If You Have Hair, The Wet Brush is a Must Have

For years, I have used an oversized wide-tooth comb to detangle my notoriously impossible to detangle post-shampoo hair. The amount of hair that would get caught in the teeth was somewhat alarming. But I chalked it up to the fact that I only wash my hair once a week - so maybe the hair loss really wasn't all that CONTINUE READING

GET THE LOOK: Abergel started by applying the Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Volume Styling Whip at the roots and working throughout the hair. Using a round brush, he blow-dried the hair straight, and spritzed the Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist for added shine. Adir curled the hair using a 1-inch curling iron, and sprayed with Fekkai Coiff Ocèanique Tousled Wave Spray to create the flirty texture. He then pulled the hair back loosely and secured it by knotting at the nape of the neck. To finish of the look, Adir sprayed Fekkai Advanced Sheer Hold Hairspray.

COLOR: Adir teamed up with Clairol Celebrity Stylist, Marie Robinson, to dye Kristen’s hair strawberry blonde. Abergel encouraged Stewart to return to her natural roots, and pulled images from the 1950′s for inspiration.
GET THE LOOK: To achieve Stewart’s strawberry blonde color, Abergel suggests using the Fekkai Salon Color 6R Copper-Lucy.

CHANEL Celebrity Makeup Artist Kate Lee worked with Bryce Dallas Howard at the Los Angeles premiere of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse on Thursday, June 24th. Follow Kate’s tips below to steal Bryce’s modern classic Hollywood look.

“Bryce’s skin is milky perfection and her hair a deep auburn, so I wanted to avoid doing the expected, and decided to go for a bold lip. Her skin was prepped with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Serum, and then I applied a mineral foundation. Her cheeks were CHANEL Powder Blush in Imprévu, which is a great mix of rose and bronze. I lined the eyes with the new CHANEL Intense Eye Pencil in Clair, and then went over the top with a pale pearlescent peach shadow from the new CHANEL Quadra Eye Shadow in Enigma to reflect the light. I then applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir. On her lips I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Cambon which I matted down into a stain. I used the clear CHANEL Brow Shaper to set her brows in place, and then off she went to the craziest premiere of the year! The fans had been camping out for a few nights already!”

For her winning red carpet coiff, star stylist David Babaii created a relaxed, Bridget Bardot inspired look. Luminous waves highlighted her luxurious titian-colored hair as it was pulled back on each side, accented with a subtle beehive with shiny, healthy beautiful hair cascading sensually down her back. Babaii released several strands to strategically fall forward and frame Bryce’s face for a modern 60′s effect.
David Babaii Explains How To Get The Look:
“I prepared Bryce’s hair by applying a small amount of argan oil-infused original Moroccanoil Treatment on damp hair before blow-drying to condition, strengthen and protect strands from the heat of the curling iron as well as to eliminate any sign of frizz or static. It absorbs instantly and speeds my blow-drying time so I can concentrate on styling. I love using Moroccanoil Treatment with flat or curling irons when I work because the hair becomes even better conditioned and healthier.
“Once the hair was dry, I applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to the palm of my hands then randomly finger-combed sections of the hair for natural looking hold. After making a center part, I used a curling iron to form loose, flowing waves that were easy to work and to tuck behind the ears. I then gently teased the hair at the crown to create a suggestion of a Bardot bee-hive, pinned the sides, and left a soft cascade of gorgeous hair flowing down her back. Next, I lightly misted Bryce’s hair using Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray for an extra boost of natural-looking shine to reflect her beautiful color, especially in the bright lights on the red carpet. It was important to me to give the hair a luminous, ethereal look, and perfect condition and lustre was essential.

“To hold the hair in place without compromising on shine or movement, I finished the style with new Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray, which is blended with Moroccanoil’s exclusive argan oil-infused formula. It sprays on in a soft, diffused mist and I love how touchable the hair feels, as well as so moveable with long-lasting hold that lasts all night long.”

Salon Rouge: Blown Away By My Blowout

Posted on by daneen in Hair, Hair Styling, Philadelphia, Philadelphia Phocus, Salon | Leave a comment

When it comes to beauty, few things make me happier than a professional blowout. I always feel my prettiest after someone tugs on my tresses with a round brush and blasts them with hot air. Why? Well, because I can get away with wearing my glasses, no makeup, jeans and a t-shirt – and still look totally fabulous. That’s the beauty of a blowout.

