Because my hair is over-processed, dry and damaged, I only wash it about once a week. Which means that when I “do” it, I better do it right – or else my hair will look jacked for the next seven days. Forget a bad hair day; it’s more like a bad hair week for me. So when I’m offered the chance to review new hair product samples to review, I’m usually reluctant. But not this time, because it was Pantene doing the offering—and I’m a big fan of the brand.
A few weeks ago, Pantene reached out with an offer to send me one of their new-ish lines to review: Truly Relaxed or Truly Natural. I have chemically straightened hair and have used the Truly Relaxed products off-and-on for almost a year (they’re pretty fabulous), so I opted to try the Truly Natural line. Even though my hair hasn’t been in its “natural” state for almost three decades, the product descriptions contained important buzz words like “moisture,” “shine,” and “frizz control”—so I decided to give them a try.
Here’s what Pantene sent me:
Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural Clarifying Shampoo is “designed to gently cleanse your hair’s unique structure and remove buildup—leaving it shiny, clean, and refreshed.” Overall, I really liked this shampoo. It effectively cleansed my hair, but was gentle while doing so. It smells fresh and I love that the formula is silicone, Paraben and dye-free. (more…)
This weekend, grab your girlfriends and go see The Best Man Holiday – which hits theaters today.
On Tuesday, I attended a screening with Mama Spoiled Pretty and her BFF, Estelle – and we had so much fun. We laughed hard and cried harder (this rom-com is also a tearjerker – so bring some tissues). In fact, I got so choked up at one point that I had to remind myself that this is a movie and the actors are all fine IRL. Anyway, here’s the movie description:
After nearly 15 years apart, Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Monica Calhoun, Melissa De Sousa and Regina Hall reprise their career-launching roles in The Best Man Holiday, the long-awaited next chapter to the film that ushered in a new era of comedy. When the college friends finally reunite over the Christmas holidays, they will discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be ignited. (more…)
As a beauty expert, women always ask me for tips on long-lasting, fresh-looking, flawless makeup. And my answer is always the same: make time to prime. It doesn’t matter whether you have 50 minutes or 5 minutes to apply your makeup – you should always take the time to prep your canvas to achieve the best result possible. You wouldn’t apply a saturated, matte lipstick to dry and cracking lips – would you? And you wouldn’t dream of wearing that bodycon dress without slipping into some Spanx, right? The same theory applies to your face.
Now that you understand the importance of prime time—as I like to call it—it’s equally important to find the right priming products for you. Primers aren’t just the product you put on your face before foundation. In fact, my favorite primers are actual skincare products that have priming benefits. As a mom and a businesswoman, I have very little time to mess around – so I appreciate priming products that do double duty, like two of my new favorites from Olay Regenerist. (more…)
Neutrogena announced today that Emmy nominated actress (and my homegirl) Kerry Washington has joined the brand’s current roster of talent. Smart move, right? I mean…just look at this goddess’s face!
Not only will Kerry be one of the faces for Neutrogena – but for the first time ever, she will also serve as a “creative consultant” to the brand, sharing her valuable insights with the marketing, scientific, and retail teams. (more…)
As you probably know, I am a marketing professional by day, a beauty blogger by night and a mom/wife 24/7. But what you may not know is that, after graduating from college, I attended law school. Ultimately, I chose a different path – which makes me much happier. What doesn’t make me happy, however, are the school loans I’ve been paying off for the past 10 years…and I still have a ways to go. Every month, it pains me to pay off an education that I’m not even using.
I’ve often fantasized about how awesome it would be if I had discovered my talents for marketing and communications a few years earlier, so that I could have bypassed law school and saved myself a lot of money. And I’ve sometimes wished that I could go back and make some different decisions – knowing what I know now.
The only snafu with this fantasy is that I met Graham – aka Mr. Spoiled Pretty – on the first day of law school. We became best friends our first year, started dating the second year and we’ve been together ever since (12 years and going strong). So while I sometimes regret going to law school and incurring all of that student loan debt, the truth is that the amazing life I’ve built with Graham is invaluable and I wouldn’t want to change a thing about it.
