These days, most of the time I have my hands full with Westley – who recently turned 6-months old! Anyway, last week, I had a rare opportunity to get a manicure. I got out of work early and my fabulous co-worker, Alyssa, and I got our nails did.
I decided on OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous (from the Swiss Collection). It’s a stunning pewter shade that almost takes on a blueish cast in the light.
Alyssa also opted for OPI. I can’t recall the name, though…but isn’t it glitterrific?
I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about my nails. Peep my polish…I layered OPI‘s new Black Shatter over top of MAC Nail Lacquer in Soiree (from their Cham Pale collection) to create a rose gold leopard-esque print!
Black Shatter creates a crackled finish when applied over any dried nail polish (it doesn’t work on bare nails – I tried). It accompanies the Katy Perry Collection by OPI - which is gorgeous in its own right.
Last Friday Night
The One That Got Away
When I saw an ad for this collection in one of my fashion magazines, I instantly fell for the glittery shades: Teenage Dream and Last Friday Night. But after OPI sent me some samples to review, the others won me over in a big way. At first glance, Not Like The Movies may look like your standard silver, but it’s actually a light purple and green duochrome that is perfect for those who love to rock an edgier nail. And The One That Got Away is the most beautiful berry shimmer I’ve seen in a long while.
I’ve been meaning to do some more swatches and post the pictures – which I still intend to do. So check back soon…
The Katy Perry Collection by OPI launches this month at Professional Salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $8.50 ($10.95 CAN) each.
Even though I already own one of each, I plan on buying (and hoarding) at least two more bottles of the Black Shatter…and I suggest you do the same.
When the weather gets chillier, I usually prefer a dark, edgy nail. But today, while perusing Sephora on my lunch break, I succumbed to the bright lilac charms of NARS Poker Face Nail Polish.
I painted the pretty purple on my thumb, but – for some unexplainable reason – left Sephora empty handed. As the hours passed, the color grew on me more and more…and now, as I type this, I have a sad face over leaving Poker Face at the store.
Guess I’m gonna have to make a return trip tomorrow to turn my frown upside down.

Two weekends ago, Mr. Spoiled Pretty sweetly offered to watch Westley for the day so that I could rejoin the living and get my shop on. So I drove to the King of Prussia Mall and proceeded to give my Visa a workout.
While perusing the MAC counter at Nordstrom, a new nail polish caught my eye. Earthly Harmony, one of six new shades created by renowned nail guru Jin Soon, immediately reminded me of OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques (one of my all time favorites) – a slightly lighter version with frosty sparkle, anyway. It took me about three seconds to decide I couldn’t leave without a bottle on my person. Sadly, it was not meant to be. The saleswoman apologetically explained that they had sold out of the shade and wasn’t sure that they’d get any more in stock.
While forced to leave the store empty handed, I decided that I wouldn’t leave with nekkid nails. So I brazenly took the tester bottle and gave myself a quick mani right there at the counter. How tacky is that? I know, I know…I’m a mess. Ain’t no shame in my game.
Undeterred, I left Nordstrom and headed to MAC’s freestanding store in another section of the mall. Once again, in the words of Cher Horowitz, I was brutally rebuffed. Another MAC artist informed me of the shade’s popularity and explained that it had sold out almost immediately. So when I returned home, I juiced up my laptop and ordered myself a bottle online. Thank God for e-commerce.
Earthly Harmony and the rest of the MAC Nail Trend F/W ’10 collection is available, for a limited time, at maccosmetics.com and nordstrom.com. Heed my advice and nail this shade down before it’s going, going, gone.
This summer, I was a little late jumping on the Chanel Nouvelle Vague nail polish bandwagon. By the time I discovered the rockin’ robin’s egg blue lacquer at a local salon, I could only get a manicure. Buying a bottle there – or anywhere else – was out of the question, as the shade was sold out everywhere. Well, except for eBay, where a single bottle had a price tag of $75.
After missing out on Nouvelle Vague, I swore I would never again be tardy to a Chanel LE VERNIS party. And I don’t want you to be singing the shoulda woulda coulda’s either. Which is why I beseech you to buy Les Khakis De Chanel, a collection of three nail polishes developed in celebration of Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out.
Three limited-editions hues (Khaki Rose, a dusky pink-beige; Khaki Vert, a mossy foam green; and Khaki Brun, a pale stony taupe) are must-haves for any beauty lover’s polish collection…especially if you’re like me and appreciate an edgy, neutral nail. The shades can be worn alone, but I’ve been told they can be particularly edgy when all three are painted in an alternating, camouflage-y pattern.
Considering I’ve got my hands full with a 3 week old baby, I’m gonna stick to a minimal mani and leave the artistry to you nail philes out there.
Les Khakis De Chanel are now available at Chanel boutiques, Chanel.com and select department stores.
A judge may have sentenced Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in jail followed by a 90 day stint in rehab, but it was the wild child – or rather her manicure – that had the last word(s).
What do you think of LiLo giving the judge the middle finger, on the down low? Should the court hold Lindsay, and her profane polish, in contempt? Or should they just be thankful her crazy ass actually showed up this time?