Salon Rouge: Blown Away By My Blowout
So when Salon Rouge invited me to get my hair did over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, you know I immediately RSVP’d with a resounding “YES!!!!”

While Salon Rouge isn’t exactly in my neighborhood (it’s located in Cherry Hill, NJ), I had such a wonderful experience that I would gladly cross state lines and pay the $3 bridge toll again for such sleek and chic hair.

First, hairstylist Heather shampooed me using Bumble and bumble Tonic Shampoo, which has Tea Tree Oil and Peppermint extracts to soothe my itchy/dry scalp, balance oil, stimulate circulation. I loved the tingle! Then she shampooed again with Bumble and bumble Alojoba Shampoo – a lightweight, moisture-rich smoothie that combines Aloe Vera Gel, Jojoba Seed Oil, Cucumber and Chamomile for soft, shiny hair. She followed up the shampoo with the Alojoba Conditioner, which also smoothes and softens.

Once the conditioner was rinsed out, Heather sprayed Bumble and bumble Tonic Lotion at the roots and all over to detangle and prepare my hair for styling; this leave-in conditioner is a must-have for those with dry, coarse, porous or colored hair. While my hair was still damp, Heather squeezed a couple drops of Bumble and bumble Defrizz into her hands and distributed throughout my hands. She explained that Defrizz is the perfect prep product before a blowout because it protects against frizz, acts as a barrier to humidity and leaves hair silky and flyaway-free – but she warns not to get overzealous because a little goes a long way.

Then Heather gave me a blowout that blew me away. It took almost no time at all, and she has a very gentle technique. My bangs were almost past my nose, so I asked her to shorten and thicken them up – and she trimmed them to perfection. Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I was so happy with my bangs. Finally, she sprayed my hair with Bb.Shine before flat ironing to protect and add a polished finish.

If you’re in the Greater Philadelphia/South Jersey area, I highly recommend you pay Salon Rouge a visit…and tell Heather that Spoiled Pretty says “hi.”

The Perfect Shower Cap by Blow

Posted on by daneen in Hair, Hair Styling | Leave a comment

My hair is damaged, fragile and likes to do the break dance – so I only wash it once a week. But I spend the other six days trying (often in vain) to prevent my hair from wilting or frizzing up. I’m a Living Proof disciple and use their No Frizz Straight Styling Treatment every time I shampoo, which averts weather-related hairdo disasters. Unfortunately, my mane’s main adversary is in my own home.

The shower and my chemically straightened hair are frenemies. Every seventh day, they get along great in a shampoo Shangri-la. But the rest of the week, I employ a shower cap to keep the steam from undoing the silky straightness. I have been wearing shower caps since I was a child, and I’ve tried them all. And no matter how much they cost – from the flimsy free ones you swipe from a hotel to the more expensive caps – they’ve always let me down. They inadvertently allow moisture in. Or the elastic band loosens, allowing strands of hair to escape the shower cap and get all soaked up. Don’t you just HATE that?

blow+the+perfect+shower+cap The Perfect Shower Cap by Blow

After decades of the shower (and sub par shower caps) putting a damper on my do, I didn’t think it was possible to make it an entire week without steam wrecking my blow dry/flat iron handiwork. That is, until I discovered The Perfect Shower Cap from Blow. Seriously, the name does not exaggerate.

The Perfect Shower Cap is designed to protect and prolong blow dry styled hair with its 100% terry liner that soaks up shower steam and moisture before it tackles the tresses. The cap, itself, is oversized to provide 360 degree protection by fitting over your entire hairline. A moisture-blocking seal along the edges provides a snug, comfy fit – and ensures that no tendrils go A.W.O.L.

I want to kiss the folks at Blow for sending me a press sample, because it’s changed my life. I know that may sound melodramatic, but when you have been using a defective product and then you find something that truly works, it’s like a miracle.

I’ll never use another shower cap. Never. It lives up to its name and delivers on all promises. Plus it looks super cute and comes in a case for easy travel and gym use.

So if you’re like the old me with a drawer full of shoddy shower caps that blow, you’d be a wise woman to invest $18 in The Perfect Shower Cap by Blow.
