Last week, I had the pleasure of touring 1154 LILL Studio‘s newest boutique. The 1154 LILL “design your own handbag” concept was born at a Windy City street fair in 1999 – and since its inception, 1154 LILL Studio has opened stores in Chicago, Boston, and Kansas City. I’m so excited that they’ve found a home in my hometown, Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia boutique boasts 1000 square feet, with wooden design tables throughout the space where customers can create the bag/accessory of their choice by mixing and matching some of the 150 available fabrics. The styles offered range from small cosmetic bags and headbands to large handbags and oversized totes, and cost between $26 and $200.
After touring the premises and hearing the company back story, I was elated to learn that 1154 LILL Studio was allowing me to create my own custom bag! For almost an hour, I played with fabrics, colors, and textures to make a fab bag for Spring. Here’s how the 1154 LILL Studio custom handbag concept works:
1) First pick your style of bag from over 25 current shapes and silhouettes in the line.
2) Mix and match colors, patterns and textures to select the right choice for each part of your bag: exterior, interior, pockets, straps, etc. 1154 LILL Studio introduces new fabrics every few weeks and have between 150 – 300 designer textiles available at any given time.
3) After placing your order, you simply have to wait 3 to 4 weeks for the 1154 LILL Studio team to hand craft it to your exact specifications. Your order will be shipped to you, or you can pick it up in one of the boutique locations.
Even though my bag is currently in the hands of the Chicago-based production team, here’s a sneak peek at my Spoiled Pretty satchel…
Adorable, right? Even if you don’t reside anywhere near one of their boutiques, a one-of-a-kind 1154 LILL Studio creation is at your fingertips – thanks to their online store. 1154lill.com is open 24/7 – and the customization tool lets you see your bag as you design it.
Wait…it gets better. 1154 LILL Studio has graciously donated a $100 gift certificate, so that one lucky Spoiled Pretty reader can design her very own creation!

This time last week, I was runnin’ around NYC feeling awful (unbeknownst to me, I had acute bronchitis), but looking fierce – thanks to my pals at Perlina Handbags.
They gave me a totally posh purse for my last day at the tents. As if that wasn’t enough, they upped the ante by inviting me to their showroom…talk about being spoiled pretty!
The Perlina showroom – located a hop, skip, and a jump from Bryant Park – was like a dream; it was handbag heaven, to be quite honest.
There were bags of every color imaginable, and purses for every personality. For a bag junkie like me, it was almost too much. The temptation was great. For a brief moment, I imagined that I was on a handbag version of Supermaket Sweep; I scanned the shelves, racks, and displays – trying to decide which bags I’d grab first.
I know what you’re thinking. You’re saying to yourself, “Great. Here’s another story about Daneen getting free stuff. I’m sick of hearing about her fantastical adventures.” Well, if that’s you’re attitude, you’re about to feel real salty…because Perlina has oh so generously bequeathed me another bag for a Spoiled Pretty giveaway!!!!
Oh, now we’re BFF’s again? I see how it is.
Not only will one of you win this absolutely gorgeous handbag (see, left), I’m going to “fill” it with all sorts of beauty booty. You heard me right. That’s just how I do.
The winner of the Perlina purse will also receive:
Five lucky runners-up will receive one of my new favorites – CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara!!! This mascara is hard to come by because it’s become an instant cult classic, so here’s your chance to get you some.
To enter, you must be a Spoiled Pretty subscriber. Subscribing is simple and quick – just click here, but don’t forget to verify your email address. You must verify in order to be eligible.
The contest ends at 9 pm EST on Tuesday, February 19th. Winners will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Wednesday, February 20th, I’ll announce the winners’ names. Please, only one entry per person. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents. Good luck!
The time has come to announce the winner of the Hype Handbag Giveaway. I received a lot of entries, so I know that many of you were crossing your fingers for this one. Unfortunately, I only have one bag to give away…and the winner is Brandy Coyne.
Congratulations, Brandy – you are the proud new owner of Hype’s Paloma North South Tote (in Watermelon).
If your name isn’t Brandy Coyne but you still fancy yourself a winner – check back later today and throughout the week. In honor of Valentine’s Day, Spoiled Pretty wants to show our lovely readers some love…so there will be several mind-blowing contests this week. The next one is just hours away. Do you feel lucky?
