A Cheeky Makeup Trick, Plus My New Favorite Product!

incandescent+cheekbones+2 A Cheeky Makeup Trick, Plus My New Favorite Product!
For what seems like forever, I have been seriously coveting the incandescent cheekbones I’ve seen on every model, actress, songbird, and reality star looking to extend her 15 minutes. And until recently, I came up with nothing.

incandescent+cheekbones A Cheeky Makeup Trick, Plus My New Favorite Product!Product after product promised me unimaginable radiance. Unfortunately, nothing panned out. In fact, the majority of these lying highlighters left my tan skin looking either disco glittery or matte and ashy – both, the antithesis of what I was going for.

But I didn’t give up hope. After a long and fruitless pursuit, I took a trip to where I should have gone in the first place. MAC, where makeup dreams come true.

At the MAC counter in the King of Prussia Nordie’s, I met a makeup artist named Dylan who happened to be wearing the most ridiculously wicked eyeliner EVER – and I just knew that she would be the one to lead me to the chiseled cheekbone promised land. Despite my lame attempt to describe what I was trying to achieve, Dylan knew exactly what I was saying and what I needed to replicate the look.

mac+cream+colour+base+in+hush A Cheeky Makeup Trick, Plus My New Favorite Product! She led me over to MAC’s Cream Colour Base display and picked up Hush, a soft pale peach with icy shimmer that I would have never touched. With the 252 Large Shader Brush, she dabbed the slightest bit of the Cream Colour Base on the top of my cheekbone – extending the line up to my temple – then buffed it into the skin, for a seamless appearance. Next, she blended in a bit more product…this time, from my temple up onto my brow bone. “Creating this sideways V gives the face a lifted look,” Dylan said.

Just in case you were wondering, this technique is super simple to master. The next night, I met up with my BFF Kristen, who marveled at my new-and-improved bone structure. I swear, ladies – just the slightest hint of Hush (in strategic places) gives you this lit-from-within glow.

Merci, MAC and Dylan…for coming up big where all of the other brands fell short. And for inspiring this cheeky post. Mwah!

All I Need Is A Miracle, All I Need Is You

modelco+miracle+veil All I Need Is A Miracle, All I Need Is YouMy complexion is far from perfect. Like many of you, I struggle with acne, dark circles, hyperpigmentation and rednesss. But masking these imperfections with foundations and concealers can lead to a vicious cycle. Yes, heavy face makeup camouflage your problem areas, but they can exacerbate skin issues, rendering you more dependent on these products. Besides, I’m not the kind of gal who likes wearing base on the regular. Boo hoo. What to do?

ModelCo (the whiz kids behind Body Meringue and Shimmer Airbrush Illuminiser) just unveiled Miracle Veil Skin Perfecting Fluid, a light-weight skin corrector that minimizes imperfections, disguises redness, lightens pigmentation, evens out skin tone and protects skin with SPF 14.

When I first took a chance on Miracle Veil, I was absolutely perplexed. It’s green, so I was extremely hesitant to rub it all over my mug. I thought to myself, “How in the ham sandwich will smearing this mint colored mess all over my face make me look better?” But the beauty of most beauty products is that they wash off. So I gave it a try, figuring that I had nothing to lose – other than a few flaws.

Well, let me tell you…they don’t call it Miracle Veil for nuthin’. It brightened my skin tone, whisked away the shadows beneath my eyes and enhanced my skin’s luminosity. Wearing Miracle Veil is akin to traveling with your own lighting crew. So I can dare to go bare. The product also acts as a primer for optimized makeup application; it cancels out darkness and redness, so your foundation and concealer don’t need to work as hard. But the benefits don’t end there. Miracle Veil doesn’t just hide imperfections, it heals the skin.

White Mulberry Root Extract balances skin pigmentation and protects against future discoloration. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory, soothing and calming the skin to combat redness with anti-bacterial properties. Hawthorn Extract prevents the visible appearance of wrinkles while treating pigmentation and uneven skin tone. And Phospholipids create a protective barrier while reducing water loss and protecting against environmental pollution.

So if you look in the mirror and it seems like you’ve stumbled into some bad lighting, don’t hope for a miracle. Just go out and buy one.

Miracle Veil is available at Henri Bendel, Sephora, Beauty Bridge and modelco.com.au.

Sometimes Not Reading Labels Actually Pays Off

mineral+water Sometimes Not Reading Labels Actually Pays Off
For the past few weeks, I have been applying Too Faced Mineral Water Eye Brightener to the inner v of my eyes to make my peepers pop. The nudish beige shade has a slight sheen that is the perfect marriage of matte and shimmer. I’ve been searching for such an eye pencil for forever…but the irony of it all is that this is not the product’s intended use.

