Because Shaving is the Pits: DERMAdoctor Gorilla Warfare Antiperspirant Giveaway!

My hair grows like a weed. Unfortunately, the hair of which I speak is not on my head. My legs and underarms give my razor a workout. If I shave in the morning, by afternoon, I've got stubble. And forget about skipping days...unless I want to look like Sasquatch. Getting rid of the hair is not only expensive (I CONTINUE READING

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: BlowPro Perfect Shower Cap

The shower and my chemically-straightened hair are frenemies. Every seventh day when I wash my hair, they get along great in a shampoo Shangri-la. But the rest of the week, I employ a shower cap to keep the steam from undoing the silky straightness. I have been wearing shower caps since I was a child, and I’ve tried them CONTINUE READING

Get Catty With Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses

I've been searching for some cat eye sunnies for forever. On a whim, I bought these Wildfox Catfarer Sunglasses from Shopbop - hoping that they wouldn't look too cartoonish. Even though I was afraid they'd be too large, I'm digging the oversized frames. They make a statement without overwhelming my face. And the cat eye shape is subtle, so it's not CONTINUE READING

Now that I have two kids - and the youngest being 6 weeks old - I needed to get better acquainted with quick-dry nail polish options. I hardly have time to do anything, let alone a DIY - so I needed to find some lacquers that fit my new lifestyle. Yesterday, while going my grocery shopping, I picked up Revlon CONTINUE READING

Tatcha, I'm So Glad I Gotcha

I'm home on maternity leave, so I spend an inordinate amount of time nursing my daughter, burping her and changing her diapers - all the while, watching hours of QVC. I don't know what it is, but I am mesmerized by QVC demonstrations. If I'm channel surfing and I happen to land on QVC, it's damn near impossible for CONTINUE READING

spoiled+pretty+extensions My First Curling Iron in Two Years: h2Pro
Just in case you were wondering how I achieved the Giselle waves in my clip-in hair extension video, I’ll tell you…I used h2pro’s Ceramic Curling Iron. After two years of using my flat iron to straighten and curl, I decided that a curling iron might be a wise addition to my hair styling tool kit.

h2pro+curling+iron My First Curling Iron in Two Years: h2ProThe h2pro has an adjustable temperature setting range which is easily viewed on the digital LCD temperature display. Just be aware that the temperature is in Celsius, rather than Fahrenheit…so pay attention, or else your mane might be feeling the burn.

The curling iron also features an easy-to-use spring grip, 360° swivel cord, built-in kickstand, circuit breaker and cool-touch tip for safe styling. And despite my iron’s 3/4″ barrel, it delivered both perfect tight spirals and undulating waves!

For the 2009 Oscars, hairstylist Julie Baker used FHI Heat hair tools to help create a very elegant, modern chignon for her longtime client Queen Latifah.

queen latifah academy awards 2009 Oscars 2009 Beauty: Queen Latifah“Latifah’s dress is very elegant, modern and chic, and her hair needs to complement this, so we decided on a modern chignon which features very smooth hair, a side part, bangs that swoop down in front, a low bun in the back that is off to the side,” said Baker.

To achieve this glamorous modern look, Baker dried Latifah’s hair using the new FHI Heat Nano Salon Pro 2000 blow dryer, then applied FHI Heat Hot Sauce (a heat-activated conditioner that protects hair) to slightly damp hair. Last, she used her favorite FHI Heat Runway styling iron to smooth out Latifah’s tresses, before styling it into a chignon.

Get Giselle-like Waves For Less Than $30 With the Remington AirWave

Posted on by daneen in Hair, Hair Styling, Tools | Leave a comment

The other day, Amber was sporting the most gorge Giselle-esque waves. When I inquired how I could cop her style, she shocked me. Amber didn’t use a curling iron or flat iron to style her hair. She used a hair dryer – Remington’s new Emi Style System Dryer with Airwave Attachment, to be exact. And get this…it costs $29.99!

You best believe I’m getting a hold of the AirWave right quick. Hopefully, it also works on ethnic hair. I’ll keep you posted.

The Remington AirWave is available at drugstore.com, though Target is selling it for $7 cheaper.

On her blog, Kim Kardashian answers some beauty-related fan mail. When asked about the curling iron she used to create her inauguration night look (see above), Kim responded:

I use Hot Tools curling irons. They have a bunch of different sizes. If you want smaller, tighter curls, go with a smaller iron. If you want bigger, sexy curls, go with a larger one! Since your hair is so long, I’d suggest you use their 2-inch model for bigger waves! Happy hairstyling!

What’s The Scoop?

Posted on by daneen in Nails, Tools | 1 Comment

nail scoop Whats The Scoop?I love nail polish. But to be honest – I don’t wear it all that often because I’m too lazy/busy to do them myself or to go get them done. So nine times out of ten, you’ll see me with bare nails.

Because I sport nekkid nails so often, one of my pet peeves is gunk under my fingernails. Anytime I’m playing the waiting game or trying to kill time, I find myself picking at my nails – making sure they’re not embarrassing me.

I used to think that orange sticks were great, but you really don’t know what you’re missing until you’ve tried the Sephora Brand Nail Scoop Cleaner. It’s got this miniature scoop on the one end that really gets under nails and removes every little bit of debris. Quickly and easily. It’s one of those beauty implements that makes you think, “What did I ever do without this in my life?”
