Susana Monaco Flutter Tube Dress

susana monaco flutter tube dress 1 Susana Monaco Flutter Tube Dress

I just had to share how much I adore this Susana Monaco Flutter Tube Dress I just bought from Shopbop.com.  I’m usually very hesitant to buy clothing online because I’m short and curvy and I can’t be assured that something will look right until I try it on. And even when I do buy clothes off the Internet, they’re almost always petite clothes because the proportions on regular clothes make me look like I got dressed in front of a funhouse mirror. But I decided to take a chance on this dress because a) I don’t have any cute going out dresses in my closet, b) this dress is so cute it’s ridiculous and c) it’s on sale for 50% off.

Well, I’m glad I decided to live dangerously because the dress fits amazing and is the most flattering thing I’ve bought in a long time. The double-jersey knit hugs without being restrictive. Plus since it’s not thin, you don’t have to worry about it showing any lumps and bumps. The peplum on top of the skirt plays hide-and-seek with the areas I’m most self conscious about, and makes this body-con dress more wearable for those of us without model bodies. And the color just screams summer, right?

This dress is so hot, I’m building an entire girls’ night around it.

If you’re as enamored with this dress as I am, act quick…it’s going fast. But be sure to check out Susana Monaco’s other dresses Shopbop.com – she’s no one hit wonder.

PS – Gilt actually has a sale of Susana Monaco going on today. So check that out for more options.

DDF Discoloration Reversal Moisturizer

DDF Discoloration Reversal Moisturizer DDF Discoloration Reversal MoisturizerLate last year, my friends started to remark about how fabulous my skin looked. I quickly dismissed the first few compliments, thinking my pals were just being kind. But the flattery just kept coming and I started to wonder what all the fuss was about. Then one morning, I looked in the mirror and finally saw what everyone else was seeing. The dark marks around my jawline that have plagued me for years were almost gone – and my complexion was positively radiant. That’s when it all clicked…and my new moisturizer instantly achieved holy grail status.

DDF Discoloration Reversal Moisturizer promises to “effectively hydrate skin during the nighttime sleep cycle to help reduce the appearance of melanin build up, and help to achieve younger looking skin.” And boy does it ever. I’ve struggled with hyperpigmentation since puberty and have tested a ridiculous amount of products to minimize my the dark marks that acne and other blemishes have left in their wake. I’ve had good results with a handful of those products, but nothing comes close to the transformation I’ve witnessed with DDF Discoloration Reversal Moisturizer.

Not only did it practically obliterate my dark marks, it evened out my entire skin tone and imparted a glow that – up until now – I’ve only been able to achieve with makeup. What a welcome surprise! And the funny thing is that even though you’re supposed to use it twice a day, I only use it in the morning (I didn’t read the directions when DDF first sent me a bottle to review) and my friends noticed an improvement in my skin after just two weeks of using the product. Just imagine how quick you could see results if you actually use as directed! (more…)

Feeling Gray: Essie Nail Polish in Chinchilly

essie chinchilly nail polish Feeling Gray: Essie Nail Polish in Chinchilly I’m a gray nail polish kind of girl. Gray is what I naturally gravitate to when I’m at the nail salon or in the store shopping for new colors. It’s neutral and edgy all at the same time. Anyway, for the past four years, my favorite gray nail polish has been OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques! – a dark greige (combo of gray and brown). And I didn’t think any gray lacquer could get more love from me, until my mom (of all people) introduced me to Essie’s Chinchilly.

Mama Spoiled Pretty, who usually rocks bright and metallic manicures, tried Chinchilly on a whim and has been obsessed ever since. She wears it quite often, and when she does, I always notice her nails and tell her how nice they look. So this weekend, while spending the day at my parents’ house, I decided to try Chinchilly for myself. In the bottle, it looks like a lighter version of my OPI fave. But on my nails, the gray leans a little lavender – which gives it a more feminine feel. It also looks amazeballs with a sparkly topcoat.

The shade is universally flattering, which I don’t often say (because most of the time, it’s not true). Honestly, I’ve seen this color on tons of women and it looks great on everyone. I can’t believe it took me this long to get acquainted.

I love Jacques, but Chinchilly is what I’ll reach for – from now on – when I’m feeling gray.

Holiday Gift Guide 2012: beautyblender Air.Port Pure Kit

beautyblender sponge Holiday Gift Guide 2012: beautyblender Air.Port Pure KitIf you’re applying your foundation with anything but the beautyblender sponge, you’re doing it wrong.

