I’m home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers – all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don’t know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I’m channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it’s damn near impossible for me to change the station.
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I caught a demonstration from a beauty brand I’d never heard of: Tatcha. Victoria Tsai, the brand’s creator, was talking about the inspiration behind the brand (ancient Geisha skincare traditions) and demonstrating some skincare products - and she had my undivided attention. And I’m not easily impressed. I was this close to ordering, but I’m sleep-deprived and ended up passing out before I got a chance to order. The next week, I was so preoccupied that I forgot about Tatcha – until they sent me an email. They offered to send me some products to sample. And after using them for the past few weeks, I am ADDICTED. No…seriously. I now have a legitimate Tatcha habit.
Tatcha sent me their Ritual Discovery Kit, to introduce me to the brand. The kit contains four of their core skincare products:
- PURE One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil
- POLISHED Rice Enzyme Powder
- RADIANT Deep Brightening Serum
- SUPPLE Moisture Rich Silk Cream
I’m a busy woman and I like to keep my daily beauty routine streamlined. So if you would have told me that my morning routine would involve using four products, I would’ve rolled my eyes. But not only am I using these products faithfully every day, I actually look forward to it. CONTINUE READING

Every month, my girlfriends from college and I get together for dinner in the Philadelphia area. We started this tradition about two years ago, and – of course – we have a great time catching up and reminiscing! Most of them are product-obsessed (like me), and most have been through some sort of make-up introductory when we became “of age” to wear it. Now that we are in our 30s, I thought it was a great time to learn more about skincare (ugh, the dreaded lines and wrinkles) and how to apply make up that works for us now.
I instantly thought of my friend, Claire Sloss, who works for Laura Mercier
at Nordstrom in the King of Prussia Mall. They offer a Master Makeup Class, free of charge. There is a maximum of 15 people – we found that 12 was a great number, as there are Laura Mercier artists working with a couple of girls at one time to see what best works for them. Claire just requires a few weeks to plan the logistics – and offered with the class are refreshments and the products that you would like to purchase. The class is done in a private room so you can spread out, ask a lot of questions and have fun!
We had a fabulous time! Luis Soto
was our lead artist that evening, and he selected me to be his model! I admit, I was awe-struck because he has worked with many celebrities including Cher, Cindy Lauper, and N’Sync! “What, you touched Justin Timberlake’s face?!?” Yeah, the 15-year-old in me came out!!!
One of my all-time favorite products is Dermadoctor KP Duty, a dual action body exfoliator that combines the benefits of a chemical peel and microdermabrasion. It was developed to treat chicken skin – those little red bumps that many people get on their upper arms. But, for years, I’ve been using it to exfoliate my legs pre-shave. There’s really no body exfoliator that comes close to KP Duty.
Anyway, KP Duty’s skincare counterpart is Physical Chemistry – Dermadoctor’s exfoliating facial. Again, it combines the benefits of a chemical peel and microdermabrasion into a simple-to-use, powerfully effective yet gentle scrub. You simply apply it to dry skin, rub it in with your fingertips, rinse and pat dry. That’s it.
I tried it for the first time this week and I literally asked myself why it’s taken me so long to get acquainted with this product. CONTINUE READING

Neutrogena announced today that Emmy nominated actress (and my homegirl) Kerry Washington has joined the brand’s current roster of talent. Smart move, right? I mean…just look at this goddess’s face!
Not only will Kerry be one of the faces for Neutrogena – but for the first time ever, she will also serve as a “creative consultant” to the brand, sharing her valuable insights with the marketing, scientific, and retail teams. CONTINUE READING

A few weeks ago, Philadelphia Style Magazine interviewed me for a feature on their website. Since I’m a beauty junkie and can’t resist the opportunity to dish on my favorite products, the story evolved into “Daneen Baird of Spoiled Pretty’s 6 Fall Beauty Picks.” As a Philly gal (born and raised) and a big fan of the magazine (I made the print edition back in 2008 – less than a year after launching this blog), it was awesome to come full circle and to be profiled again. Here’s how they introduced me…
Beauty blogger extraordinaire and Philadelphia resident Daneen Baird knows a thing or two about putting your best face forward. At the helm of the award-winning website, Spoiled Pretty, Baird is constantly ahead-of-the-trend and in-the-know when it comes to the latest and greatest in beauty products and cosmetics. From nail polish reviews to insider tricks of the trade, Baird dishes it all with a bit of sass.
