Beautiful Things My Mother Taught Me

Mom and me, circa 1979 Disclosure: This post is sponsored by CoverGirl. Mother’s Day is this Sunday and I’m so excited. Not just because Mr. Spoiled Pretty and my son, Westley, are treating me to a decadent brunch. But because it’s an opportunity to celebrate my hero, Andrea Stamps. I must admit that until two years ago, Mother’s Day was just another CONTINUE READING

Bath & Body Works 3-Wick Candles: 2 for $22

At Christmastime, I agonized over what to get my son's daycare teachers. There are 12 of them - and even though he has his two main teachers, they all have interaction with him and take excellent care of him. So I needed to buy 12 gifts to show my appreciation, without breaking the bank. $10 each seemed doable, except CONTINUE READING

IMAN Skin Tone Evener BB Creme SPF 15

As a beauty expert, I’m embarrassed by how late I am to the BB Cream party. In the past year, so many friends and colleagues have asked me about BB Creams—what’s the buzz, which brands are the best, etc. —and they would look at me funny when I admitted to not having tried BB Creams yet. I mean, they CONTINUE READING

CoverGirl Outlast Brilliant Shine Nail Gloss in Vio-last

I’m very fickle about my fingernails. Before I paint my nails or get them professionally did, I spend a inordinate amount of time pondering my polish options. I consider the season, recent trends, my wardrobe that week and anywhere special I might go. But despite all of this planning, I’m usually over my polish choice before it even dries. My New Arm Candy: Rebecca Minkoff Swing Bag

After beauty products, handbags are my secondary addiction. But when it comes to arm candy, I have discriminating taste. For me, the perfect handbag seamlessly marries fashion with function, is handcrafted from high-quality materials, has really unique hardware and is classic but edgy - all at the same time. I don't like to carry the of-the-moment "it" bag. I CONTINUE READING

Sally+Hansen+Nail+Art+Pens Coming Soon: Sally Hansen Nail Art Pens!
They’re not yet on the brand website, but Sally Hansen Nail Art Pens have been popping up in random Walgreens stores and generating quite a buzz. Available in 8 colors (white, black, light pink, hot pink, blue, red, silver and gold), these markers are $7.99 each and make nail art a breeze, thanks to the water-based formula.

nail+art+pens+ +sally+hansen Coming Soon: Sally Hansen Nail Art Pens!
Embrace your inner polish Picasso and doodle all over your manicure. Mistakes can be easily corrected with a moist Q-tip and some patience. But because the formula is water-based, you must seal your manicure masterpiece with a top coat – or all of your hard work will have been for naught.

So keep your eyes peeled next time you’re at the drugstore or supermarket. And if you live/work near a Walgreens, by all means start your sleuthing there. I’m hoping to get my hands on these stylos, so expect a formal review soon!

Nail Polish You And Your Man Can Enjoy

Nail Polish You And Your Man Can Enjoy
For years, I have been blaming Mr. Spoiled Pretty for my raggedy looking nails. I’m too scatterbrained and busy to schedule regular manicures. And whenever I pull out the polish stockpile, Graham makes this face that translates to, “If you care about my brain cells, you’ll put away the polish.”

Most times Graham makes this face, I begrudgingly return the polishes to their hideaway beneath the bathroom sink…not because I’m really concerned about his brain cells (he’s really smart, so he has some to spare). Really, it’s so that I don’t have to hear him yammer on about the caustic smell of the fumes – and how women do such ridiculous things in the name of beauty.

Well, I’m tickled (perfect) pink to report that Sula Beauty has answered my nail polish prayers.

Sula’s collection of non-toxic Nail Colours don’t smell like traditional polishes. In fact, they don’t really smell like anything at all – unless you place the bottle under your nose and take a whiff. And even then, the scent is barely noticeable. Another treat – the polishes are specially designed to be worn with whimsy. The water-based formula can be peeled off in one clean sweep – no harsh polish remover required; which means no funny faces or lip from Mr. Spoiled Pretty when it comes time to take it off. For longer wear, simply apply a protective clear top and base coat.

Nail Polish You And Your Man Can EnjoySula Nail Colour is available in Perfect Pink, Crimson Red, Champagne Coral and Modern Mauve.

I’m crossing my manicured fingers that Sula adds more colors to the collection.

90210 No…OPI’s New Collection Is Inspired By The New Series?

90210+by+OPI 90210 No...OPIs New Collection Is Inspired By The New Series?

As I reported back in July, OPI debuted a limited-edition nail polish collection inspired by Beverly Hills spoiled brats…just not the ones I/we were expecting.

90210 by OPI is comprised of these three shades:

Queen of West Web-erly: purple shimmer

Sweet as Annie-thing! – orange red
Pretty & Privileged – ruby red

Um, OPI – where in the ham sandwich are my Brenda, Kelly and Donna-inspired colors? I realize that this is just a marketing vehicle for the new series, but how badass would it have been to see the above shades to go head-to-head with polishes inspired by the true queens of West Beverly High? How about an inky color to match Dylan’s Porsche 356 Speedster? And how simple would it have been to whip up a silvery shade inspired by David? Ugh…this collection had so much promise.

Anybody actually watch this new 90210? Me neither.
