Beautiful Things My Mother Taught Me

Mom and me, circa 1979 Disclosure: This post is sponsored by CoverGirl. Mother’s Day is this Sunday and I’m so excited. Not just because Mr. Spoiled Pretty and my son, Westley, are treating me to a decadent brunch. But because it’s an opportunity to celebrate my hero, Andrea Stamps. I must admit that until two years ago, Mother’s Day was just another CONTINUE READING

Bath & Body Works 3-Wick Candles: 2 for $22

At Christmastime, I agonized over what to get my son's daycare teachers. There are 12 of them - and even though he has his two main teachers, they all have interaction with him and take excellent care of him. So I needed to buy 12 gifts to show my appreciation, without breaking the bank. $10 each seemed doable, except CONTINUE READING

IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Creme SPF 15

As a beauty expert, I’m embarrassed by how late I am to the BB Cream party. In the past year, so many friends and colleagues have asked me about BB Creams—what’s the buzz, which brands are the best, etc. —and they would look at me funny when I admitted to not having tried BB Creams yet. I mean, they CONTINUE READING

CoverGirl Outlast Brilliant Shine Nail Gloss in Vio-last

I’m very fickle about my fingernails. Before I paint my nails or get them professionally did, I spend a inordinate amount of time pondering my polish options. I consider the season, recent trends, my wardrobe that week and anywhere special I might go. But despite all of this planning, I’m usually over my polish choice before it even dries. My New Arm Candy: Rebecca Minkoff Swing Bag

After beauty products, handbags are my secondary addiction. But when it comes to arm candy, I have discriminating taste. For me, the perfect handbag seamlessly marries fashion with function, is handcrafted from high-quality materials, has really unique hardware and is classic but edgy - all at the same time. I don't like to carry the of-the-moment "it" bag. I CONTINUE READING

Mychael Knight Creates MajK

I am so amped up right now. As the 10 o’clock hour draws near, I am both delighted and distressed by tonight’s finale of Project Runway. I’ve been dying for a winner to be crowned; but at the same time, I want the season to go on indefinitely. The thought of PR-less Wednesday nights is making me twitch.

Anyway, speaking of Project Runway – my favorite contestant of all time, Mychael Knight, has expanded his repertoire. Majk, his new unisex fragrance, “transcends the boundaries of gender and has the ability to leave any man or woman breathless.”

majk2 Mychael Knight Creates MajKThe scent is a light, well-balanced blend of musk and floral notes “with whispers of exotic berries and vetiver.” Oooh! I can’t wait to get my hands (and pulse points) on this one.

If I manage to get a bottle of my very own, I’ll let you know if Mychael is – in the immortal words of Tim Gunn – making it work.

Majk is available at mychaelknight.com.

Desirable Giveaway

In February, Jennifer Lopez gave birth to twins Max and Emme. Congrats, J.Lo! That same month, she also debuted her sixth fragrance – Deseo.

Deseo Desirable Giveaway“Deseo means desire…wish…dream…things that you want. It just seemed perfect for this time in my life and what I am communicating to people. Which is to inspire them, and to dream, and to want more, and to never stop reaching for the things they want to accomplish in their lives – that’s really the sentiment behind it.” – Jennifer Lopez

Deseo is a floral, woody scent – inspired by the smell and feel of the air during a midnight walk in Jennifer’s flower garden, moments before a thunderstorm. The scent of orange blossom, jasmine and mimosa mingles with cedar wood and wet earth radiating energy and warmth.

The notes include:

A Radiant Top
Watery Bamboo Leaves, Garden Yuzu, Sicilian Bergamot, Freesia

A Voluptuous Heart
Star Jasmine, Pink Geranium Flower, Orange Blossom, French Mimosa

A Natural Base
Warm Amber, Oak moss, Sensual Musks, Creamy Sandalwood, Atlas Cedar wood, Patchouli, Mineral Accord

This was a very personal project for Jennifer, since it really focuses on going back to her roots, her Latin culture – so her approval was extremely important throughout the entire process. Jennifer was extremely involved in the print and television shoot, in which she worked with creative director Oliver van Doorne, and photographer Peter Lindbergh to make sure they were getting out of the shoot exactly what they wanted to convey in the ad – a sense of unrefined luxury.

If you desire Deseo, you’re in luck. Five lucky readers will win the Eau de Parfum spray (3.4 fl oz) and Desirable Body Lotion (6.7 fl oz) – retail value is $83.

To enter the giveaway, visit the jenniferlopezbeauty.com and find out the names of Jennifer’s first 5 fragrances. Then send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com – be sure to include the answers and your full name. The subject line should read “Deseo Giveaway.”

The contest ends at 9 pm EST on Sunday, March 9th. Winners will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Monday, March 10th, I’ll announce the winners’ names. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents. Good luck!

Halle In A Bottle

HalleBerry Halle In A BottleYou may not look like Halle Berry, but soon you’ll be able to smell like her. Today, Women’s Wear Daily announced that Coty has signed Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry to a scent development deal, which will involve the star developing a fragrance portfolio and appearing in its advertising.

“Halle is an iconic actress and symbolizes beauty to many generations,” Steve Mormoris, senior vice president of global marketing at Coty Beauty US, told WWD at the Personal Care Products Council’s annual meeting here. “She adds another dimension to the celebrity fragrance market. Halle has always been a little more mysterious, not quite as open with her personal life as some other stars. Her fragrances will allow her to present another facet of her personality to her fans.”

I don’t know if this fragrance deal will proclude her from being a Revlon spokeswoman. guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Halle’s first fragrance products are expected to launch globally in spring 2009. Coty’s celebrity portfolio also includes the scent brands of Jennifer Lopez, David and Victoria Beckham, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kimora Lee Simmons, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Kate Moss and Tim McGraw.

Diddy Didn’t Happen

seanjohn2 Diddy Didn’t HappenLast Friday, I was scheduled to be backstage at Sean John*. I was super excited to be attending the closing show of New York Fashion Week.

I fantasized that Diddy and I would meet, he’d be captivated by my charm, and then whisk me away to the star-studded soiree.

It would play out like that R. Kelly/Jay Z collabo:

After the show it’s the after party and
After the party is the hotel lobby and
After the Belve then it’s probably Cris…

But that didn’t happen. In fact, the closest I got to the Sean John show was a pizzeria on the corner of 22nd Street & 6th Ave. I was grabbing a bite there when I got a call from MAC telling me that there were no female models in the show, and therefore no need for MAC makeup. I was bummed, but also exhausted from my travels; so I caught an early train back to Philly.

So sorry, beauties. I know you were anxious for me to dish the Diddy dirt. C’est la vie.

If you absolutely need a Puffy fix, Glamour.com has an article entitled “Diddy knows pretty,” in which the hip-hop mogul/designer shares his observations on what makes a woman irresistible. Here’s an excerpt:

Why he named his perfume Unforgivable Woman:
“It’s about being unapologetic. It’s about having swagger. Confidence is such a sexy, sexy quality.”

Makeup trend he’s so over:
“Red lipstick just isn’t working for me. It might be good for an awards show, but it’s not hot to kiss. I love natural lip color—that’s always a good look!”

Biggest beauty obsession:
“Sugar Bath Cubes by Fresh. I take a bath every night. I love the way they make my skin feel. I have very soft skin—go ahead, touch it!”

For the rest of the interview, click here.

*Is it just me, or does the Sean John Fall 2008 collection look a little effeminate? I’m not judging…just sayin’.
