My hair grows like a weed. Unfortunately, the hair of which I speak is not on my head. My legs and underarms give my razor a workout. If I shave in the morning, by afternoon, I've got stubble. And forget about skipping days...unless I want to look like Sasquatch. Getting rid of the hair is not only expensive (I CONTINUE READING
The shower and my chemically-straightened hair are frenemies. Every seventh day when I wash my hair, they get along great in a shampoo Shangri-la. But the rest of the week, I employ a shower cap to keep the steam from undoing the silky straightness. I have been wearing shower caps since I was a child, and I’ve tried them CONTINUE READING

I've been searching for some cat eye sunnies for forever. On a whim, I bought these Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses from Shopbop - hoping that they wouldn't look too cartoonish.
Even though I was afraid they'd be too large, I'm digging the oversized frames. They make a statement without overwhelming my face. And the cat eye shape is subtle, so it's not CONTINUE READING
Now that I have two kids - and the youngest being 6 weeks old - I needed to get better acquainted with quick-dry nail polish options. I hardly have time to do anything, let alone a DIY - so I needed to find some lacquers that fit my new lifestyle.
Yesterday, while going my grocery shopping, I picked up Revlon CONTINUE READING
I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING
A few weeks ago, I blogged about mood-changing lip glosses and recommended purchasing Too Faced Mood Swing over Smashbox O-Gloss; my reasoning was that they were essentially the same product and Mood Swing costs less. Well, I take it back. I take it all back.
Yesterday, I received a tube of O-Gloss in the mail (courtesy of Allure Experts) – and I am deeply in love with this gloss. The moment the clear gel hit my lips, it morphed into the most flattering shade of pink…I was very impressed. Rich in antioxidants and botanicals, this non-tacky gloss moisturizes with avocado oil.
O-Gloss has already become a staple in my makeup bag.
One of the perks of having a beauty blog is that I get free products to test and review. So while my trips to the makeup counters, drugstores, and beauty boutiques are less frequent than in the past – once in a while, a product makes such an impression on me that I’ll gladly reach into my wallet. Urban Decay Lip Envy is one such product (I heart the ‘Envious’ shade).
This stain provides a long-lasting wash of color that dries to a semi-matte finish. Swipe it on lips for a “I just ate a popsicle – aren’t I cute?” look. Or layer it for a deep, inky stain.
Lip Envy comes in inkwell-esque packaging, and has a delicate vanilla scent.
Spoiled Pretty tip: after applying Lip Envy (in Envious) to lips, add lip balm, for a natural look; or layer clear gloss on top, for a sexy lacquered effect. Either way, you’ll make every girl in the room pink with envy!
Typical lip plumpers are a little one note – don’t ya think? A bee stung mouth covered in gooey gloss screams, “These aren’t my real lips!” Luckily, DuWop has the answered your plump pout prayers.
Prime Venom is a matte finish plumping lip balm infused with the Lip Venom formula that also works as a lip primer. This matte balm leaves conditions lips while acting as a primer to help lipsticks go on smoother and last longer – as well as plumping the lips for a matte finish pout. It also flushes the lips with natural color, so that you don’t have to wear lipstick at all if you choose not to.
Prime Venom contains macadamia nut oil, prized for its long lasting, moisturizing properties and the now famous blend of essential oils including cinnamon, ginger, and wintergreen that put plumpers on the map.
Earlier today, the paparazzi snapped this photo of Jessica Biel – and her new flaxen do – at London’s Heathrow airport. In just the last hour or so, this pic has been popping up all over the Internet – and everyone’s weighing in on whether her haircolor is a hit or miss. But what baffles me is that no one has commented on her swollen upper lip – that sucker is huge!
No matter what I do, my lips become dry and chapped during the winter months. However, I have found a product that alleviates both problems. Although the company is not new to beauty junkies, Philosophy is better known for products such as Hope in a Jar. Kiss Me is a very emollient lip balm that delivers on its promise to leave your lips well-moisturized.
Lipsticks and lip glosses look best on lips that are smooth and well hydrated without cracked or peeling skin. If you want to fully appreciate the ultimate lip care experience you should use an exfoliant first and follow up with a super moisturizing product to protect and heal your lips because lips can not maintain moisture. A good lip exfoliant to try is Laura Geller Lip Strip.
I put Kiss Me to the test during the busy Christmas season while cashiering, for 9 hour shifts, at Sephora. On average, I applied the lip balm approximately three times during these long hours of talking, eating and drinking but not more than 4 times in a 24-hour period.
The one caveat of this product, but its performance is not affected, is that it reacts to hot and cold temperatures. The tube will harden if left in the cold and will soften during the warmer months.
Philosophy’s Kiss Me offered the best of all worlds because it had a natural shine, moisturized, tasted like citrus, and was long-lasting. I purchased the lip balm by Philosophy in Kiss Me Red, but it is available in clear and pink shades as well. I love this stuff!
*Kim Y. Stanley has been a self-confessed beauty junkie since the age of 12. Over the years, she has experimented and tested tons of beauty products; comparing similar products of different price ranges is what fuels her addiction.
I’m a brown girl. So when I tried PlumpLips IceSticks from Freeze 24/7 in FirstFrost (iridescent bubble gum pink), I expected disaster. I don’t usually gravitate towards pale lip colors because they wash me out. And I’ve been burned, quite literally, by irritating lip plumpers in the past.
So when I looked in the mirror, after applying FirstFrost to my lips, I was shocked…in the best way possible. The product soothed, subtly plumped, and gave my pout a sheer wash of color – without any stinging or pain, just a cool tingle. The formula is soft and moisturizing, so tackiness isn’t an issue. The most exciting feature of the PlumpLips IceSticks is its ability to enhance the natural color of your lips – by increasing circulation to the lip surface.
Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Katie Holmes, and Renee Zellweger are reported fans.
I’m glad that I kept an open mind, because I love this lip product. I would absolutely purchase again…and I am anxious to try the other seven shades (Brr..Berry, WindChill, ArcticGlaze, FrostBitten, PlumCicle, CherryIce, and Clear).
