For a long time, Mother’s Day was just another Hallmark holiday to me. Time to buy the obligatory bouquet and card, right? That is until I had my son, Westley. Only then did I understand what a difficult (and rewarding) job motherhood truly is. Now that I’m a proud (and exhausted) mom of two, Mother’s Day holds even more meaning for me.
So do me a favor…this Mother’s Day, I want you to spoil the mothers in your life. It’s okay if your wallet is a little light. We moms appreciate a home-cooked meal, a thoughtful email/text message and – yes – the obligatory bouquet or card. But in case you’re feeling generous this year, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite Mother’s Day gift suggestions.
As many of you know, I’m a working mom of two little ones…and I miss them terribly when we’re apart. So for Mother’s Day, I would love to receive a “mom necklace” with their names – so that they can always be close to my heart.
I’ve been browsing GracePersonalized, an Etsy shop with beautiful custom jewelry. Every piece they make is so lovely, it’s hard to choose just one!
I love gift giving. Even more than I enjoy gift receiving. It’s a fun game for me. I get a thrill out of finding the perfect present. My secret/trick is pretty simple – whenever possible, I purchase personalized gifts. People love seeing their name on things. I know I do. A thoughtful touch can turn a generic item into something the recipient will treasure for years.
Here are some of my favorite personalized gift picks for 2014:
Brevity’s Signature Necklace ($195) is the ultimate thoughtful gift. This takes nameplate necklaces to the next level – because it’s not a font or a script. It’s a signature. And creating the necklace is as simple as uploading an image file. The necklace could be in the recipient’s handwriting, your own or someone else’s. And it doesn’t have to be a name. It could be a word, place or phrase that has special meaning. The possibilities are endless. Okay, I take back what I said at the beginning of this post. I would love to give this as a gift, but what I really, really, really want is to receive one of my own on Christmas morning.
This time of year, there are always people who you want to thank without breaking the bank. It’s tough because most gifts that cost around $10 are absolute crap. Not the Anthropologie Limited Edition Golden Monogram Mug ($10), though. It’s well made, looks like you spent a lot more, and is a gift that your recipient will actually use…a lot. It’s perfect for your kids’ teachers, a co-worker, the person who delivers your mail…the list goes on and on.
The Icing Gold Monogram Initial Key Ring ($7.50) is another great stocking stuffer that looks more expensive than it is. Icing is that kind of cheap-y store in the mall where 12-year-olds shop…so I didn’t have high hopes when I purchased a few of these online as gifts. I figured if the quality was poor, I’d simply return them. But when they arrived on my porch a few days later, I was very impressed with the quality…and I know the people receiving them will be too. Shopbop.com is one of my favorite online destinations for retail therapy. They have the best selection of apparel, shoes, handbags, jewelry and other accessories. Just about any time I wear something I bought at Shopbop, people stop and ask where I got it.
What’s even better than shopping Shopbop is shopping Shopbop when there’s a big sale…and there’s one happening right now. Now’s the time to stock up on your favorites and/or finally buy that splurge item you’ve been eyeing for forever.
Today through Thursday, October 16 (at 11:59pm PT), take 25% off your entire purchase. Use coupon code FAMILY25 at checkout.
If you score something cute, come back here and brag about your bargains in the comments section. I’m dying to hear what everyone picks up!
One of my all-time favorite things is opening my front door to find a package waiting for me on my doorstep. Most of the time, I know what the contents are (aka the end result of a late-night online shopping spree), but the best boxes are the ones with a surprise inside. Who’s with me here?
So when POPSUGAR asked if I’d like to receive their Must Have Box and write about it on Spoiled Pretty, I couldn’t respond fast enough.
