Get Gorgeously Goth Lips

If you’ve picked up any of the new September 2008 fashion magazines, you’ve certainly noticed that black lipstick is going to be a big beauty trends for fall is. The look may be gorgeously goth on the runway. In real life? Not so much.

But if you dare to try this tricky trend, might I make a suggestion? Black lipgloss. Wait…hear me out. A low-pigment black gloss is easy to wear alone and can be blended with other shades for a little drama.

So where are you supposed to find black lipgloss? Lancôme will be debuting such a product in November–Color Fever Gloss in Piha Black. It is part of a luxe lip set created by Aaron de Mey, Lancôme’s new artistic director.

Priced at $48, the kit features the gloss and Color Fever Lipstick in Piha Red, inspired by the red of a Christian Louboutin sole.

Aaron is a big adherent of having fun with makeup, so the idea is to wear the colors alone or to customize your own shade by mixing them together. Aaron also likes to use Piha Black as an eye gloss.

Prediction: MAC’s Cult of Cherry Will Spawn Cult Following This Fall

I don’t know where you live, but it was straight-up fall in Philly today. And while I’m an autumn baby (holla at my Libras), I’m sad to see summer slip away. But whether we like it or not, the change of seasons is imminent and inevitable. So to properly prepare you for the coming months, this week, Spoiled Pretty will be bringing you the skinny on the hottest fall makeup collections.

First up is MAC’s Cult of Cherry.

The GLAMORAMA beauty trend took center stage during the Fall/Winter 2008 Fashion Shows. Glam goes rock with punk-tuated eyes and heady lips. Hedonistic, transformative makeup stole the spotlight. Seen on the runways of such shows at Giles, The Blonds, Vivienne Westwood and Zac Posen (left), MAC Cult of Cherry is the perfect way to get the look. Turn up the volume on your makeup or tone it down for everyday wear, the collection can be worn in a multitude of ways to suit your needs.

Thanks to my friends at MAC, I got sneak peek at the collection. And if the samples I received are any indication, we’re all in for a delicious treat.

Dark Edge: Dirty chocolate brown (satin)

Jampacked: Sheer grape with multi-dimensional pearl (frost)

Though many of these colors are bit dark and saturated to rock right away, I couldn’t resist getting a jump start on my fall makeup wardrobe. Creme Cerise is my new go-to nude. After sundown, I break out Jampacked. Plum de Bois Powder Blush (not pictured) didn’t wow me in the pot, but is absolutely stunning on the skin. And Kirsch has been claimed by Mama Spoiled Pretty (aka Sticky Fingers).

Cult of Cherry will be available in stores and at maccosmetics.com from August 21 through October 2008. But you know how quickly these limited-edition MAC collections fly off the shelves. So I don’t need to tell you to mark your calendars.

Stila Teams Up With Rock The Vote To Encourage Women To Hit The Polls

To inspire women to exercise their right to vote, Stila is teaming up with Rock The Vote for a limited-edition lipstick that will bring a new breed of “lip service” to the 2008 Presidential Election.

Equally flattering on pouts of all political persuasions, Stila’s Rock The Vote Red Lip Color will go on sale beginning July 17th at stilacosmetics.com and 25% of the proceeds of the first 500 tubes sold will be donated to Rock The Vote in support of their efforts to mobilize young people to get involved in the political process.

If you caught yesterday’s installment of 80s Ladies Week, you know that I’m pretty handy with the pom-poms. So it should come as no surprise that one of my childhood idols was singer/choreographer/fellow Philadelphian, Toni Basil.

For today’s 80s-inspired product review, I’m going to steal a line from Toni’s pop music classic…

On the 4th of July, I was invited to a late-evening barbecue not too far from my own apartment. I had to hoof it because there was no chance of finding parking anywhere in the vicinity of the art museum, which serves as backdrop for the city’s Independence Day festivities. The weather was pretty typical for July – hot and humid – with a light drizzle.
