Mom and me, circa 1979

Mother’s Day is this Sunday and I’m so excited. Not just because Mr. Spoiled Pretty and my son, Westley, are treating me to a decadent brunch. But because it’s an opportunity to celebrate my hero, Andrea Stamps.
I must admit that until two years ago, Mother’s Day was just another CONTINUE READING
At Christmastime, I agonized over what to get my son's daycare teachers. There are 12 of them - and even though he has his two main teachers, they all have interaction with him and take excellent care of him. So I needed to buy 12 gifts to show my appreciation, without breaking the bank. $10 each seemed doable, except CONTINUE READING
As a beauty expert, I’m embarrassed by how late I am to the BB Cream party. In the past year, so many friends and colleagues have asked me about BB Creams—what’s the buzz, which brands are the best, etc. —and they would look at me funny when I admitted to not having tried BB Creams yet. I mean, they CONTINUE READING
I’m very fickle about my fingernails. Before I paint my nails or get them professionally did, I spend a inordinate amount of time pondering my polish options. I consider the season, recent trends, my wardrobe that week and anywhere special I might go. But despite all of this planning, I’m usually over my polish choice before it even dries.

After beauty products, handbags are my secondary addiction. But when it comes to arm candy, I have discriminating taste. For me, the perfect handbag seamlessly marries fashion with function, is handcrafted from high-quality materials, has really unique hardware and is classic but edgy - all at the same time. I don't like to carry the of-the-moment "it" bag. I CONTINUE READING

