90s Ladies Week: Bright Eyed And Bushy-Tailed, Like Furby!

furby 90s Ladies Week: Bright Eyed And Bushy Tailed, Like Furby!
In the late 90s, my parents were among the 40 million people duped into buying Furby – a demonic-looking, furry robot troll that spoke its own language and antagonized children around the globe. You see, Furby loved to play…probably more than its adolescent owners. Furby didn’t care if my little sister had homework, had a headache or needed to sleep. Furby never tired of talking and would rarely hold its Furbish tongue. And in a matter of days, my sister’s favorite toy became the bane of her existence.

Furby didn’t have an off switch – so everytime she moved it, got close to it, or made a sound, Furby sprang to life…begging for attention. After a few frustrating weeks, my cranky and sleep-deprived sister decided to perform surgery on Furby. She fished my Dad’s screwdriver out of the toolbox and began to operate. Lauren loosened the screws hidden in Furby’s matted coat and removed the batteries. That was the end of Furby (R.I.P., little fella), and of my sister’s sleepless nights.

chanel+sublimage+eye+cream 90s Ladies Week: Bright Eyed And Bushy Tailed, Like Furby!Following Furby’s passing, my sister recovered in record time. Her irritable behavior was replaced by her normal cheery disposition. And after just a day or so, the darkness under her eyes receded. But that’s the beauty of 11-year-olds. They’re resilient little suckers.

At my age, it takes a little more to bounce back. For me to look bright eyed and bushy tailed in the AM, I need two things: Chanel Sublimage Eye Essential Regenerating Eye Cream and Branche Charmeuse Case.

Sublimage is an undereye cure-all, simultaneously targeting wrinkles, fine lines, bags, dryness and dark circles. The cream has a luminous quality that cancels out shadows, so you can also wear it during the day – in lieu of concealers – to appear awake and refreshed (even if you’re anything but).

branche+charmeuse+case 90s Ladies Week: Bright Eyed And Bushy Tailed, Like Furby! The Charmeuse Case is made of 100% silk and does so much more than merely protect your pillow. It prevents wrinkles by minimizing facial creases, extends the life of your hairstyle (no more tedious and damaging daily styling because sleeping on silk gives your hair more volume and shine), eliminates unnecessary hair loss or breakage and induces a deeper more restful sleep.

Chanel Sublimage Eye Essential Regenerating Eye Cream is available at Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom. Branche Charmeuse Case is sold at beautyhabit.com, shopintuition.com and bigelowchemists.com. To adopt a Furby, click here…though I don’t know why you would want to.

Until Now, Ponytails and Knit Hats Didn’t Mix

girl32 Until Now, Ponytails and Knit Hats Didnt Mix

I typically wear my hair in a ponytail at least five days a week. And during the cold Philadelphia winters, when I’m forced to wear a hat, I end up looking ridiculous with my ponytail or bun stuffed into my knit caps.

Girl 32 understands. Their pony-friendly hats marry fashion with function!

It’s a simple concept, really. A fashionable wool winter hat you can wear two ways – with your hair up, or down. Features Swarovski crystal buttons in the back, and comes in a variety of delicious colors. Smart girl. Smart hat.

how to1 Until Now, Ponytails and Knit Hats Didnt Mix
To wear: 1) Unbutton one button at the height of your ponytail. 2) Slip hat on, and pull ponytail through. 3) Voila! Now get out there and turn some heads.

The geniuses at Girl 32 also created the Smart Glove, featuring hooded fingertips on the thumb and forefinger…so you can dial your phone or apply lipstick, all without having to take off the entire cute glove you’re wearing. And be sure to also check out their Smart Scarf, with a hidden zipper pocket to stash your lipgloss, keys, bus pass or iPod.

Is There A Correct Order For Applying Hair Products?