The point of foundation is to fool the eye of the beholder into thinking you were blessed with a flawless complexion. But if you’re applying it incorrectly, or with inferior tools, you just look like you’re wearing a makeup mask. The difference between foundation that looks like foundation and foundation that looks like skin is beautyblender.

Since I was introduced to beautyblender in 2007, we have been in a monogamous relationship. It is the only tool I use to apply my foundation. beautyblender’s elliptical shape allows you to access hard-to-reach areas with ease. Its suede-like texture repels product, so your foundation actually ends up on your face – rather than absorbed by the sponge. And its unique curves fit the contours of your face, leaving your makeup dazzling and undetectable.

I even use it to apply my concealer and cream blushes. beautyblender can also be used with moisturizers, eye treatment serums and lotions, makeup primers and makeup removers to be a truly hygienic, gentle way to ensure optimal use of the most advanced skin care products.

And if you have problem skin, I can’t recommend anything better for magically disguising blemishes and hyperpigmentation. beautyblender is reusable (perfect for those green gals), latex-free, non-allergenic, and odor free…and makes the PERFECT holiday gift. (more…)

A Rosa Arctica by Any Other Name…

rosa arctica A Rosa Arctica by Any Other Name...

In the winter of 2011, I was introduced to Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream – and whatever moisturizer I was using at the time went by the wayside. I honestly don’t remember which moisturizer came before (and who cares, really) but I do remember that it couldn’t compete with the Rosa Arctica results. After using it for not that long, I noticed a significant improvement in my skin. During the colder months, my skin is Sahara dry and there are only a few moisturizers on the market hydrating enough to quench its thirst; Rosa Arctic is one of them. But it gets better; the thick cream also smoothes, reduces lines and wrinkles, improves firmness and gives it a youthful glow.

Rosa Arctica Youth Regenerating Cream is so fabulous that it pains me when I retire it for the spring and summer months, when my face turns into an oil slick of BP proportions. As it turns out, I wasn’t the only one wishing for a lighter version of this must-have moisturizer. In response to customer demand for a lightweight texture, Kiehl’s just launched Rosa Arctica Lightweight Cream.

Kiehl’s, knowing how much I adore the original, sent me a sneak peek of the new formulation and I have been using it faithfully for a few weeks. I love it as much as the original and I’m so thrilled that I can now use Rosa Arctica year-round. (more…)

On Point Pencil: L’Oreal Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner

Don’t you just hate when you buy an eye pencil that doesn’t write right? I hate that. I mean, who wants an eyeliner that you have to draw on several times for it to actually show up?  My philosophy for eyeliner – and for most color cosmetics, for that matter – is that it must deliver on pigment payout. Otherwise, I want my money back.

I recently discovered a liner that is worth much more than its $9 price tag. It’s so fabulous, in fact, that it smolders. (more…)

OPI I Have a Herring Problem

OPI I Have a Herring Problem2 OPI I Have a Herring ProblemAfter my gorgeous Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI? manicure started looking a little jacked (after weeks of abuse), I decided to follow it up with another polish from OPI’s Holland Collection. It was a difficult choice, as OPI sent me the entire set for review AND every bottle is a beauty. I considered painting every piggy in a different polish, but decided that would look a lil’ cray cray. So after much deliberation, the finalists were I Don’t Give a Rotterdam! and I Have a Herring Problem – two shimmer-laced blues. I decided on the latter because it’s darker and reads a little more gray (gray nails are my everything!) against my skin tone.

Over the years, I’ve amassed quite a collection of nail polishes (I probably own 200+ shades) and I don’t have anything quite like I Have a Herring Problem. In the bottle, it’s kind of a green blue. But worn, it’s looks more gray. And depending on the light, it either reads more blue or more gray. And the subtle, silver micro-shimmer makes it special without venturing into disco ball territory. OPI Holland Collection: Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI?

opi holland collection nail polish OPI Holland Collection: Dutch Ya Just Love OPI?One of my New Years resolutions is to step up my manicure game. Last year, taking care of nails took a back seat to taking care of Westley. But now that my son is 18 months old and a little more equipped at occupying himself with the tons of toys I lavish upon him (he is truly a spoiled pretty baby), I have more opportunities to stick to the game plan.

Last month, OPI was nice enough to feed my polish addiction by sending me all twelve shades from their new Holland Collection. I was excited by the press release and images OPI sent me in advance of the actual samples, but seeing the colors in person gave me a newfound respect for the genius of Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. If ever there was a polish collection to purchase in its entirety, it’s this one. STUNNING – every single shade! (more…)
