have plagued me for years were almost gone – and my complexion was positively radiant. That’s when it all clicked…and my new moisturizer instantly achieved holy grail status.

DDF Discoloration Reversal Moisturizer promises to “effectively hydrate skin during the nighttime sleep cycle to help reduce the appearance of melanin build up, and help to achieve younger looking skin.” And boy does it ever. I’ve struggled with hyperpigmentation since puberty and have tested a ridiculous amount of products to minimize my the dark marks that acne and other blemishes have left in their wake. I’ve had good results with a handful of those products, but nothing comes close to the transformation I’ve witnessed with DDF Discoloration Reversal Moisturizer.

Not only did it practically obliterate my dark marks, it evened out my entire skin tone and imparted a glow that – up until now – I’ve only been able to achieve with makeup. What a welcome surprise! And the funny thing is that even though you’re supposed to use it twice a day, I only use it in the morning (I didn’t read the directions when DDF first sent me a bottle to review) and my friends noticed an improvement in my skin after just two weeks of using the product. Just imagine how quick you could see results if you actually use as directed! (more…)

Feeling Gray: Essie Nail Polish in Chinchilly

essie chinchilly nail polish Feeling Gray: Essie Nail Polish in Chinchilly I’m a gray nail polish kind of girl. Gray is what I naturally gravitate to when I’m at the nail salon or in the store shopping for new colors. It’s neutral and edgy all at the same time. Anyway, for the past four years, my favorite gray nail polish has been OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques! – a dark greige (combo of gray and brown). And I didn’t think any gray lacquer could get more love from me, until my mom (of all people) introduced me to Essie’s Chinchilly.

Mama Spoiled Pretty, who usually rocks bright and metallic manicures, tried Chinchilly on a whim and has been obsessed ever since. She wears it quite often, and when she does, I always notice her nails and tell her how nice they look. So this weekend, while spending the day at my parents’ house, I decided to try Chinchilly for myself. In the bottle, it looks like a lighter version of my OPI fave. But on my nails, the gray leans a little lavender – which gives it a more feminine feel. It also looks amazeballs with a sparkly topcoat.

The shade is universally flattering, which I don’t often say (because most of the time, it’s not true). Honestly, I’ve seen this color on tons of women and it looks great on everyone. I can’t believe it took me this long to get acquainted.

I love Jacques, but Chinchilly is what I’ll reach for – from now on – when I’m feeling gray.

Vaseline Intense Rescue Lotion Comes In Handy

This past weekend, I embarked one of my favorite winter activities. I channeled my inner Betty Crocker by baking some delicious oatmeal and walnut chocolate chip cookies with my son, Westley.

I’ve never made cookies with him, so I wasn’t expecting to make such a mess.  But to be fair, any activity with a 2-year-old boy is going to get your hands dirty.

Anyway, between the measuring, mixing and sectioning the dough on the baking sheet, we must have washed our hands at least six or seven times.  But, afterwards, my hands were no worse for wear – because right before I rewarded my tummy with a tasty treat, I treated my hands to a generous helping of Vaseline Intensive Rescue Lotion.

Vaseline Intensive Rescue Lotion is proven to relieve dry skin after just one application, so it was the first thing I reached for after the cookies went into the oven. It also helps to heal dry skin in three days, so slathering it on regularly has imparted softness that rivals my toddler’s.

Stratys-3, a multi-layer moisturizing complex, infuses and suspends moisture across multiple layers of the skin. Simply put, Vaseline Intensive Rescue instantly boosts moisture levels by 300% and delivers 24 hours of hydration because it doesn’t just sit on top of skin. It sinks in and delivers much-needed moisture to the top, the core and deep down…without leaving a greasy residue.

Vaseline Intensive Rescue comes in three variants:

Nifty Home Cosmetic Carousel

Nifty Home Cosmetic Carousel Nifty Home Cosmetic Carousel

I just spied this at Ideeli and I think I’m going to get it. Maybe two, actually.

I have pretty good organization system for my makeup arsenal. But to be quite honest, the products that I use often are scattered all over the place. Plus, this purchase would help me stick to my New Years resolutions.

The Nifty Home Cosmetic Carousel holds cosmetics and accessories, with a space-saving design takes up very little of your precious counter space. It’s originally $29.99 but Ideeli has it on sale for $19.99. It’s available in six colors: black, white, silver, cream, rose and pink (seen above).

Ideeli membership is free…click here for an invite, courtesy of Spoiled Pretty.

New Year’s Resolutions

New Years resolutions New Years ResolutionsHappy 2013, beauties!

I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season and I wish you good health, wealth and happiness in the New Year.

Speaking of the New Year, I have a few resolutions for 2013. Do you have any? I don’t usually buy into the whole resolutions thing, but I’ve had some self-improvement goals that I’ve put on the back-burner for too long. So this year, I’m making them official. And by posting them this year (and outing myself), I hope to hold myself accountable and accomplish most of them in the next 12 months.

So here we go…

1. Buy a house: Mr. Spoiled Pretty and I have been living the gypsy lifestyle for far too long. Renting, especially in this economy, has had its perks – but I’m ready to take the plunge. We live in a house now, but what I really want is a home. Some place for Westley to run and play, with a big backyard and room for the pet that my son has been begging for. This will be the year.

2. Lose 20lbs: I need to drop some serious poundage this year. I want to be healthier and look better in my clothes. When I think of how much time,  energy  and money I’ve spent trying to dress thinner – it’s probably way easier (and cheaper) to just work out more and exercise some portion control. After years of wishing, hoping and praying that the weight would just magically fall off, it’s time to face reality and work my ass off. Literally.

3. Cook more often: It’s not that I can’t cook. It’s just that I don’t enjoy it. I have a full-time job, I’m the mom of a toddler and I blog in whatever free time I can scrounge up. By the time I get home from work, I’m so exhausted that I typically heat up something frozen or have food delivered. That kind of lifestyle worked pre-Westley, but now I need to be a grown up and start making more healthy meals for my family. So, this year, instead of picking up the phone to call for pizza or sushi, I’m going to pick up some pots and pans and get cookin’.

4. Stop being a hoarder: Okay, so I’m not actually a hoarder…at least not to the extent you see on TLC. But I have a bad habit of holding on to things past their prime. So I’m resolving to de-clutter my life – and not just my house. I’m going to clean out my email inbox and keep it clean (unsubscribe from all of those newsletters and junk that I never read), stop using my purse as a repository for useless crap, and say sayonara to stuff that doesn’t serve me anymore.

5. Enjoy more me time: When I became a mom, my priorities completely changed. Hell, everything changed. I became selfless, to a fault, and I hardly ever take time to focus on myself. Almost everything I do is for others – and I feel guilty when I’m not worrying about or doing things for other people, particularly my family. But then I start to resent the fact that I’m exhausted and don’t do the things I enjoy as often as I’d like. I’ve realized that it’s me who’s been holding me back from more “me” time. So this year, any time my husband insists that he can handle the baby and that I should get out of the house, I’m going – even if I don’t have a plan or a destination. I’m just going to drive away and I’m not going to feel guilty.

I’m sure I could think of a few more things to add to this list, but these five are about all I can commit to right now. What are your New Year’s resolutions? Tell me in the comments.
