Because Shaving is the Pits: DERMAdoctor Gorilla Warfare Antiperspirant Giveaway!

My hair grows like a weed. Unfortunately, the hair of which I speak is not on my head. My legs and underarms give my razor a workout. If I shave in the morning, by afternoon, I've got stubble. And forget about skipping days...unless I want to look like Sasquatch. Getting rid of the hair is not only expensive (I CONTINUE READING

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: BlowPro Perfect Shower Cap

The shower and my chemically-straightened hair are frenemies. Every seventh day when I wash my hair, they get along great in a shampoo Shangri-la. But the rest of the week, I employ a shower cap to keep the steam from undoing the silky straightness. I have been wearing shower caps since I was a child, and I’ve tried them CONTINUE READING

Get Catty With Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses

I've been searching for some cat eye sunnies for forever. On a whim, I bought these Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses from Shopbop - hoping that they wouldn't look too cartoonish. Even though I was afraid they'd be too large, I'm digging the oversized frames. They make a statement without overwhelming my face. And the cat eye shape is subtle, so it's not CONTINUE READING

Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING

Polished, But A Bit Rough Around The Edges

sehorabuffer Polished, But A Bit Rough Around The EdgesI’m a woman who likes to look polished, but never seems to have the time to pull it off. So on a trip to Sephora last week, I picked up their Professionnel Electrical Buffer. This battery-operated, nail buffer promises professional, salon quality results at home. It includes three detachable buffing pads: a heavier grit for shaping, a super-fine grit for smoothing, and a foam pad for adding luster.

This gadget is ideal for smoothing nails in preparation for polish, and for creating a natural buffed shine. Unfortunately, the filing attachment leaves much to be desired; with this tool, it might take you all day to file down a snagged nail – so don’t throw out your trusty emery board just yet.

All things considered, it was $20 well spent…and used in tandem with my OPI Ridge Filler, my nail routine is going to be smooth sailing.

Cocktail Napkins Raise the Bar

Don’t you just hate how, after removing your nail polish with remover and cotton balls, it leaves annoying fuzzies behind? The most exasperating part about it is that I never seem to notice the cotton fibers until I’ve applied fresh polish; and suddenly, there they are – wrecking my brand new paint job.

nailtini Cocktail Napkins Raise the BarWell, I just found the solution – Nailtini Cocktail Napkins. These convenient squares, soaked in acetone-free polish remover and cuticle conditioners, are fuzz-free – so you can easily nail your manicure (ba-dum-bum, ching).

For $12, you get 40 lime-scented squares in each travel-friendly pack.

Double Duty

nailpolishremover Double DutyDid you know that nail polish remover does more than just remove nail polish? Accessories designer Melanie Dizon revealed to Lucky Magazine how she uses this beauty staple to clean patent leather.

What you’ll need: A couple of cotton balls and a bottle of standard-issue nail polish remover.

How it’s done: Immediately after wear, spot-clean surface stain by lightly rubbing with a cotton ball doused in nail polish remover. Air dry for five minutes then store the item in a cool place.

Then I Saw My Nails, Now I’m A Believer

I’m the woman whose nails are never done. Not because I don’t care, but because the odds are never in my favor. It’s usually because my husband is complaining that the fumes kill his brain cells. Or I’m too exhausted to spend the hour and a half that it takes to properly do my nails. But even when I do make the time to give myself a manicure – inevitably, I get an itch that just has to be scratched, and I end up destroying the polish on one or more of my digits.

That’s why I was so excited about Incoco Dry Nail Appliqués, which “take a few minutes and result in professional manicure quality.” But being the skeptic that I am, I didn’t honestly think that this product would hold a candle to a trip to the nail salon – but beggers can’t be choosers, so I gave them a try.

Incoco DNA Then I Saw My Nails, Now I’m A BelieverThe Incoco Dry Nail Appliqués are dry strips of polish (basecoat, color, and topcoat layered and dried to the touch) that you fit to your nail size, peel off the backing paper, affix to your nail, and file off the extra. So, last night, I applied the appliqués according to the directions…and when I was through 20 minutes later, I couldn’t believe my eyes! For the first time in two months, my nails were done – and they looked like I had gotten them professionally done!

With Incoco Dry Nail Appliqués, there’s no smudging, no waiting, and no dead brain cells. The enamel bonds to natural and acrylic nails, for a manicure that lasts up to 14 days.

Available in 20 colors and 6 French Manicure shades (I’m modeling ‘Pink Satin’), each Incoco Dry Nail Appliqués kit contains 20 nail color strips, a mini nail buff, an orange stick, and a polish remover cloth. Sold exclusively at Walgreen’s.
