Rachel McAdams Sherlock Holmes Premiere Hairstyle

For the world premiere event of the highly-anticipated Sherlock Holmes movie, Sebastian Stylist Design Team Member Thomas Dunkin styled actress Rachel McAdams‘ tresses to complement her Grecian-inspired gown for a red carpet look that radiated grace and glam. All eyes were on Sherlock’s leading lady’s asymmetrical, loosely textured side braid.

Thomas shares styling tips for recreating Rachel’s red carpet look at home:

1) Start by applying a volumizing product like Sebastian Professional Texturizer to wet hair. Blow dry in sections, and pin each section in medium and large sized Velcro rollers throughout whole head and allow to set for 5-10 minutes.
2) Allow to cool then take down rollers, and spray hair with a dry shampoo for added texture.
3) Emulsify a small dab of Sebastian Professional Microweb Fiber between palms and run through top of hair. Backcomb front section and manipulate for height and volume. Secure with pins.
4) French braid bottom half of hair starting behind left ear and pin random remaining pieces into braid for haphazard, playful positioning.
5) Finish the look with Sebastian Professional Shaper Fierce for tousled movement and controlled hold.

Willow Smith’s Rihanna Hairstyle

I have issues with children sporting grown-up hairstyles. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for children expressing their individuality – but when I see toddlers and young kids with over-styled hair, I can’t help but feel that it’s the wackadoo parents expressing themselves through their offspring.

So when I saw photos of Will, Jada and their brood at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, I threw up my hands. Jaden’s untamed afro appears that it might swallow his head whole, but he’s 11 and that’s the kind of style the kids are into right now. Willow’s hair, on the other hand, is a whole nuther story.

I don’t care who the parents are…no 9-year-old should have a Rihanna haircut. I don’t know what Jada was thinking to let someone shave half of her baby’s head. That poor child is gonna have one hell of a time growing that mess out. You would have thought Jada would have learned something from Cassie’s tress transgressions.

What are your thoughts on minors with major hairstyles?

Be Warned, Ladies: Boys Are On To Your Bumpits

A few weeks ago, Mr. Spoiled Pretty left to meet up with some of his buddies and I stayed home to catch up on some blogging and bad reality television. Just as I was getting ready for bed that night, I received the following text message from my husband:

“What’s a Bumpit?”

Turns out our friend, Chris, noticed the waitress’s sky-high hairdo and asked her if she was wearing a Bumpit – like the one he had seen featured in the ubiquitous infomercials. There was no shame in the bar maid’s game…she fessed up to wearing a Bumpit, and seem amazed that Chris had guessed her pompadour partner-in-crime.

So what’s the moral of the story, chicas? Boys are getting wise to our beauty tricks. If you decide to rock the Bumpit, don’t be surprised when someone outs you…or if a candid pic ends up on the Bumpit Sightings Blog.

Rachel Roy Styles Her Hair with Nivea Hand Cream!

Designer Rachel Roy is unbelievably gorgeous with superhuman shine to her hair. I recently tweeted her up, asking how she manages to keep her hair so glossy glossy. Rachel responded, “I don’t put much in my hair, but whenever I do an updo I use a little Nivea hand cream.”

Isn’t it so unfair? I could sprinkle fairy dust in my hair and it would still look a hot mess.

Carol’s Daughter Best Tressed Hair Set: Holiday Beauty Gift Guide

This holiday beauty gift pick is for that follicularly challenged chick in your life. We all have that relative or friend whose hair is so dry, damaged or downright ratnesty that we’re compelled to help. So this holiday season, instead of hooking her up with a cute hat, buy her the Best Tressed Hair Set from Carol’s Daughter.

Like the right pair of shoes, a hairdo can make or break your outfit. Starting off with gently-cleansing Rosemary Mint Shampoo with Sea Moss for dry hair is a wise choice. Layer in moisture with Black Vanilla Leave-in Conditioner. Hair Milk, a light solution for brittle hair, adds luster with the help of lemongrass and ylang-ylang. The essential oils of sage and rosemary in Lisa’s Hair Elixir help combat dry hair and scalp while peppermint gives a refreshing tingle. Mimosa Hair Honey, an herbal-infused pomade, improves manageability and tames fly-aways so that the only thing catching anyone’s eye is your gorgeous hair!

I just tried Carol’s Daughter hair products tonight, for the first time. And let me tell you…they are just as awesome as everything you’ve heard. I’m extremely embarrassed to be so tardy for the Carol’s Daughter hair party; so I’m not just jumping on the bandwagon – I’m getting behind the wheel, y’all. After using the products in the Best Tressed Hair Set, my mane (which is usually the black hole of moisture and shine) is soft, shiny, wonderfully fragranced and feels so darn healthy that I’m in a state of shock.

What’s even more amazing is the fact that these products are all natural – free of the harsh chemicals that jacked up your hair in the first place. “I wanted lots of moisture and no synthetic preservatives,” says creator Lisa Price. “If I couldn’t pronounce the ingredient, it wasn’t going into the pot.”

The Best Tressed Hair Set is the gift that keeps giving. Your homegirl, and her haphazard hair, will thank you.

Taylor Lautner’s Must Have Hair Products

If you’re “Team Jacob,” this post is for you…

New Moon star Taylor Lautner is InStyle‘s December Man of Style. When the mag asked how he keeps his hair looking so perfect, Taylor answered KMS Hairplay and Redken Rough Paste. Now what I’d really like to know is what this kid is brushing with. I dare you to find me straighter, whiter chompers in Hollywood…natural, I mean; Hillary Duff’s chicklet teeth don’t count.

Taylor’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, graces the issue’s special 3-D cover.
