If You Have Hair, The Wet Brush is a Must Have

For years, I have used an oversized wide-tooth comb to detangle my notoriously impossible to detangle post-shampoo hair. The amount of hair that would get caught in the teeth was somewhat alarming. But I chalked it up to the fact that I only wash my hair once a week - so maybe the hair loss really wasn't all that CONTINUE READING

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Cover April Issue of Vogue

Welp, folks, it looks like Kanye finally wore Anna Wintour down and got his baby mama a coveted Vogue cover. So the rumors were true. There was buzz a few months back that Kim would cover the fashion bible, but then everyone assumed it would be a foreign Vogue - given Anna's alleged aversion to all things Kardashian. Clinique Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream

Posted on by daneen in Dry Skin, Eczema, Holy Grail, Moisturizer, Skin Care | Leave a comment

clinique+comfort+on+call+allergy+tested+relief+cream Clinique Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief CreamA few weeks ago, my skin just up and decided to stage a mutiny. My upper body broke out in a rash. From my hairline all the way down to my torso, I was covered in itchy, sandpaper-like bumps (I now suspect eczema was the culprit). My lips didn’t even escape unscathed; they were bumpy and inflated to almost twice their normal size. And on the worst day, my left eye was so swollen and droopy, I looked like a female Forest Whitaker.

As the days wore on, the bumps started to dry out and my skin became dessicated and extremely flaky. It was as if I was a snake, shedding an exoskeleton. The dryness of my face was unbearable. With every facial expression or movement of my mouth, it seemed like my skin would literally tear; it was so painful. Up until this point, I had only been using Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser – as it was all that my traumatized skin could handle. But it begged for more, so I dug through my skin care arsenal looking for a moisturizer substantial enough to quench my skin’s thirst, but gentle enough not to send it into another tizzy. I hit the jackpot when I came across a sample of Clinique Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream that the brand sent me a few months ago to review.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about this cream. My skin is the true testament. After just a few days of using Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream, I started to recognize the reflection in the mirror again. And now that the rash (and its remnants) are almost gone, I continue to apply the cream after cleansing in the AM and PM.

According to Clinique, I’ve got their “exclusive, patent-pending Enviro-Soothe™ Complex” to thank for soothing and saving my face. Clinique also promises that when “used over time, it strengthens skin’s lipid barrier to support natural healing.”

Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream also works wonders on dry, cracked hands. I can’t think of a better winter skin care pick than this one; it earns Holy Grail status. If you suffer from reactive, sensitive or dry skin, you’d be a smart gal to add it to your shopping list.

Clinique Comfort On Call Allergy Tested Relief Cream is available at clinique.com, Sephora, Bloomingdale’s, and Nordstrom.

 I TEMPTU. Do You?

I recently received the TEMPTU Airbrush Makeup System to test and review for Spoiled Pretty, and I’m really dreading having to give it back. That’s how amazing it is. Watch the video to find out why I’m awarding TEMPTU with ‘holy grail’ status.

TEMPTU is a great holiday beauty gift (the recipient would love you forever). The TEMPTU Airbrush Makeup System is available at Sephora and costs $225. A duo of foundation pods (there are 12 shades) costs $55. Blush pods (4 shades) are $30 and highlighter pods (4 shades) are $35 each.

rebecca+minkoff+stud+devote Rebecca Minkoff Black Friday Weekend Online Sale!

rebecca+minkoff+stud+devote+handbag Rebecca Minkoff Black Friday Weekend Online Sale!Rebecca Minkoff’s Stud Devote handbag (above) is my handbag soulmate. I am OBSESSED with this bag, and you can see why. If I could design the perfect purse, this would be it. I love its modern sophistication with rock and roll edge.

The Stud Devote is a conversation piece. Every time I wear it, strangers stop me on the street. In fact, earlier this week when I swung by my local Starbucks to pick up a Caramel Brulee Latte (soy, no whip), a woman stopped me to ask who made the bag and where she could buy her own. At $550+, depending on where you purchase, this bag packs quite a pricey punch. But with a handbag this gorgeous, it’ll be the only one you care to carry.

Now through Monday, November 30th, Rebecca Minkoff is hosting a Black Friday sale; she’s slashing prices on her collection. The Stud Devote (in Almond, Papaya, Plum and Steel) is $400 – down from $695. Hit up the sale now…quantities are limited.

Also, this entire weekend, Rebecca Minkoff is raffling off three bags a day! So don’t miss out on some seriously chic arm candy.

Carol’s Daughter Best Tressed Hair Set: Holiday Beauty Gift Guide

Posted on by daneen in Conditioner, Hair, Hair Styling, Holy Grail, Shampoo | Leave a comment

carols+daughter+best+tressed+gift+set Carols Daughter Best Tressed Hair Set: Holiday Beauty Gift GuideThis holiday beauty gift pick is for that follicularly challenged chick in your life. We all have that relative or friend whose hair is so dry, damaged or downright ratnesty that we’re compelled to help. So this holiday season, instead of hooking her up with a cute hat, buy her the Best Tressed Hair Set from Carol’s Daughter.

Like the right pair of shoes, a hairdo can make or break your outfit. Starting off with gently-cleansing Rosemary Mint Shampoo with Sea Moss for dry hair is a wise choice. Layer in moisture with Black Vanilla Leave-in Conditioner. Hair Milk, a light solution for brittle hair, adds luster with the help of lemongrass and ylang-ylang. The essential oils of sage and rosemary in Lisa’s Hair Elixir help combat dry hair and scalp while peppermint gives a refreshing tingle. Mimosa Hair Honey, an herbal-infused pomade, improves manageability and tames fly-aways so that the only thing catching anyone’s eye is your gorgeous hair!

I just tried Carol’s Daughter hair products tonight, for the first time. And let me tell you…they are just as awesome as everything you’ve heard. I’m extremely embarrassed to be so tardy for the Carol’s Daughter hair party; so I’m not just jumping on the bandwagon – I’m getting behind the wheel, y’all. After using the products in the Best Tressed Hair Set, my mane (which is usually the black hole of moisture and shine) is soft, shiny, wonderfully fragranced and feels so darn healthy that I’m in a state of shock.

What’s even more amazing is the fact that these products are all natural – free of the harsh chemicals that jacked up your hair in the first place. “I wanted lots of moisture and no synthetic preservatives,” says creator Lisa Price. “If I couldn’t pronounce the ingredient, it wasn’t going into the pot.”

The Best Tressed Hair Set is the gift that keeps giving. Your homegirl, and her haphazard hair, will thank you.