In doing research for this review, I learned that the Mineral Water Eye Brightener was actually created to banish dark circles and allow the wearer to fake a restful 8 hours of sleep. I have since tried it under my eyes and have, consequently, fallen a little deeper in love with Too Faced.

As an added bonus (like you need any more reason to pull out your wallet), the pencil contains more than 35% mineral water – which makes it cool to the touch, while de-puffing and improving skin’s firmness elasticity and circulation.

Mineral Water Eye Brightener is available at Beauty.com, Nordstrom, Ulta, Sephora and toofaced.com.

New York Fashion Week: Beauty and Bags and Boots, Oh My!

fw New York Fashion Week: Beauty and Bags and Boots, Oh My!
I have so many untold NY Fashion Week stories, you don’t even know. I’ve been meaning to get back to my FW reporting, but I have been up to my eyeballs at work, and busy co-chairing the Total Beauty – Total Cure Breast Cancer Awareness campaign with the hilariously snarkalicious Amber.

So hop into my DeLorean, switch on the Flux Capacitor, and let’s rev this baby up to 88 mph. We’re going back in time…

During New York Fashion Week, L’Oreal held an exclusive blogger event, and I was one of the lucky few on the invite list. At an expansive and gorgeous townhouse – complete with a tdf courtyard – I sipped mimosas, noshed on blueberry pancakes and chatted up some of my cosmetics-craving colleagues. As a parting gift, L’Oreal presented us all with Fashion Week survival kits, packed with a festival of goodies. It was then that I was formally introduced to my new fave lippie, HIP Jelly Balm.

Here’s me and Amber. Fix your eyes on the chicness that is my Krina handbag. The Calista Tote (in Azure) is both functional and feminine, made of rich Italian leather and accented with gold-plated hardware and flirty tassels. The Calista is oft seen on the fabulous fashionplate, Katherine Heigl!

Later that day, Amber and I popped by the Boots booth at the Bryant Park tents, and were introduced to one of my Fashion Week beauty discoveries. No7 High Lights Illuminating Lotion
is a pearly lotion that contains light reflecting particles to illuminate your skin exactly where you want it, while diffusing imperfections such as fine lines and wrinkles. Highlight your cheekbones or brow bone to look truly radiant…or mix with foundation for an all-over glow.

It’s Fresh, Exciting*: New Products From Fresh, Coming This Fall

fresh+fall+2008 Its Fresh, Exciting*: New Products From Fresh, Coming This Fall
This fall, Fresh will expand its fragrance portfolio with a new scent, Strawberry Flowers, created in celebration of Sephora’s 10th anniversary. The company is also expanding its bath and body, skin care and makeup offerings with a bevy of new beauty products.

Launching exclusively at Sephora in September, Strawberry Flowers Eau de Parfum is a fruity floral scent, designed specifically for a younger, Sephora customer. The fragrance, inspired by the scents of a typical spring morning, is composed of top notes of mandarin, yuzu and white peach, middle notes of mountain strawberries, freesia, orange blossom and osmanthus, and base notes of orris, musk and white woods.

Also in September, Fresh will debut the Fig Apricot body care collection, based on its top-selling Fig Apricot Eau de Parfum, which launched a decade ago. The collection will include a bath/shower gel and a body cream and will be sold at Barneys, Neiman Marcus, Sephora, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bluemercury.

Fresh’s fall color collection includes the Imperial Bedroom Face Palette, and a new Firebird Mascara. The palette’s cream-based colors include iridescent pearl and warm antique gold eye shades, an opalescent black eyeliner, a shimmer highlighter for the cheeks and a deep red gloss for the lips. Inspired by a Russian fairy tale and based on the company’s best-selling mascara, Fresh Supernova, Firebird is designed to thicken, lengthen and curl lashes. “Supernova gives your lashes a thick, dark and more defined look, whereas the soft lightweight fibers on the Firebird brush gives it a feathery and flirty feel,” said Alina Roytberg, Fresh’s co-founder and creative director.

Fresh+Twilight+Freshface+Glow Its Fresh, Exciting*: New Products From Fresh, Coming This FallFresh has also come out with Twilight Freshface Glow, a multifunctional illuminating cream. The primer is designed to be used as a highlighter along cheekbones, brow bones and décolletage. On the retail front, Fresh has plans to open several freestanding stores by the end of the year.

This month, the company will open a location in Century City, Calif., followed by another store in Dallas’ Northpark Center in October. The company is also looking to open a store in Philadelphia (oh please, please…with Sugar Lip Treatment on top!) along with additional stores in the Northeast.
