Get Catty With Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses

I've been searching for some cat eye sunnies for forever. On a whim, I bought these Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses from Shopbop - hoping that they wouldn't look too cartoonish. Even though I was afraid they'd be too large, I'm digging the oversized frames. They make a statement without overwhelming my face. And the cat eye shape is subtle, so it's not CONTINUE READING

Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING

Spoiled Pretty Exclusive: How To Replicate Robert Pattinson’s Bloodthirsty, Berry Lips in Twilight – Straight From Movie’s Head Makeup Artist!

twilight+edward+wallpaper Spoiled Pretty Exclusive: How To Replicate Robert Pattinsons Bloodthirsty, Berry Lips in Twilight – Straight From Movies Head Makeup Artist!
The day after Thanksgiving, Amber and I met for lunch at The Cheesecake Factory then meandered around the Willow Grove Mall – killing time before a 4:30pm showing of Twilight. To say that we’re a wee bit obsessed with Twilight is a wee bit of an understatement. That afternoon, I was seeing the movie for the second time…and Amber had officially “blown her entire allowance” seeing Twilight FOUR times in one week.

benefit+ms+behavin Spoiled Pretty Exclusive: How To Replicate Robert Pattinsons Bloodthirsty, Berry Lips in Twilight – Straight From Movies Head Makeup Artist! Before leaving the mall and heading to the movie theater, we made a pit stop in Sephora – as beauty bloggers are wont to do when they congregate. We had heard that Twilight’s makeup artist used Benefit’s Silky Finish Lipstick in Ms. Behavin (mulberry glaze) on Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen in the film – and also on Edward’s film family. So Amber swiped some on, in an attempt to replicate Edward’s vampy lip. She got a kick out of wearing it to the movie, knowing that Robert Pattinson’s lips would be dressed in the same shade.

Ms. Behavin looked gorge on Amber, but something was different between her lips and those of the Twilight vampires. Amber’s lips were much glossier. So for a week, the question weighed on me as I tried to figure out how the movie’s makeup department managed to make the glossy lipstick look like a matte stain.

This weekend, I got my answer – straight from Jeanne Van Phue, Twilight‘s head makeup artist!!!

L’Oreal Bare Naturale Gentle Lip Conditioner Tastes Like You Bought It At GNC

l%27oreal+bare+naturale+lip+conditioner LOreal Bare Naturale Gentle Lip Conditioner Tastes Like You Bought It At GNC
I’m a big fan of L’Oreal (it doesn’t get much better than HIP JellyBalm or Skin Genesis Daily Moisturizer Oil-Free Lotion), but I’ve got something to say about their Bare Naturale Gentle Lip Conditioner and it isn’t pretty.

metamucil LOreal Bare Naturale Gentle Lip Conditioner Tastes Like You Bought It At GNCThe preservative-free, fragrance-free lip soother is 96% natural and does a decent job of conditioning lips while adding a sheer tint to your pucker. But must it taste and smell like old-school Metamucil? For real, it tastes like some supplement that you’d buy at GNC.

Surely there’s a way to add some fruit juices or bubblegum essence to this product without rendering it carcinogenic. Don’t ask me how, I’m no scientist…just putting it out there. And it’s $10! I don’t know about you, but if I’m shelling out that much for .11 ounces of lip balm, I want some flava.

Rudolph The Red Hued Lip Balm

rudolph+lip+balms Rudolph The Red Hued Lip Balm

I have an aversion to Christmas ads, songs, decorations and other paraphenalia unleashed too early. It’s like the day after Halloween, my local Macy’s is dressed up like Santa’s workshop. And while driving in my car, I spastically click the radio dial to find a station NOT playing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

But when the retailers push beauty products inspired by one of my favorite Christmas specials*, my Grinch-like behavior takes a time out. This Rudolph Set of Lip Balms includes Rudolph’s Rockin’ Raspberry, Bumble’s Blueberry Blast, Hermey’s Peppermint Twist and Clarice’s Berry Bubblegum.

* Daneen’s favorite Christmas cartoon specials:

1) Chipmunk Christmas
2) Ziggy’s Gift
3) Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
4) The Smurfs Christmas Special
5) Twas The Night Before Christmas
6) Christmas Comes To Pacland

fw New York Fashion Week: Beauty and Bags and Boots, Oh My!
I have so many untold NY Fashion Week stories, you don’t even know. I’ve been meaning to get back to my FW reporting, but I have been up to my eyeballs at work, and busy co-chairing the Total Beauty – Total Cure Breast Cancer Awareness campaign with the hilariously snarkalicious Amber.

So hop into my DeLorean, switch on the Flux Capacitor, and let’s rev this baby up to 88 mph. We’re going back in time…

During New York Fashion Week, L’Oreal held an exclusive blogger event, and I was one of the lucky few on the invite list. At an expansive and gorgeous townhouse – complete with a tdf courtyard – I sipped mimosas, noshed on blueberry pancakes and chatted up some of my cosmetics-craving colleagues. As a parting gift, L’Oreal presented us all with Fashion Week survival kits, packed with a festival of goodies. It was then that I was formally introduced to my new fave lippie, HIP Jelly Balm.

New York Fashion Week: Beauty and Bags and Boots, Oh My!
Here’s me and Amber. Fix your eyes on the chicness that is my Krina handbag. The Calista Tote (in Azure) is both functional and feminine, made of rich Italian leather and accented with gold-plated hardware and flirty tassels. The Calista is oft seen on the fabulous fashionplate, Katherine Heigl!

Later that day, Amber and I popped by the Boots booth at the Bryant Park tents, and were introduced to one of my Fashion Week beauty discoveries. No7 High Lights Illuminating Lotion
is a pearly lotion that contains light reflecting particles to illuminate your skin exactly where you want it, while diffusing imperfections such as fine lines and wrinkles. Highlight your cheekbones or brow bone to look truly radiant…or mix with foundation for an all-over glow.

New York Fashion Week: Beauty and Bags and Boots, Oh My!
Check us out, getting our glow on. You too can look this dreamily dewy…and for less than $13!

PS – Like my earrings? Get your own from Forever 21 for less than $4!!!

Recessionista’s Fabuless Pick of the Week: L’Oreal Paris HIP Jelly Balm

Posted on by daneen in Fabuless Pick of the Week, Lip Balm, Lipgloss | 5 Comments

jellybalm Recessionistas Fabuless Pick of the Week: LOreal Paris HIP Jelly BalmI am absolutely obsessed with L’Oreal Paris HIP Jelly Balm right now. They’re the poor (wo)man’s MAC Tendertones…except they’re better, IMO.

The creamy balm lends a juicy pop of color to lips without the stickiness of your average gloss. The six shades have a magic quality that flatter all skin tones (I am partial to Plush). They’re so moutwatering and moisturizing that they render your chapstick obsolete. And when you’re having a bad day, HIP Jelly Balm is the perfect pick-me-up beauty buy.

They smell like cotton candy, taste like caramel, and cost less than $10. Does it get any better?

Buy the entire set without breaking the bank.

Available at mass market retail stores and at drugstore.com.
