My complexion is far from perfect. Like many women, I struggle with imperfect skin. But masking these imperfections with foundations and concealers can lead to a vicious cycle. Yes, heavy face makeup camouflages your problem areas, but they can exacerbate skin issues, leaving you more dependent on these products.

For many of the 16 million Americans living with the chronic, inflammatory skin disorder called rosacea, makeup has become a crutch rather than a fun accessory. In fact, if you’ve been covering up your facial redness instead of treating it, you are not alone—many rosacea sufferers use cosmetics to cover up redness.

It’s time to break the cycle. Stop concealing and start healing. Mirvaso® (brimonidine) Topical Gel, 0.33%* is one of Galderma’s prescription products, and is the first and only prescription treatment specifically developed and indicated to treat the persistent facial redness of rosacea. Apply Mirvaso Gel to your face once daily and it may start working in as little as 30 minutes. Mirvaso Gel won’t just cover up redness, it may reduce redness for up to 12 hours!

Galderma Laboratories, L.P., the brand behind Mirvaso Gel, is hosting a contest to raise awareness of the condition and to encourage those who suffer from rosacea to “Break Up with Your Makeup.” Submit a no-makeup selfie along with a 100-word story about your experience with rosacea for a chance to win a trip to NYC for the NY Film Festival.

Dana’s Secrets for Healthy and Hydrated Skin

dana skincare routine 1024x768 Danas Secrets for Healthy and Hydrated SkinWhen it comes to my skin care routine, I use a variety of products.  I’m attracted to what smells good, feels good and what works for me. Then again who isn’t?  After many years of experimenting, I finally have figured out a great combination for me. That bold statement was verified yesterday when I received a HUGE compliment (at least to me it was huge).

I saw my esthetician yesterday for an eyebrow clean up. I always dread laying down under that bright light where she can clearly see all of my flaws. I was getting ready to defend my pores, just like how I have to defend my flossing habits to my dentist, when she said, “You are doing a great job keeping your skin hydrated. Your face is one of the best that I have seen all day.”  “What, really?! Thanks!” was my response.

We all know the importance of keeping our skin cleansed and hydrated…so I won’t bore you with all of that, instead this is what I do everyday: (more…)

Tatcha, I’m So Glad I Gotcha

tatcha ad Tatcha, Im So Glad I Gotcha

I’m home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers – all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don’t know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I’m channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it’s damn near impossible for me to change the station.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I caught a demonstration from a beauty brand I’d never heard of: Tatcha. Victoria Tsai, the brand’s creator, was talking about the inspiration behind the brand (ancient Geisha skincare traditions) and demonstrating some skincare products – and she had my undivided attention. And I’m not easily impressed. I was this close to ordering, but I’m sleep-deprived and ended up passing out before I got a chance to order. The next week, I was so preoccupied that I forgot about Tatcha – until they sent me an email. They offered to send me some products to sample. And after using them for the past few weeks, I am ADDICTED. No…seriously. I now have a legitimate Tatcha habit.  (more…)

Laura Mercier Master Class: Makeup Bag Must-Haves in Your 30s

laura mercier cosmetics makeup Laura Mercier Master Class: Makeup Bag Must Haves in Your 30s

Every month, my girlfriends from college and I get together for dinner in the Philadelphia area. We started this tradition about two years ago, and – of course – we have a great time catching up and reminiscing!  Most of them are product-obsessed (like me), and most have been through some sort of make-up introductory when we became “of age” to wear it.  Now that we are in our 30s, I thought it was a great time to learn more about skincare (ugh, the dreaded lines and wrinkles) and how to apply make up that works for us now.

.

I instantly thought of my friend, Claire Sloss, who works for Laura Mercier at Nordstrom in the King of Prussia Mall.  They offer a Master Makeup Class, free of charge. There is a maximum of 15 people – we found that 12 was a great number, as there are Laura Mercier artists working with a couple of girls at one time to see what best works for them. Claire just requires a few weeks to plan the logistics – and offered with the class are refreshments and the products that you would like to purchase. The class is done in a private room so you can spread out, ask a lot of questions and have fun!

.

We had a fabulous time! Luis Soto was our lead artist that evening, and he selected me to be his model!  I admit, I was awe-struck because he has worked with many celebrities including Cher, Cindy Lauper, and N’Sync!  “What, you touched Justin Timberlake’s face?!?”  Yeah, the 15-year-old in me came out!!!
