Salon Rouge: Blown Away By My Blowout

When it comes to beauty, few things make me happier than a professional blowout. I always feel my prettiest after someone tugs on my tresses with a round brush and blasts them with hot air. Why? Well, because I can get away with wearing my glasses, no makeup, jeans and a t-shirt – and still look totally fabulous. That’s the beauty of a blowout.

So when Salon Rouge invited me to get my hair did over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, you know I immediately RSVP’d with a resounding “YES!!!!”

While Salon Rouge isn’t exactly in my neighborhood (it’s located in Cherry Hill, NJ), I had such a wonderful experience that I would gladly cross state lines and pay the $3 bridge toll again for such sleek and chic hair.

First, hairstylist Heather shampooed me using Bumble and bumble Tonic Shampoo, which has Tea Tree Oil and Peppermint extracts to soothe my itchy/dry scalp, balance oil, stimulate circulation. I loved the tingle! Then she shampooed again with Bumble and bumble Alojoba Shampoo – a lightweight, moisture-rich smoothie that combines Aloe Vera Gel, Jojoba Seed Oil, Cucumber and Chamomile for soft, shiny hair. She followed up the shampoo with the Alojoba Conditioner, which also smoothes and softens.

Once the conditioner was rinsed out, Heather sprayed Bumble and bumble Tonic Lotion at the roots and all over to detangle and prepare my hair for styling; this leave-in conditioner is a must-have for those with dry, coarse, porous or colored hair. While my hair was still damp, Heather squeezed a couple drops of Bumble and bumble Defrizz into her hands and distributed throughout my hands. She explained that Defrizz is the perfect prep product before a blowout because it protects against frizz, acts as a barrier to humidity and leaves hair silky and flyaway-free – but she warns not to get overzealous because a little goes a long way.

Then Heather gave me a blowout that blew me away. It took almost no time at all, and she has a very gentle technique. My bangs were almost past my nose, so I asked her to shorten and thicken them up – and she trimmed them to perfection. Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I was so happy with my bangs. Finally, she sprayed my hair with Bb.Shine before flat ironing to protect and add a polished finish.

If you’re in the Greater Philadelphia/South Jersey area, I highly recommend you pay Salon Rouge a visit…and tell Heather that Spoiled Pretty says “hi.”

Blame It On The Rain

As you are already aware, rainy days and Mondays always get me down. Yes, I realize that rain is a part of nature and helps to sustain life as we know it. But is it shallow of me to hate how it messes with my hair?

Luckily, Frédéric Fekkai feels the pain of hair-obsessed ladies living in a rain ravaged world.

For a limited time, they’ll be offering complimentary umbrellas to all salon patrons who brave the rain for any hair service. The umbrellas are free for those clients receiving treatments, and ten dollars for all other customers.

Offer available at the following Fekkai salons: 5th Avenue, SoHo, Greenwich, Dallas, Beverly Hills, Melrose Place and Palm Beach.

Blowout at Ted Gibson Salon Blows My Mind!

Yesterday morning after arriving in NYC for Fashion Week and dropping my bags off at the hotel, I high-tailed it to the Ted Gibson Salon on 5th Avenue.

Jason Backe, who recently dyed my hair to the most gorge hot chocolate hue, arranged for Amber and me to get our tresses blown out. Vincenza, before shampooing me with Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo (which smells DIVINE, by the by), was shocked by the softness of my hair. She was even more astounded when I told her it was thanks to Nice ‘N Easy ColorSeal Conditioning Gloss.

Laisam rubbed a Ted Gibson Hair Sheet on my towel-dried hair to rejuvinate my locks and protect against UV rays and environmental damage, then she blowed out my hair to perfection. While Laisam skillfully styled my hair, she entertained me with funny stories about her mom – whose crazy antics remind me a lot of Mama Spoiled Pretty.

Before Laisam sent me on my way, to grace New York with my bomb blowout, she rubbed a little shine serum on my hair to make it shine like the top of the Chrystler building. This product isn’t yet on shelves, as Ted is still testing it…but Laisam has a great pet name for it; she calls it “crack juice” because once you use it, it becomes an addiction.

Once you turn crack, you never turn back.

Shobha Giveaway!!!

Spending summers with her grandmother in the city of Hyderabad, Shobha Tummala learned the secrets of Indian beauty, including ancient methods used for hair removal. “My grandmother made all my beauty products herself,” says Tummala. “Hair conditioner was created from crushed hibiscus petals picked from a tree in our backyard; soap from a mixture of shaved sandalwood and lentils. Moisturizer was just the cream from fresh milk.”

After graduating from Harvard Business School and working at a variety of businesses, Tummala founded three luxury New York City salons. The menu of services includes facials, threading, sugaring, waxing and henna.

The Shobha product line is a natural, pun intended, extension of the salons – putting a modern spin on India’s centuries-old beauty and well-being philosophies.

This week, Spoiled Pretty has partnered with Shobha for a giveaway! Three lucky winners will receive:

* My First Brazilian Kit: This three-step kit provides Shobha essentials for maintaining the bikini area after hair removal, to ensure optimal upkeep for all those who bikini wax. Includes hydrocortisone cream, Exfoliating Cloth, and Freshening Cloths.

* Ingrown Relief Lotion: Shobha’s newest product is a one-step solution for hair removal aftercare that treats and prevents ingrowns without being harsh or drying. The fast-absorbing lotion is free of parabens, color, and artificial fragrance. Glycolic acid exfoliates by removing dead skin, which can clog hair follicles and re-direct hair growth inward; Vitamin A improves skin tone and texture; Tea Tree Oil protects by naturally fighting off irritation; Glycerin keeps skin soft and hydrated; and Chamomile soothes and eliminates the tell-tale signs of post-hair removal sensitivity.

To enter, send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name. The subject line should read “Shobha Giveaway.” The contest ends at midnight (EST) on Tuesday, August 12th. Three winners will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Wednesday, August 13th, I’ll announce the winners’ names. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. and Canadian residents only.

Good luck!
