DiorShow Extase Mascara Is Here To Pump You Up!

diorshow+extase+mascara DiorShow Extase Mascara Is Here To Pump You Up!

Without cosmetic help, my lashes are pretty much nonexistent. They are so stumpy and sparse, I don’t know why they even bother showing up. So when I’m in the market for a new mascara, I’m not satisfied with one that merely lengthens or volumizes. I only add a mascara to the collection if it delivers both…and if, in the immortal words of L.L. Cool J, it’s “doin it and doin it and doin it well.”

DiorShow Extase Mascara Is Here To Pump You Up!Recently, the beautiful folks at Dior sent me their newest mascara – DiorShow Extase – to try on for size. And let me tell you…not only is this getting added to the Spoiled Pretty collection, it’s going in heavy rotation. This mascara performs so well, it’s enough to make ole L.L. lick his lips. Allow me to describe what the latest DiorShow is working with…

First, Extase gave me lash volume where none existed. Dior chalks it up to “spherical-shaped Black Pearl Pigments create a 3D volume effect and the exclusive Metamorphosis Powders expand in size by up to 50% after application.” Now, I don’t know nuthin’ about no special pigments and powders…but I will say that the ingredients in their magical mascara formula fatten the lashes quite nicely. In fact, Extase pumps up the volume so well, it made me think of the old SNL skit Hans and Franz. If those two quit bodybuilding and got into the cosmetics game, this might be the mascara they’d concoct.

dioshow+extase DiorShow Extase Mascara Is Here To Pump You Up!Though Dior doesn’t really advertise this, Extase does a fantabulous job of lengthening and curling lashes. I was actually more impressed with this than its volumizing abilities. It took even my tiniest baby lashes and transformed them into long and lithe versions of their former selves. As I type this, the lashes on my right eye (I left my left eye bare, to act as a control) are brushing against the lenses of my glasses.

Even after it dries, the formula is extra dark and glossy. My eyelashes are naturally black, and I noted how inky and lush Extase made my lashes look. So I can imagine that you gals with light lashes are really going to love it. It also wears very well; it doesn’t flake or smudge. And the few times I absentmindedly rubbed at my eyes, it didn’t do anywhere.

Finally, Dior promises that Extase’s SR38 Patented Ceramid helps to reconstruct damaged lashes and promotes stronger and fuller lashes. I’ve only been using it a few days, so I can’t say if there’s any truth to that claim. But even if it doesn’t rebuild and strengthen your fringe, its aforementioned perks are well worth the price of admission ($28).

Right now, DiorShow Extase Mascara is a Sephora exclusive, and only available to Beauty Insiders. The rewards program is free, so why not sign up?

FDA Lashes Out at Latisse

brooke+shields+latisse FDA Lashes Out at Latisse

The Food and Drug Administration recently issued a warning to Allergan Inc., stating that the website for Latisse (a prescription eyelash lengthener) is misleading because it omits and minimizes risks associated with the product.

In a letter dated September 10, the FDA warns that latisse.com misbrands Latisse – in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act – because it does not clearly convey the consequences that may result from use of the drug, which include:

Iris pigmentation
Lid pigmentation
Hair growth outside the treatment area
Intraocular inflammation
Potential for contamination and infections
Absorption by soft contact lenses

Lancome Hypnose Mascara: Boom Batter, My Lashes Are Getting Fatter

lancome+hypnose+drama Lancome Hypnose Mascara: Boom Batter, My Lashes Are Getting FatterThis past weekend, Mr. Spoiled Pretty and I attended our friends’ wedding. Though my Audrey Hepburn-inspired cocktail dress was darling and my coiff was looking uncharacteristically on point, it was my Bambi lashes that elicited the most compliments from my better half.

“Your eyelashes look amazing,” he said, at least three times during the night. At first, I was a little skeptical. I mean, when was the last time you got a compliment on your lashes from a guy who didn’t idolize Cher and sweat glitter (to steal a phrase from my gal, Amber)?

At first, I thought Graham’s flattery might have been the result of the Glenlivet he was sipping at the reception. But when I stopped in the ladies loo and spied myself in the mirror, I realized that the compliments were well-deserved.

What was my secret? I’ll tell you. Swipe on Lancome’s Oscillation Powerbooster lash primer, from root to tip. And while it’s still wet, paint on a coat of Lancome Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara. Hypnose Drama’s s-shaped brush paints on inky goodness, resulting in fanned out, eye-popping, full body fringe. The formula is on the thin side, which means that it won’t dry out, or worse – leave your lashes a clumped up mess. I adore how the applicator grasps even my stumpiest, non-existent baby lashes and transforms them into their best selves.

Hypnose Drama is, by far, the best mascara on the market right now and it is absolutely worth every penny of its $24.50 price tag. But if you want to up the proverbial ante and elicit stares and compliments galore, you’ll dig deeper into your wallet and buck up for the primer too.

Lancome Powerbooster and Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara are available at Sephora.

Latisse Might Turn Your Blue Eyes Brown

brooke+shields+latisse Latisse Might Turn Your Blue Eyes Brown

If you watch Bravo as much as I do (shout out to Real Housewives of New Jersey and Top Chef), you’ve likely seen an advertisement for Latisse, a “prescription treatment for hypotrichosis used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker.”

brooke+shields+latisse+lashes Latisse Might Turn Your Blue Eyes Brown

The commercial had me at hello, with images of spokesperson Brooke Shields flittering around a party, showing off enviably long lashes. But Latisse lost me with its laundry list of side effects, which includes: an itching sensation in the eyes, eye redness, eye irritation, dryness of the eyes, redness of the eyelids, eyelid darkening, and increased brown iris pigmentation (which is likely permanent).

Say what?

Speaking of permanent, the results achieved with Latisse are not. If you stop using the product, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.

With so many amazing mascaras and false lashes on the market, I just don’t understand paying $120 for a one-month supply and taking the risks associated with Latisse. I’m a beauty buff, but this is one product I will not be trying.
