Recessionista’s Fabuless Pick of the Week: L’Oreal Paris HIP Jelly Balm

jellybalm Recessionistas Fabuless Pick of the Week: LOreal Paris HIP Jelly BalmI am absolutely obsessed with L’Oreal Paris HIP Jelly Balm right now. They’re the poor (wo)man’s MAC Tendertones…except they’re better, IMO.

The creamy balm lends a juicy pop of color to lips without the stickiness of your average gloss. The six shades have a magic quality that flatter all skin tones (I am partial to Plush). They’re so moutwatering and moisturizing that they render your chapstick obsolete. And when you’re having a bad day, HIP Jelly Balm is the perfect pick-me-up beauty buy.

They smell like cotton candy, taste like caramel, and cost less than $10. Does it get any better?

Buy the entire set without breaking the bank.

Available at mass market retail stores and at drugstore.com.

MAC Ungaro

UNGARO COL MAC UngaroLive from backstage at the Fall 2008 Collections, It-Boy designer, Esteban Cortazar, and MAC have come together to create a special colour collection as dreamy, refined, and, well, Parisienne as anything this side of the Avenue Georges V, exclusively ours! A limited edition for lips, cheeks, eyes…chez Ungaro, only for MAC.

“Our association with Ungaro is really exciting as we’ve supported Esteban for many years. He’s reflective of an attitude and movement for venerable fashion houses to reinvent their brands by employing new emerging talent, something that’s a core value of MAC,” explains Creative Director, James Gager.

The collaboration also represents the many personalities and aesthetics to which MAC makeup appeals. “MAC’s a high/low fashion brand,” continues Gager. “We follow equally couture and street culture, a sense of yin and yang is inherent to the brand and our customers – heavy-duty dramatic makeup alongside that which is girly, fresh and light. Following from our dramatic and outrageous collaboration with McQueen last year, we felt that Ungaro represented another side of MAC’s personality.”

Very Sexy Indeed

Very Sexy IndeedIf my lips joined eHarmony and were matched on 29 dimensions of compatibility, my pout would undoubtedly be paired with the Very Sexy Makeup Limited Edition Lip Gloss Duo in Flash. If I never wore another gloss for the remainder of my natural life, I wouldn’t bat an Exceptionnel de Chanel-coated eyelash.

This double-ended lip gloss holds two formulas. The crème transforms my lips into their sexier selves. It’s a perfect nude that makes all of my other pale glosses seem pathetic.

One swipe of the rose gold shimmer on the center of my bottom lip has me convinced that I’m the brown Angelina. And the sugary caramel scent is so delicioso that I sniff the applicator each and every time I apply.

I’m seriously considering stocking up…build a bomb shelter and fill it with tubes of the Lip Gloss Duo in Flash.

Very Sexy IndeedIts limited-edition status is giving me high blood pressure, heart palpitations and stomach ulcers. Go get some…and see if it doesn’t turn you into a total mess, envisioning a life lived with out it.

Carrie Underwood Is Just Like Us: She’s a Makeup Junkie!

Carrie Underwood is Allure‘s cover girl for their September 2008 issue.

Makeup artist Brigitte Reiss-Andersen was inspired by glamorous Bond girl Ursula Andress. “The idea with Carrie’s makeup was to showcase her eyes and give them that ‘pop,'” says Reiss-Andersen.

First, she sponged on a light wash of foundation and dabbed the apples of Underwood’s cheeks with a peach cream blush. Then she rimmed Underwood’s eyes in charcoal liner and blended cranberry and nude eye shadow from the lash line to the crease. She added “tons of fake lashes” as well as mascara. Finally, Reiss-Andersen applied a sheer and pearly lip gloss so it “didn’t compete with her eyes.”

To re-create the look, try:

* Chanel Powder Blush in Horizon
* Chanel Aqualumiere Gloss in Bonbon

Reiss-Andersen offered to tone down Underwood’s makeup before she headed out the door, but the singer loved it so much that she kept it. She signed a few autographs for the crew before heading off to shop for cosmetics at a local mall with her mom and sister – fake eyelashes and all!