As much as I wanted to stick around for the whole of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week – Fall 2008, I had to travel to Dallas for a business trip. So I reluctantly said TTFN to NYC.
I did return on February 8th for more beauty, fashion, and fun (more on that later).
And check out my purse. Isn’t it a work of art? It’s the Diana Large Hobo by Rafe, and I’m in love with it. The metallic patent leather is so sumptuous, but the deerskin-embossed leather trim lends a sporty edge. I wore it all over New York for Fashion Week, I took it on my Dallas trip, and I’ve been running errands with it since I returned home. It truly does work in any situation.
I’m a lucky gal because designer Rafe Totengco, also a fellow blogger, gifted this bag to me – along with a note of encouragement (see, left).
Enjoy the bag & blog it out!
Can you get over that? I’m still pinching myself. Rafe’s gorgeous creations and impeccable customer service are undoubtedy the reason why this award-winning designer has such a loyal celebrity fanbase, including Jessica Alba, Vanessa Minnillo, and Eva Longoria (who even commissioned Rafe to create clutches for her bridesmaids).
Thank you, Rafe – for making feel, and look, so special for Fashion Week!
Following my rendezvous with Nigel Barker, I hailed a cab and was off again. This time, I was headed to meet my friend, Samara, for some mid-day caffeine. Samara reps brands such as CoverGirl, Max Factor, and Head & Shoulders; she is so generous with samples for me to try, and keeps me in the know about new product releases and cosmetic trends.
The coffee shop where we had intended to meet was – for some odd reason – closed at 4pm on Saturday. So we walked to a nearby Starbucks that, unfortunately, didn’t have seating. Luckily, there seem to be a coffee joint on every other corner in NYC – so we settled on a Cosi.
Samara and I had never actually met before…we have just corresponded via email. But I immediately found her to be so warm and friendly that it was like we were old friends. We chatted about the New York Times article, gushed about our mutual love for CoverGirl’s Lash Blast Mascara, and threw around some ideas for a kick-arse giveaway (coming up soon).
Here’s Samara and I playing candid camera outside of Cosi. Don’t ya just love my bag? When my husband first saw it, he exclaimed, “Daneen, it’s bigger than you are!”
True, but when you’re rushing between runway shows, meetings, and social events, there are two things to remember: cute (but comfortable) shoes, and a spacious shoulder bag. This one, the Budapest Slouchy from My Flat In London, easily lugged all of my stuff – and still had plenty of room for all of the press kits and product samples I acquired along the way.
Plus, when you’re rubbing elbows with fashionistas all day, you’d better dress to impress – and that extends to your handbag.
On Friday, I took Amtrak up to New York City just in time for a TotalBeauty.com and Aveda sponsored dinner at Koi. Nestled in the Bryant Park Hotel, the restaurant is a stone’s throw from the white tents.
More than 25 beauty bloggers mingled, dined on delectable selections from the Japanese/California menu (I highly recommend the Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, and the Miso-Bronzed Black Cod), and talked (beauty) shop.
Marina, me, and my Hype purse. I luvre this bag! I’m a woman who carries everything in her purse, and this one easily held the usual contents, plus all of my fashion week essentials. Camera? Check. Dictaphone? Check. Memo pad and pens? Check. Extra pair of ugly/comfy shoes for when your dogs start barking? Check. Fifteen lip glosses? You betcha.
Besides being functional, this handbag is clearly also fashion-forward. The buttery soft leather and stylish hardware had heads turning – even at a chic eatery like Koi. Jealous? Don’t be. It’s giveaway time again, and Hype is the generous benefactor.
One lucky (what an understatement) winner will receive the Paloma North South Tote (in Watermelon) pictured, left. You won’t believe how beautiful it is. With this roomy tote, you can literally live out of your bag. No more agonizing over which makeup you absolutely need in your purse – because there’s room for all of that, and a bag of chips! The retail value of this prize is $325!
To enter: *Name one of the beauty products that Fern Mallis (the SVP of IMG Fashion and the brains behind New York Fashion Week) carries in her bag. Hint: I wrote this post in October.
