Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue

prada infusion dIris eau de parfum absolue Prada Infusion dIris Absolue

Prada Infusion d’Iris Eau de Parfum is one of my signature scents. In 2007, when I gifted Mama Spoiled Pretty with a bottle for Christmas, I was seduced by its charm, and I’ve been wearing it ever since. In fact, I carry a full-sized bottle in my handbag. So when Prada announced Infusion d’Iris Absolue Eau de Parfum, a sequel to the award-winning original, I couldn’t wait to get a whiff.

Unfortunately, it was originally only sold at Neiman Marcus. Neiman is a little rich for my blood, so I it took me a while to get my my hands on one of the gold-adorned bottles. But, in the past few months, I’ve noticed the perfume popping up at other stores (Nordstrom, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s) – so I recently reached out to my friends at Nordstrom to request a sample. They happily obliged, so I’m now able to bring you this long-awaited review. (more…)

Glitterrific: Miu Miu Noir Sunnies

bloggers 03 sept miu miu Glitterrific: Miu Miu Noir Sunnies

How chic are these Miu Miu Noir sunnies? I usually gravitate to classic and understated styles, but these are just too fabulous! The red glitter ones look like something a modern day Dorothy would rock in Oz, right?

Anyway, sunglassesshop.com is running a blogger contest and giving away a pair of these babies, and I’m crossing my fingers that I get lucky. I run so many contests and giveaways to spoil you all pretty, so maybe kharma will be kind to me.

I don’t think I have the chutzpah to pull off the red glitter ones, but there is a black glitter pair that have my  name all over it. I’m also a big fan of the retro cat eye shape.

So keep your fingers crossed for me. And if I win, I’ll be sure to report back and post some pics.

Scandal-ous: Peek Into Olivia Pope’s Closet

olivia pope scandal kerry washington Scandal ous: Peek Into Olivia Popes Closet

I am obsessed with ABC’s Scandal, starring the gorgeous and uber talented Kerry Washington. If you’ve never seen the show, you need to get with the program…literally. And if you’ve seen it but didn’t get hooked, I don’t know if we can be friends. It’s just that good.

In Scandal, Kerry plays Olivia Pope, a D.C. crisis management guru/”fixer.” She’s the former White House Communications Director for the President (who is married, but just so happens to be her soul mate), but has left to start her own crisis management firm, Olivia Pope and Associates. Sounds entertaining, right? It is! Anyway, Olivia has a killer instinct and a killer wardrobe.

In this Bluefly Closet Confessions video, Kerry gives us a special look into the wardrobe of her character. Enjoy!

PS – If you’re a fellow Scandal fan, tweet me on Thursdays at 10 ET. I do an informal live blog of the episodes and would love to chat with you about the show!

Nobody Puts Dermalogica precleanse in a Corner

pc Nobody Puts Dermalogica precleanse in a Corner

I had totally forgotten about Dermalogica preclense until I was having dinner with my besties the other day and my friend, Jenn, raved about it. She told me how Dermalogica products, particularly the precleanse, were working wonders on her skin – and helping her beat adult acne breakouts.

It’s been a while since I used precleanse, but I knew I still had a bottle somewhere in my beauty arsenal. So this weekend, I did some sleuthing and found it hiding out in the back of my bathroom cabinet.

OMG…thank you, Jenn, for reminding me about this skincare gem! I’ve only been using it for 2 days now and my skin feels and looks so much better!

For those of you unfamiliar with precleanse, it’s exactly what it sounds like. You apply this blend of Olive, Apricot and Kukui Nut oils before your cleanser. It dissolves makeup, sunscreens and oil-based debris, readying them for easy removal. My skin feels so fresh and so clean clean, but not dry or stripped.

It’s so freaking amazing that I cannot fathom how it ended up in the back corner of my medicine cabinet. Nobody – including me – puts precleanse in corner! When I’m wrong, I say I’m wrong.

Buy a bottle and you’ll understand what I mean. Dermalogica precleanse deserves prime real estate in your bathroom.

The Truth About Curls

paul mitchell curls 791x1024 The Truth About Curls

If you’ve been reading this blog for a hot minute or you’ve seen a picture of me, you probably know that I have chemically straightened hair. It grows out of my head curly, but I’ve been straightening it for 25+ years – to the point where I’m embarrassed to admit that I can’t even remember what the natural texture of my hair is anymore.

So it might seem ironic that I’m posting about Paul Mitchell’s new line of products for curls. But it actually makes a lot of sense. Waves and curls require serious moisture (frizz is not fab), but in a lightweight formulation – as not to weight the hair down. My fine, relaxed (aka damaged) hair demands the same – so I’ve been incorporating two of the more universal products into my routine.

Paul Mitchell The Truth About Curls Collection 1024x902 The Truth About Curls

The Spring Loaded Detangling Shampoo is ultra-moisturizing and sulfate-free. Whenever possible, I prefer to use sulfate-free shampoos because they don’t strip. However, many sulfate-free shampoos just don’t lather up the way the way that traditional shampoos do – and it’s a bummer for a bubble-lover like me. The great thing about the Spring Loaded Detangling Shampoo is that it gives a rich lather, so it’s the best of both worlds. (more…)

Why am I telling you all this? Well, because starting October 1st, you can score a tube for free! (more…)

Always Bet On Black: Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

boscia Luminizing Black Mask 1024x1024 Always Bet On Black: Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

My skin has been in serious need of detox. My pores are perpetually clogged – it’s like my face is the IT hangout for blackheads. So when I saw the Boscia Black Luminizing Mask on QVC a few months ago (it’s no longer sold there), the demonstration was so compelling that I bought a bottle.

The mask – made with “premier-quality clay” – promises to draw out deeply lodged dirt and oil, exfoliate, shrink pores, firm skin and reduce inflammation. But does it actually deliver? You betcha! As Wesley Snipes said in Passenger 57, “Always bet on black.”

spoiled pretty boscia black mask 1 Always Bet On Black: Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

Before I apply, I like to exfoliate my skin with my Clarisonic. The instructions don’t suggest you do that, but I find that exfoliating helps the mask ‘get all up in there,’ so to speak. Next, I apply an even layer (not too much, but not too little) to my clean, dry skin. It’s important to avoid your eyebrows, hairline and lips. Also avoid your eye area by applying below orbital bone. Then you let that baby dry for 15 to 20 minutes. I’ll admit that for the first couple of minutes, it makes my eyes tear up a tiny bit (my eyes are sensitive); but after that, I’m totally fine. Once the mask is completely dry, it takes on a rubberized quality – and you remove it by peeling off from the outer edges. (more…)