You shampoo your hair. Then you apply a mis-mash of conditioner and styling products in an attempt to tame your mane. But is there a correct order for applying hair products post-shampoo? O, The Oprah Magazine’s beauty director, Valerie Monroe, sets the record straight.

valerie+monroe Is There A Correct Order For Applying Hair Products?Yes, that’s a good idea, says Eva Scrivo, owner of the eponymous salon in New York City, because each product has a different function.

After you shampoo, start with a conditioner or detangler to coat the hair so that the styling products you use next will be evenly absorbed. Follow that, if you like, with a mousse, styling gel, or styling lotion, which you should comb through your hair for even distribution, to increase the product’s effectiveness. (Combing through ensures that the stuff covers the whole strand instead of just lying on top of it, so you get more volume or moisture saturation or whatever it is you’re going for.) Finally, if your hair is frizzy or hard to control, work a silicone-based smoothing product through the ends before you blow-dry. After you’ve done your styling, you can use a spray for shine and hold, or, if you want a piecey look, try a texturizing wax.

Bottom Line: The magic formula is condition, style, then hold.

Danielle Fishel Dishes On Her Shampoo Commercial Hair: Grape Children’s Conditioner?

I am obsessed with The Dish.

thedish nav 260 Danielle Fishel Dishes On Her Shampoo Commercial Hair: Grape Children’s Conditioner? The Style Network’s new weekly wrap-up of red carpet trends, celebrity gossip and reality TV ridiculousness has quickly become one of my guilty pleasures. Since its August debut, I haven’t missed an episode. And I don’t have TiVo or DVR or any of that new-fangled technology, which attests to the addictive nature of The Dish.

Recently, I had the opportunity to interview the show’s saucy host, Danielle Fishel. Danielle is best known for her role as Topanga on Boy Meets World. But after watching one eppy of The Dish, you’ll be so impressed by this snarkstress’ sass and comic timing, the farthest thing from your mind will be Topanga’s saccharinely sweet romance with one Cory Matthews.

SP: If I opened up your handbag right now, what beauty products would I find inside?
DF: 42 types of lip balm! My favorite is Victoria’s Secret called “Balmy Night” because its really moisturizing. I also love Bobbi Brown for some color and MAC Plushglass. I dont need the plumping effect per se, but I love the tingling sensation and it doesnt ever leave that white film in the corners of your mouth! YUCK!

SP: What is your signature scent?
DF: I can’t really say that I have a signature scent because I LOVE perfume and have a large glass tray with over 30 kinds of perfume, ranging from clean to sweet to spicy. Sometimes I wear a different one every day of the week and other times, I stick with one for days on end. Some regular favorites are the original Bvlgari Omnia, Tiffany, and Juicy Couture.

SP: You’ve grown up on television, so surely you must have picked up afew makeup tricks/secrets. Care to share?
DF: No. Just kidding…I think my favorite trick is to do your eye makeup first, especially when doing a smoky eye, so that any loose powder that falls on your cheeks can be washed off without ruining the work you’ve done with your foundation!

SP: Danielle, you have shampoo commercial hair…I need to know what hair products you use.
loreal+grape+conditioner Danielle Fishel Dishes On Her Shampoo Commercial Hair: Grape Children’s Conditioner?DF: First of all, THANK YOU, and secondly, I wish there were some great secret I could tell you! I have never stuck with one product for very long although if you must know my longest lasting favorite it was whatever shampoo was on sale combined with Suave Go-Go Grape Children’s Conditioner!!! It has a detangler in it and smells delicious! L’Oreal Kids also makes a grape conditioner with a detangler but it doesn’t have a cool name like Go-Go Grape. simple smile Danielle Fishel Dishes On Her Shampoo Commercial Hair: Grape Children’s Conditioner? Outside of that, I do not use any products. I hate hairspray and serums and all of that. It just makes my hair feel heavy and weighed-down. I wash my hair and blow dry it with a metal round brush (I only wash and dry my hair once every 4-5 days which is why it is still healthy, but I’m lucky that I dont get greasy hair!) and then I go. I usually don’t even brush it again until it’s time to wash it.

Thanks, Danielle! See you Saturday night.