This spring, GUESS by Marciano unveils its newest fragrance for women. The GUESS by Marciano fragrance celebrates the power of the trend-setting woman and was created to inspire glamour, and sensuality. This delectable fragrance is united by zesty, invigorating fruits and vibrant florals and then balanced by warm, rounded, woody notes.
GUESS by Marciano entices the senses with sparkling, flirty top notes of Star Fruit, Grapefruit and Curaçao Orange brushed with the sexy spiciness of Cardamom. A fresh bouquet of Peony, Pink Honeysuckle and Crystal Jasmine blossom is the heart, embracing the scent with feminine nuances and passion. The background of Blonde Wood, Vanilla and Dulce de Leche blended with Musk captivates and seduces as it envelops the fragrance in sensual ambiance.
GUESS by Marciano has become my go-to fragrance for those days when I’m looking sweet, but feeling sassy. This week, Spoiled Pretty is giving you the chance to win a bottle of your own.
Five lucky winners will receive a 3.4 oz bottle of Guess by Marciano Eau de Parfum – a $65 value!
To enter, send an email to email@example.com – be sure to include your full name. The subject line should read “Guess Giveaway.” The contest ends at 9pm EST on Sunday, April 27th. Winners will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Monday, April 28th, I’ll announce the winners’ names. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents only.
I don’t typically get excited about warm weather fragrances. Smelling like the beach, fruit cocktail or a bouquet of wildflowers just isn’t me. So when I took a whiff of John Varvatos’ long-anticipated fragrance for women, I was pleasantly surprised. And after a few spritzes, I was hooked.
Varvatos drew his inspiration from the kind of woman who intrigues him…
She’s an uptown sophisticate and a downtown bohemian, but she is far from being all things to all people – she is ever herself. She loves socializing in the comfort o home, going out with friends to understated gallery openings, films, concerts and reading. She mixes high and low effortlessly – shopping at flea markets, vintage stores, jewelry auctions, and the hippest boutiques to create her confident, individual and uniquely chic style. This style extends beyond her wardrobe and is ever present in her home and her surroundings. She is a natural beauty with a quiet intensity born of intelligence and accomplishment. Unmistakably sexy, she exudes a soft sensuality that is universally appealing.
Notes include: Aromatic Grappa, Georgian apricot, Damascus plum, and golden mandarin (top); rubrum lilies, Indian mango blossom, Egyptian jasmine, and Turkish rose attar (middle); oak moss, patchouli, tonka beans, and wild honey (base).
The feminine, sophisticated scent is available in several incarnations. The Parfum ($125) and Eau de Parfum ($70-92) are packaged in forms reminiscent of Italian grappa bottles. The Moisturizing Body Milk ($50) won’t hydrate parched skin, but will leave behind a delicate scent that’s wonderfully warm on its own, and perfect for layering.
My favorite of the collection is the Cleansing Body Oil with Natural Exfoliating Grains ($58). The body cleanser is enriched with antioxidant vitamin E and jojoba oil to help nourish skin; and when you want to turn your shower into a spa, mix in some of the crushed granules to slough away dead skin.
This Fall, Gwen Stefani will debut Harajuku Lovers, a collection of five new fragrances. The perfumes will be bottled in “dolls” designed by Stefani, based on herself and her backup dancers, The Harajuku Girls – Love, Angel, Music and Baby.
Love is a sensuous floral with notes of bergamot, pink pomelo, peach, bamboo leaf mist, watery peony, living hydroponic lace rose, jasmine sambac, nectarine blossom, creamy paperwhites, Egyptian jasmine, ylang ylang, vanilla orchid, musk and blond wood.
Lil’ Angel is a fruity floral with notes of raspberry, cranberry, blackberry, pineapple, pear blossom, candied violet, sugared rose, lollipop accord, hinoki wood and crystal amber.
Music is a delicate floral with notes of clementine, sparkling pear, jasmine sambac, sweet pea, honeysuckle, vanilla, skin musk and sleek woods.
Baby is a powdery musk with notes of freesia, bergamot, white rose, orange flower, tiare flower, jasmine petals, white musk, soft woods, heliotrope, vanilla and violet.
G is a modern gourmand with notes of mandarin, fresh coconut, apple skin, jasmine sambac, freesia, magnolia vapor, coconut cream, white sandalwood and cottonwoods.
“I didn’t think this project would actually come to life,” Stefani said. “The idea that Coty would let me do five different fragrances for Harajuku Lovers was a fantasy. But it really had to be five, because that’s what the world is. Each girl has her own personality and sense of style. We’re all saying something different with unique personalities.”
Though her new fragrances haven’t yet been released, Gwen is already thinking about the future, and how she will continue to build her empire.
“I would love to have a full L.A.M.B. beauty line one day,” she told WWD. “It makes sense. I’ve always loved doing my hair and makeup and getting all dressed up. When I have a party or an event to go to, getting ready is just as much fun as actually going out.”
In the U.S., the collection will be sold in some department and specialty stores, including Macy’s, Nordstrom, Dillard’s and Sephora. The lineup will also be sold in 17 international markets, including Japan, the U.K., France, Australia, Germany and China.
Harajuku Lovers will hit stores in September, and each scent will be available in two sizes: $45 for 30 ml. and $25 for 10 ml. A coffret, which includes solid perfume versions of all five, will be on counter later this fall as a permanent addition to the collection, and will retail for $60. “They’re value-priced to encourage multiple purchases,” said Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American Fragrances for Coty Prestige.
Fabulosity (n): a state of everything that is fabulous.
Kimora Lee Simmons, entrepreneur extraordinaire, has turned her catchphrase into her newest money maker. Fabulosity – her third fragrance – is a fruity Oriental mix of Forbidden Fruit, Orange Blossom, Tiger Lily, Coconut Milk, Damask Black Plum, Chinese Osmanthus, White Patchouli, Tasmanian Honey, Amber, and Vanilla Absolute.
“Yes, I’m over the top, and yes, I’m unapologetic, and yes, I have really big diamonds, but I have an equally big heart and an equally big spirit,” she says.
I’m a sucker for pretty packaging, so it’s no wonder that I’m obsessed with the diamond-shaped bottle – which, if it were real, would equate to 3,000 carats.
The Fabulosity collection includes: 1.7oz Eau de Parfum, $45 3.4 oz Eau de Parfum, $55, 6 oz. Body Soufflé, $30 5.2 oz. Bath Diamonds (bath salts), $30
Available now at Macys.

Paula, one of the Deseo giveaway winners, sent me this glowing review of her prize:
I was one of the winners of the Deseo spray and lotion contest that you had recently. I wanted to email you and rave about how much I love this scent. I must admit, I didn’t know what to expect, being a celebrity fragrance, but this is just wonderful. I am not good with “fragrance notes” but I do know what smells good and good on me – and this definitely shines. I have been layering the scent almost every morning since I recieved it, and have gotten many compliments from co-workers wanting to know what I was wearing – and then being surprised to know it was a Jennifer Lopez scent.
My 74-year-old mother was there when I opened it, so I put it on her, too. It smelled different on her, but still equally pleasant. She was quite taken with it, so now I am keeping a close eye on my bathroom to make sure it doesn’t mysteriously move into hers.
So, it’s definitely good for different types and admired by many. I want to thank you sincerely for offering this contest and I am so happy to have won and let you know my opinions.
